Hiking Mt. Lafayette White Mountains | August 2019
We hiked up to Mt. Lafayette in the beginning of August 2019. We started at 8 AM and was able to park in the main parking lot thankfully and took the Falling Waters trail up to Little Haystack Mountain (4760'). Lots of clouds started to come towards us and we ended up bunkering down behind a bunch of large boulders to be protected from the wind and rain as much as possible. It cleared up a bit and we continued on, walking along the ridge towards Mt. Lincoln (5089') and eventually Mt. Lafayette (5249'). We stopped shortly in the Greenleaf Hut before making our way down Old Bridle Path. It took us just under 12 hours to complete the approx. 9.5 mile loop.

Hiking Indian Head Adirondacks | May 2019
Переглядів 3,1 тис.5 років тому
We hiked up to Indian Head which is part of the Adirondack Mountain Reserve outside of Lake Placid. There is a road you can take most of the way up but we took some other trails to get to the approach for Indian Head. On our way we followed the East Branch Ausable River with Wedge Brook Cascade Lookout, Beaver Meadow Falls, and the incredible Rainbow falls seen along the way. It took us 10 hour...

We hiked up the Hunt Trail to Baxter Peak on August 7, 2017. It was during a 3 night stay camping in Baxter State Park in Millinocket, Maine. It took us about 10 hours round trip to do the 10.4 round trip hike up and down the Hunt Trail which should be called the extreme bouldering trail! This was a tough one because of all the bouldering but obviously a really cool view up at the top. The high...

We spent most of our day at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Chris and I rented a "sand board" which is just like a sled but for the sand and we were very happy we did! Besides that, the only think you could really do there is hike up the dunes which is exhausting! A pretty neat place though no matter what you decided to do. The ausable club is nothing but snobs who like the idea of the outdoors but not being in the outdoors. You can thank them for the added 2 miles before you can actually hike. As far as the "rules" they dont apply to club members as ive seen many kids of cub members camping out with fires blazing on amr property.

    i grew up here and until about May 19, 2023 i considered it to be the only home i would find on this barren ball. i have since returned to my birthplace of Olympia, WA and j cab truly say that Ward, CO is ths most colorful, exposed, secure and WINDIEST place i have ever lived. i miss it but the truth is that it will always be there for my eventual return. pops, bros and fellow wardos; i said some harsh things as i made an exit but it wasn't a goodbye. just make aure more you think of all the good things i did for you, and think of all the bad things i didn't do.

    That was a bizarre and inaccurate characterization of Ward! Ward, though once much larger, during the height of its mining days, has never actually been a “ghost town”, though during the 1920s and during WW2, it came close. During the later Victorian era, it was a popular weekend getaway spot for Boulderites, and the town’s church bell was famously painted by Georgia O’Keefe in 1917. It has been a vibrant, albeit “unconventional” community since it gained popularity with hippies in the 1960s. Few of the buildings are actually “abandoned”, but there *are* a lot of junked cars, deliberately left to discourage attempts at gentrification. It does have more than just the general store, you just didn’t bother to find that out before posting this video. There’s a town hall/post office/library, a community center, a fire station, a playground, a radio station, and a community greenhouse. They even sponsor a visiting artist most summers. Though considered eccentric by many, the town’s population is well-educated, family-centered, close-knit, and definitely not .....ghosts. 😉 There *are* actual ghost towns in Colorado, but this isn’t one of them.

      @Elephantsworld33 4 роки тому

      Carl Menger we were up there first weekend of May and it was great. Never been there in March/April though. They may have snow still there. I do know they’re very conscious about “mud season” in the high peaks when everything is still thawing out. The road maybe 3 miles gradually uphill to the lake area and then some switch backs up to the look out. I’d def recommend doing it, its a really pretty view and you’d definitely want to check out the tiny detour for rainbow falls. If you’ve heard of AllTrails, there’s a lot of information on there as well! Hope this is helpful 👍

      John Kelley hi John, I would have to agree with getting a reservation in advance as much as you can. We were going to Baxter to hike Mt Katahdin which we were trying to get sites at Abol or Katahdin Stream campground but had no luck. We got the ones at Nesowadnehunk about a month in advance maybe. So beginning of July for the trip in beginning of August.
