CN Ashcroft Sub in N Scale - Boston Bar station house
Unfinished 3D print of Boston Bar station. Window and door apertures were sized to accept off-the-shelf Grandt Line parts. The design was eyeballed from sketchy photos off the internet so it’s probably got multiple errors. Who cares, to me it looks close enough!

Did anything more ever come of this layout? I keep going back to this video a few times a year and wondering
Yep it’s still work in progress. Too many competing priorities unfortunately, so progress has been very slow
@@sd60f Glad to hear you are still working on it! How big is the layout overall? Slow progress is much better than no layout :)
Overall dimensions about 5.5ft x 11ft. It’s a duck-under design with a well in the middle, about 2.5ft x 7ft. It’s a folded figure 8 with the canyon scenery on the outside loop and staging on the inside loop, with the staging area representing Boston Bar on one side and Jasper on the other. Hopefully that makes sense!
60 years on, CN Wet Noodle is still the best railway livery in the world
Did BC Rail ever use their C44-9WLs? I can never find footage of them working for BCOL.
theres one trailing 2nd in this video. 13:25
😊 19:17 😊 19:26 oo
The BC gov did us dirty...
Did this video once upload here 8 years ago, then reuploaded it, or something?
Amazing!! I hope to see a BC Rail unit in the wild one day!
Almost impossible sadily. Most units have been scrapped and the remaining units cannot lead because of PTC 😭
@Apoptart They can lead in Canada as Canada doesn't have PTC, some rare occasions have happened with them leading
I wasn't even born yet lol
This is fantastic footage of BC Rail back in the day. Yesterday, I went up to Squamish and saw that the line was empty as always. It’s quite a shame that frequent train service won’t be back soon.
I remember the 97 ice storm when they took one of those off the tracks with a railroad crane and ran it 2 blocks to the municipal building near Montreal and powered it up
If there are new cp rail videos, let's watch them differently.
awesome
i miss bc rail
Great video from a spot that's not easily-accessible. Particularly now.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice to see in 2001 still operating GP30s
2001 was a good year for you
This is on the BNSF Lakeside Sub, and the first train would be WB/SB, bound for Pasco, WA. I think the first vid might be taken near the east end of Marshall Canyon, getting near Cheney, WA... It's been a while since I've been there, but I think the second train is in Marshall Canyon, at the point where UP trains (which this is) come off of UP track (Spokane Sub) and onto BNSF trackage rights (Lakeside Sub) to travel the final few miles north / east into Spokane. That's probably why the train is stopped; it needed a signal to get onto BNSF track. RR location name should be Fish Lake. But again, I haven't been there since 2015 or so, and corrections are welcome.
Thanks for the info. It’s consistent with my vague memories and notes from 2001!
Sorry -- one correction to the above: the UP track is the Ayer Subdivision, not the Spokane Subdivision.
Awesome footage !! James.
Nice thumbnails (and ofc videos) on your channel! It might be worth posting some "shorts", do you think?
My childhood was the 2000’s, so I definitely remember those familiar Consists.
This stuff s great
Thanks for sharing with us! This is a nice look back, helps me remember what equipment was around at the time. Good catch of the tank cars (especially the whale bellies), Grain hoppers, and the four wheels cars on the tail! I was out close to this date, I have photos of the same pusher set. Very cool to see, thanks for shooting lots of the train, great reference source!
Thank you for sharing this magnificent video. Keep up the good work.
🎉I am wondering how many liters of fuel one of those engine holds
20,062 Liters
Great video!
Nothing awesome about this video seeing the same train several times with a fixed-position camera. Why must the same train have to be shown in its entirety several times?
You know what "Train Chases" are.. Right?
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for bringing these old video back to life.JUST OIUYTSTANDING
Wow. Fantastic video! Wow.
Love the belching exhaust at 4:50 from those two Southern Pacific locomotives
Amazing.I love this train.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing
Another great video and thanks for putting them out for us. Curious as to what camera you were using back then.
Thanks for the kind words. I was using a Sony DCR TRV315 recording on Digital 8 tape.
Great stuff man, can't thank you enough for sharing this! Those CN Canadian Cabs are a national treasure
Thanks for the kind words! I will post some more CN and CP content in a few days
Wow ! Great.
Oh boy, another blast from the past. Thanks
Again, this film just like when one goes to watch trains one stands by t the tracks and watches the cars go by and not too much looking off in the distance
Really liked this up close action as one sees a lot more detail
That was that last hoorah for the 89-TOFC cars. There were still some twin 45-foot trailers and triple 28-foot pups riding those last few 89-footers. Even some Triple-57 drawbar-coupled 89-footers in there too. I never noticed at the time that they were getting rarer and rarer. It only hit me after they were long gone. At least the FEC still runs some Triple-57's in Florida.
great train video
That’s a hella interesting sd40 in the first shot, wonder what happened to that thing
Yep - CP 5769, one of quite a few that were converted to remote operation. Canadian Trackside Guide 2000 edition states that it was fitted with Locotrol-II receiving equipment. Not sure if the window glass was removed and plating installed, or if it was just painted over. Also not sure why CP made these conversions. I understand that installing remote control receiving equipment would allow uncrewed helper operation, but why eliminate the capability of operating as a leader? BCR had remote control equipment in their Dash-8's but didn't eliminate the ability to operate in the lead. Thanks in advance if someone else can comment on that!
*Justine teoodolohoo probly got rid of thst industry* and thus engines and cars judt like we used to make the world's best fighter jets.
Great video! One of my favourite places to railfan - plus you can't beat the mixture of power back in 2000
I recommend leaving the shot on the complete train until the last wagon passes.
Good video
