It's spring 2014 in Boston, finally. The construction of the new 60 story Mellinium Tower has stopped digging and is just finishing the first layer of cement. It's all up from here. In the background is the new glass curtain wall of the old Filenes department store.

Why "Kill a nena" ? What did she ever do?!?😂
Hello, I hope you are well. I loved the video as it showed me what rural Ireland was like in the 1960s. I would like to ask you if you know what the most common jobs were in the towns, in addition to agriculture and livestock, in which people worked. I have searched for information about it, but I have not found much on the internet. Greetings.
wow.... very interesting.. thank you for sharing. Anton
Wonderful!!
Just finished reading Flight of Passage for the umpteenth time, and it never gets old. Such a great story of the kind of trip I dreamed about before the book ever was published. How does this video only have 10K views? It’s a national treasure!
This is from 1966, not 1965.
August 15-19, 1966
Thanks for posting this, Andrew. I just saw my copy of your brother's book on my shelf and it made me wonder if this great story was ever going to be seen as a film... I guess this is it! I did send Henry Saine a note of encouragement to keep his project going.
That's amazing Andy!
How great is that? Thanks so much for sharing.
At 3:08, one of the women - I think Kitty Carlisle - says "They should write a book". And a career was launched.
Ps the audio Book i am looking for is flight of Passage.
I love Orson Bean and have watched many reruns. The Buck siblings need to hunker down and write documentary of growing up with their dad and mom. Reflecting on the Catholic Church. Your dad had leg injury. His magazine life. Your mom picking up her apron to get privacy covering her head was my favorite bit.
My ex and I lived in your 10 room house. As a media student, Im asking. Okay. When are you kids going to write a screen script about a Catholic family in the 60s and the Berrigans. I see your mom passed. Wish I knew her. Growing up in a little town in a family such as yours, theres a story there needing to be told. Protesting the Vietnam war. Please. Tell. Underground Rsilroad carriage house. I worked with aunt of friend of yours. I read But daddy. Perhaps documentary. Curious.
Andrew - Flight of Passage is one of the few books I read and read again, I love it every time. I hope Kern and Rinker are well.
LOVE that book!!! But I didn't quite understand the Pass of Guadalupe Part. Couldn't they just go a little more South, and go over a much easier section?
They are my older brothers. I was about 6 during this time.
My ex and I had bought the house you once lived in. I have a media degree. My brother was a priest for six short months but I believe he ran across the Berigans in Maryland. I hope you dont mind, but as a Catholic perhaps you can add to the continuing saga of the constant revelations. But your parents were peacenicks. I think light needs to shine in that sad moment in time in light of the recent historical passage. I went to Dan Berrigans funeral in NYC. He was a poet. I just felt the need to honor someine whose name symbolized a call for peace. May their spirits rise up and inspire others to work for peace. I am a Reiki Master. A holistic. Blessings on your family.
Andrew, who are you to these men? Son/nephew? Thanks for sharing this. It was great!!!
I read flight of passage that book is the best
Betty <3
Andrew, I just came across this video, it is wonderful to see, not just for Kern's solo but the video of you and so many of your family. I remember your father well! I was an altar boy at your parents' wedding so many years ago and I remain your "oldest" Kernahan cousin .. ! Matt Hermes
Absolutely adore Rinker and Kern Buck! It was so cool to see their precious young faces after having read FLIGHT of PASSAGE two years ago. It's a GREAT READ ...on my second run through. MOONPIES and AVOCADOS...Bombs away! = ))
Wow, I'm proud to be the current caretaker of N5818E north of the border in Canada - she flies great.
Nice video hope for more, thanks!
T. Kernahan Buck = Tomasean Kernahan Buck, I believe
I thought it was number 1. Rink's books pictures gave it away.
I loved reading your brothers book, a flight over passage. I will do a book project on his book as well!
Have been working on 71-Hotel this week and she's coming back together nicely.
do you still own 71h
I just finished Rinker's book, and just loved it. Pretty great to see video of 71-Hotel and Kern and family... I'm looking forward to flying for the first time this spring!
After reading and thoroughly enjoying the book, it is a great pleasure to find and watch this video. Thanks very much for posting it.
I really enjoyed watching these videos and seeing Kern and Rinker and hearing them speak. I just love the book and can just imagine what an adventure that trip must have been for them and the whole family. Thanks for posting these videos.
I am a Pilot myself and i love this book. I was suprised to see betty white in there lol.
I read Rinker's book Flight of Passage when I was in high school. I loved it. My dad is a licensed pilot and he would occasionally take our family on flights. So I know the joy of flight. This helped me connect with the story Rinker told. And the fact it's true made it even better. There's one thing in the book that has bugged me ever since though. During the cross country flight, your brother Kern was once called "T. Kernahan Buck." Does the "T." stand for anything or is it just a nickname?
I'm sorry I missed this comment. It is in a million pieces. If you want to follow it's restoration, search 4971H on supercub dot org.
:-(
Wasn't 71 Hotel Red?

Yup, with red and white sunburst on top of the wings! "Flight of Passage " good book.

Ahhhhh I read the book so many times and watching this was so sureal... I want to meet them in there youth sooo badly :P
I laughed alot when I saw this , I knew exactly who it was the first second, the first one on the left.
@agbtube (read below) - once I get a video out, I'll let you know. If theres ever a chance I could ever email/talk with them I would talk it in the instant, just to email them haha. Anyways, please let them know I admire them extremely and are role models to me. If there curious, I have some of my gliding videos on my channel if they want to watch, thank you so much, ~ Daniel
@agbtube Hey... I'm 15, kind of addicted to aviation and admire Kern like no other... I've read.. re-read their book over and over and over... My dad has a Taylorcraft and I solo in gliders and I'm addicted to everything about it. I plan to be recreating their flight , as best as I can in a flight simulator, record the whole thing, sound effects+read from the book, but I am more then jealous of Kern and Rink. If ever are talking with them , please let them know what I'm doing, once I get a video
just finished the book last week. hope to meet up with rink some day.
Proud new owner of 71H. Driving her home to restoration tomorrow morning. Will be the same scheme minus the giant N numbers ;)
