I just got back from a trip to Alaska, and I was so in love with the fireweed. It was along the roadways and the coastal bluffs. The day that we left, my granddaughter took us to Skyline Drive and I saw some of the sights that you are talking about. Thanks for the beautiful video.

Almost impossible to find metal coffee cans anymore! I have a large plastic coffee can and a small round plastic container to fit inside. Hope it works!

While sorting old papers tonight I saw a similar recipe in a 1999 newspaper as the following: 1 cup whole milk 1 cup heavy whipping cream 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp vanilla. Pinch of salt 1/2 cup chopped fruit or whole berries 1/4 cup crushed candy bars 13 ounce coffee can w/ tight fitting lid and a 39 ounce coffee can w/a tight fitting lid, duct tape, crushed ice and rock salt or ice cream salt. Pour milk and cream into a large bowl and stir. Add sugar, vanilla, and salt, to mixture and mix well. Add optional, ingredients, if using. Pour mixture into the small coffee can; fill to within 2 inches of the top. Snap on lid and seal with tape to reduce leaks. Put the small cans inside the larger can. Fill the space between the cans, alternating 1 cup ice and 2 tablespoons rocksalt. Place the lid on the large can; seal lid to prevent leaks. Tell the kids to roll the can nonstop along the sidewalk patio or other level area for about 20 minutes. Open the large can carefully to prevent spilling; rinse off the inside can before removing the tape to keep salt out of the ice cream. Makes 4 (1/2 cup) servings. Per serving: Cal 341 (62%fat) Fat 24 g (15g sat) Chol 90mg Sodium 125mg Carbs 30g Calcium 111mg Source: TX Dept Agriculture But I like how this video seems easier by simply sprinkling the rock salt on top and still works!

Just found this video and had to watch it. My mom gave me this book for Christmas over 20 years ago. Love it and use it often. The first time I made a cardboard box oven everyone was making fun of me saying that it wouldn't work. Man were they surprised when I pulled chocolate chip cookies out of it.
