Testing my 1975 Pro Reverb with stock speakers with my 1984 Gibson ES335 which has Seymour Duncan Jazz Neck and Seth Lover on Bridge (original Shaw's are fairly dull for me and stored away). This is a 4 track recording my friend and I made in 1992. Recorded on our AKAI MG614 Four track cassette recorder. We had just got it and wanted to cover various songs from the Smiths and The The. We used an ART digital reverb to add the ambiance.

This was recorded around 1992 on our amazing AKAI MG614 4 track cassette recorder. My music buddy and I went in on it together because we loved recording music and wanted better quality than the low level 4 tracks that were popular back in the late 80's. Our love for recording and The Smiths brings you this. I played the guitars with my friend on the Bass and drums.

I had bought a cheap late 70's Yamaha FG335 for $40 a while back and did a little recording test. Of course, I want to do some Smiths! Doubled arpeggios with strummed chords too. I added my ES335 for a vibrato instrumental-type vibe. Enjoy!

I thought maybe this was the concert I was at when they opened up for TMBG but at the end he mentions that they 'hope to have a tape out soon'. Well the concert I went to they did have a cassette tape and I bought it! I no longer have it but wish I did! Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for another tape or any other information about these guys.

I was the drummer/bass player on this Smiths demo... Drums: 1986 Pearl World Series with Evans Hydraulic heads, 4 mics: snare - SM-57, Rack, Floor, and kick each with a Sennheiser MD421. Chrome 5.5 x 14 snare Pearl snare with Remo pinstripe head. Bass was a 1984 Fender Precision Elite. This turned out great after a few years of learning with the 1989 MG614!

Best cassette 4 track drums out there! You guys would get views if you did 4 track tutorials for all the folks getting into cassette throwback.
Is that a real drum kit, or programmed? How did you mic it up if it's real? Sounds great.
It's real drums played by my friend. We bought this machine together for $1200! He's playing his mid 80's era Pearl Export 5 piece Kit with Ziljian cymbals. I believe it was using four mics. Close mic kick and snare. Then I think we used a mic over the two rack toms. And one for the floor tom.

I have the same bobble head. I saw it in Robert Duvall's taxicab in the Steve McQueen movie Bullitt, and bought one on Ebay. I just had to have it. It was in the original box. The box looked very old, but the dog in it looked fine. It's in the back window of my car, nodding happily.

what replacement pot did you use?
You'd be fine. Mine, for some reason, has LESS reverb than the reissues. They added the "pull/boost" knob on these in '77, which taps into the reverb circuit for more drive (when engaged). But even when off, I wonder if it is affecting the overall reverb level. What you hear in this is on 10! I played my friend's '76, which does not have that boost switch, and it is MEGA reverb. Play a reissue if you can. I played one years ago when they first came out and it was great in the reverb dept.
