NSX
To this day, the Acura NSX remains a classically beautiful design, and one of my favorite cars of the 90's! In my opinion, it was the only reason why you didn't buy a Porsche 911, to have a super car that could be used as a daily driver. Definitely the Audi R8 of its day!

I could never get a wrench or ratchet on that 14mm bolt on the manifold bracket. I cut the bracket in half with a pneumatic saw. Then I welded a little piece of flat-stock back on there and threaded a hole so that I could take the bracket apart in the future if needed. I spent probably 6 or 7 hours total trying to remove that bolt before sawing it in half. Not to mention the stripped 10mm bolt holding a ground wire.
Please, please help with the two ground wires location on the manifold...... which is the specific point ...and are both ground wires going together, will appreciate your help..
The ground wires are on the left side behind a box that says “diagnostic” on it, and on the back side to the right of the bracket that you are going to DESPISE removing. I’d advise putting your hand behind the right side of the manifold and get as far up in there as you can, using your left hand as a guide if you can fit it in there. The ground wires should be able to be untightened with your hand once you break it lose but the bolt holding the manifold to the bracket will require you to use a swivel rachet the whole time. Get a socket as short as possible. You should be pushing the rachet DOWN to unscrew it, DONT MAKE the same mistake I did and spend 45 minutes trying to get it lose 😭 Btw, there’s two wires on each nut that you’ll be removing. Take them both off. Put the nut back onto the bolt once the manifold is removed so you have less bolts to try and remember where they go lol
*less nuts but technically you will have a lot of both to remember. Another thing you can do is press each one into a piece of cardboard and label them as where they go. Throttle body, manifold, valve cover etc. you are going to need an Allen key as well and use some sort of extra leverage because it will not break easily. Luckily they’res only two and both in the front of the manifold.
Thanks so very much for putting it all there!! Super.
Working on my 02 avalon as we speak! It’s a pain in the ass but i’m getting it done haha. Thank you for the video
Thanks! Great instructional video, helped me on a 2000 Avalon. That one bracket bolt on the back of the intake manifold was a nightmare, it was a 14mm btw.
Take 10ml bolt out of clamp to separate used a hammer handle for this, 14ml is easy to get at
Hi friend was a great video and huge job!!! Please, please help ..how can I located the correct position of the two ground wires on the intake manifold...I having trouble right now with that....I saw in your nice video....that both ground wires goes together in one point of manifold......its that right ....will appreciate your help for my 2001 avalon, thanks in advance!
I'll try this anyway. I looked through the comments and didn't see any answers to questions. The Spark plug tube seals. I watched videos and have seen the tube seals installed both ways( easy and hard as you say ) which I installed the hard way according to another video. To me the thinking is like a wheel seal, you have pressure and you don't want that pushing past the seal. The hard way should tighten the seal around the tube with pressure. So which is it ? If you can't take the time to answer , someone please answer this question. I installed Felpro seals just like the ES300 video on UA-cam. The guy with the orange gloves. So please someone let me know. Thanks.
You did a good job...thanx
Why do you take off the brakes?
...
So you took the harmonic balancer off also?
Can you get to the rear exhaust manifold from the top? I am going to need to replace the rear valve cover and also the rear exhaust manifold gasket. So I might as well do both at the same time. I can hear ticking and smell exhaust through the vents. There is very little info about how to get to the manifold though.
to much talking not enough doing
Hasn't really done this many times me thinks , I have a 2000 camry, it's simple after the first time
Regarding the exhaust manifold that had the pool of oil on it, there is a 50-50 chance I installed that exhaust manifold at the factory.
Nice work guys ✅
Dude your good professional auto tech...
What was the noise on first startup? I just replaced 2003 with a 2001 and have a very similar sound in the right side. I replaced lifters and rockers from other engine and it made no change.
Just thinking out loud. Do you think it will be easier to replace catalytic converter bank 1, when the intake plenum is off?
Goo video Y'all don't show a fucking thing your doing. What a fucking waste of time
Swapping the engine on my 2000 XTerra... This video was very helpful, thanks! I would have liked to see more info on how you got the intake manifold out and back in. I found it very difficult to remove. Also, where did you attach that chain to for lifting the engine? Was it the power steering mount and the bracket in the back?
Very good information. I have a 2005 Frontier Nismo with MT and 153K miles on it. I think my clutch is tired now and I don't think I can do it alone since I don't have the lift. The procedure is straight forward but the rusty bolts are the pain while lying underneath the truck. Thank You
just one thing the PCV valve is a check valve. if you blow in it you can get air one way, but not the other that's how you can check it properly. But you're right it's the number one reason why people blow valve cover gaskets. And it does recycle and vent crankcase pressure in gases. 👍
Good job
Great work man. You are very good with cars... I would rather say cars love you... Engines love you. Best of luck..
Whoever engineered the placement of that rear manifold bolt can go fuck themselves
P for pain in the ass with that 14 mm bolt in the back of plenum
Stay on one car we dont want to walk around your shop
This good to know whats also common is your oil bump gasket failing
This is far and away the best video for changing the valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals on the 1MZ-FE. This video was super helpful when changing the gaskets on my 99 Camry. It seemed like everyone else said, "alright, so now we're going to take off the rear valve cover/take out the tube seals" and then cut to everything being done. They skipped the hard parts where you could possibly damage the valve cover.... Awesome video, super thorough, thank you!
did that $2500 include the new motor
how hard was it to put back the front differential
T6 or t60. That looks pretty big.
I want you to fix my car.... Where are you located?
Will a 3.3 out of a Nissan Xterra fit a Nissan frontier
Can you replace my 09 kia optima lx 5 speed engine
There is no need to remove the driveshafts from the car. You can simply hang them up with some zip ties. Therefore you can save at least 2 hours of labor.
I have a 1999 Hyundai Elantra runs great drives great in heavy snow
Hey I'm trying to find the pigtails that hooks to the ignition coil I can't find them nowhere 2002 Hyundai Elantra it want crank without the to adapters just turns over
I have a 2012 Xterra 4x4. Need a new clutch soon. Do you reccomend Centerforce or OEM? I do some off roading and steep hills sometimes.
When you raised the car up, how did you clean off below the valve cover?
He probably use that same brake cleaner
Can I put a motor from 01 xterra in a o5 xterra
question,, i was told that the valve cover bolts were to be use 1 time, as the stretch, and wont clamp down the 2 nd time, is this true?
Thank a for the imfo.almost made my engine removal slot harder for myself.
Amazing. A real mechanic!!! I thought they were extinct. No joke.
Thank you for taking the time to do this. This is definitely not easy and your effort is appreciated. Hoping to do this on an engine before swapping in and your video will be very helpful.
To change the spark plugs I didn't have to remove the throttle body I did 123 an it was my first time changing the coil an spark plugs on my Avalon it was easy at first it gives you a little trouble.but its easy
I think I heard you say, couldn't have original plugs with 200,000 miles.Reason I need to do this is because of normal valve cover leak,I have 3 generations of Avalon and 2000 model was accidentally skipped on Plugs. 243,000 miles on originals with no misfires.Im scared though they might be hard to remove.Guess I will find out soon,Thanks for making vid.
I was going to buy one of this cars but after seen this video, I changed my mind. I do all my maintenance but changing the clutch on this car ....wow, and not paying so much money to replace a clutch. Someone mention below $1500! not including parts ouch.
Good job there buddy, thanks for posting. Just doing mine at the moment.
nicely done
Thanks for The video, replaced mine and didn’t put enough silicone and it leaked out all my oil! Be warned for anyone else to make sure to follow closely! Don’t make the mistake I did
