Public Schools First NC is the only statewide, nonpartisan network focused solely on public education issues. We collaborate with teachers, parents, students and communities across North Carolina to advocate for a first-rate public education system for all North Carolinians, which is every child's constitutional right.
Our goal is to inform North Carolinians so that they may advocate for best practices and a strong funding system that supports our students, educators, and public schools.

This was an excellent review of the history, and included many educational comments from experts. Recommend watching by everyone with an interest in why North Carolina ranks in the bottom % of all States in the Union for school funding.
If you collect my tax dollars to pay for the cost of a child's education, that child's parents should determine which school private or public that those funds are paid. Parents should have the authority to determine the child's best education. This rule should apply to all children. Good public schools will attract students as will good private schools. Competition creates the drive to be better.

Thank you
This is a very disturbing, but understandable trend. NC has never taken care of the educators in our school systems the way they should. I'm not sure how much longer Raleigh, or the greater Triangle and Charlotte Metro areas will stay atop these "best places to live and work" lists unless we take some dramatic steps to turn this problem around very quickly. Thank you, NC teachers, past, present and hopefully future for all you do for this State.
I agree with Mrs Kelly, and eating lunch. I see first hand when a child only have a sandwich to take them all day. They all should eat free. Mrs Beverly..primetime Director
Nice interview! This was so informative.
All I know is that our Black and brown boys as a group are not excelling.......
This guy said we don't need Charter Schools, we are doing innovation in our district public schools, then he said many Charter Schools are doing things we would never do in District Schools. Let me just stop right there.
This video is misleading when it characterizes ESA's by saying, "tax money is taken from the public education system." No, it's being used for the education a specific taxpayer wants for their child. ESA's take a percentage taxpayers funds that the state allots to support a student to a parent-controlled account. There are a number of oversights on these accounts.
free market failure here - if you are inherently anti-free market or consider the free market the reason for all ills, then you can't see any other way out than to force people to follow you - even into driving your own children to the proverbial slaughter of public school. Save your money, go somewhere else or keep them home.
grammar/spelling on slide at :33 - bravo public schools... also where are these free schools to which they are referring? When my kids attended NC public schools we were constantly barraged and berated into giving money and supplies to the school. That's not free. Perhaps it would be a more valid argument if administrators at primary schools weren't making 5 times the salary of their average teacher!
ahahaha, no accountability in private schools? Public schools in NC are absolutely terrible - it's not too hard to find the stats, they're publicly available. To put aside the incredible laughing fit for a moment - according to Mr. Ellis, the NC constitution requires that "every student [has] access to a sound, basic education" and that's why private schools fail the constitutionality test - on accountability grounds. Well, legally then it seems that even if there was only one public school in NC and every child in the state opted for private school - or for that matter... no school - then the constitution should be satisfied. Access being the operative word. In case of the private schools, parents (like me) opted to forego the failed public school system for something that works. Just a side note - we eventually left NC and the US looking for private schools that actually meet a reasonable standard of performance. We now pay more than 55% of our income to cover tuition costs and associated fees, uniforms, etc. We are voluntary exiles from our home because of school failures and ridiculous education policies that have led to nearly half of NC children failing to graduate, less than one in five of those graduating from the university.
No accountability to school boards MEANS TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, okay? facebook.com/terry.preuss/videos/10208265626778419/
