Unboxing the next plane we are building. Check out the Junkers CL-1 from Seagull models and sold through Legend Hobby www.legendhobby.com/ We were wondering what to do with our Saito 72 and this is this answer. Very cool little scale airplane. If anyone is interested, I wrote a book when our old Supervisor Barron got sick and it can be found on Amazon. a.co/d/fFEbtYo

What an amazing plane! I got lucky and found one just sitting at my LHS. If you find one of these or when they come back in stock, BUY IT! Absolute joy to fly. Only mod I made was to add multiple servo connectors from ElectroDynamics so it is one connection per wing half instead of 4.
Nexa Focke-Wulf FW190A First 2 Flights

We already know I didn't love the build, but how did it fly? Well...very nice! First flight is just trimming, trying slow flight etc. I had to hold down elevator on landing, so I added 10% down elevator to flap mix between flights and that helped a ton. Second flight, starting at 5:58 is much more spirited.

Assembly of my FW-190A from Nexa. I decided to give Nexa one more chance after the Piper Tri-Pacer. Is this plane any better? Or another disappointment.

Pierre flying his Xcalibur XL for the first time. Discovered on landing attempt that it needs down elevator with full speed brake so Anthony landed, but the rest is all Pierre! Good Job! Next time the mix will be set and Pierre will do the entire flight.

Short maiden flight of the Giant Stinger. Wind was gusting over 20, so I kept it short, but I had to get the maiden in before it rains for the next couple weeks. Plane flew amazing, just some minor tweaks. Longer/better vids coming when weather gets nicer!

Ranch Sim - What is the crazy man building?
Nice video I'm with you on the quality I just bought one of their Fokker D7 the whole build was a nightmare nothing would go together right the quality just isn't there missing lots of hardware and the stick on covering what's with that how do you repair that if you have an incident
$525 for a partial kit, and you have to fix their screw ups! yikes
can you publish the STl for your leading edge sander somewhere?
here ya go www.thingiverse.com/thing:6894228/files
Thank you that was a nice thing to do
Have you found any Nexa aircraft that are worth the cost? I ask because I was planning to buy their version of the twin engine Baron 58, but now I am not so sure. Any thought? Also, thanks for the video!
Personally I won't buy any more of their planes. I got the Focke-Wulf 190 after this and it had similar issues, though not as many. I looked over the manual for the Baron 58 and it seems to have the same, cheap hardware. If you are an experienced builder and replace the hardware, add a second elevator servo etc, I think the majority of the plane is good. But I now look for stuff from Seagull because they seem to have similar but better quality stuff IMO. And it is worth the extra 50 bucks for so much less of a hassle in building. But I do have to say, as always, Nexa planes fly great once you get them together.
Beautiful plane. You touched on it a little, but I wanted to add some of the nuancefor those who might not know. This kit isn't a model of the CL 1, or even a replica of a CL 1. The prototype for this kit is a modified Bowers Flybaby. The modification looks so good and was publicized enough that nowadays it's hard to find a picture of a CL 1 on the internet that isn't based on that Flybaby.
and for those who want, Seagull also makes an ARF of the unmodified Bowers Flybaby as well.
Actually the full size aeroplane of this model is a Bowers Flybaby made up to look like a Junkers. So it has a dummy Mercedes engine and and the flat 4 clyinder engine which is the real power plant. Dont you think that having open cockpits on a scale model without pilots looks rather odd?
I've never really put pilots in my models just cause they are models. If I was building a plane for a scale competition or something I would put one in, but since everyone knows it is a model, never seemed weird to me.
nice girth!!
nice girth
It would look better if the engine was mounted inverted, that way you wouldn't have to make any ugly cuts in the side of the cowling.
Well you'd still need some holes for the muffler, needle valve, fueling etc. But I'm okay since nitros run much better sideways vs inverted and nothing wrong with seeing that beautiful Saito sticking out IMO.
great build vid 👏
Whats engine do you use?
DLE 40CC twin gasser. Flies great on it, tons of power.
@TheDornado Thanks Friend. I have a Stinger Giant in excellent condition and with your recomendations for an engine to use in it. As soon as I put the engine in and fly, I'll send you the video. Good Flights
@@spgtgrina looking forward to seeing that vid
Why exactly is the cowl such a major part to determine wether the quality of the build is good?
Good question Blaser. The cowl is a complex shape usually molded out of fiberglass. It is a difficult part to make both strong but also with complex shapes, like the cylinder heads and exhaust pipes etc. So if a company takes the time to do multiple layers of fiberglass to make a good, thick cowl with those complex shapes and a good quality paint job you can usually assume the rest of the model is done well.
what is : "shap" ................mercans seem to call the spare bedroom, the garage any spare space a 'shap' YOYOY ??
What would you call it? I dedicated a room in my basement, over 400 square feet of space, set up multiple work benches, tools, cabinets and storage and completely re-did the lighting all for building and fixing RC and other projects. Sounds like a "Workshop" to me.
Good video, can't wait to see it getting built. Keep on keeping on 🔵
You know you’ve made something really cool whenever everyone at the field gathers round to watch it fly. I only hope my al37 project garners similar attention.
Why they wouldn't offer this with flaps is beyond me.
The wing loading is so light, I really haven't missed them at all.
@@TheDornado it's not about wing loading necessarily. It's more about creating drag with the benefit of added lift.
@@Ramztothaz right, but what I'm telling you is that this plane lands at walking pace, as slow as a trainer, without flaps. So adding them would only add weight and lower your roll rate. Do you think 3D planes need flaps as well? no, because of their very low wing loading, just like this plane. I agree that many planes benefit from flaps, but this particular one, I think they made the right choice by doing full span ailerons instead.
@@TheDornado I don't doubt that the wing loading is low enough that flaps are not needed however flaps would allow you expand the flight envelope. Your roll rate would not decrease if you mixed your flaps to your ailerons. Nobody would notice an extra 4 or 5 oz for the flap servos and linkages. My 10cc Ultra Stick, 10cc Valiant and Night Timber all have a light enough wing loading that they don't need flaps....but it really helps if you end up deadstick with a tailwind....or if you are making an approach over tall trees....or you want to add a elevator to flap mix to get higher angles of attack without the wing stalling....or you have a very short runway.....etc. My Ultra Stick has regular flaps, elevator to flap mix, crow mixing and aileron to flap mixing that gives you full available roll authority. None of it is needed but full throttle straight down and then pull the power off and pull the crow to a landing is entertaining to say the least.
What a wanker

The honesty earned my subscription 👍 great video
new vids coming soon, including my first turbine!
Not to mention it looks NOTHING like a Tri Pacer. Looks like a ARF from the early 1990's. VQ does have some great flyers though.
You forgot one issue it has an electric motor fault number 1.👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Great video build series on the Stinger. I was thinking of building this plane but unfortunately Carolina Kits doesn’t seem to offer it any longer unless I’m missing something…
It is still on their website so I think they still sell it. The kits take a few months since they are done in order and each one done custom, so you have to be patient, but the best laser kit I have ever gotten. carolinacustomkits.com/shop/ols/products/giant-stinger
Do you recall the cg on this plane? Thanks
sure, my CG ended up at 110mm back from the leading edge. That's 3mm behind what the manual says(107), but it flies great for me right there. Doesn't feel touchy at all.
Do you recall the cg on this plane? Thanks
Time to start building kits
Excellent review. This is how we hold these manufacturers accountable. Won’t be buying this plane for sure!!!
The full scale civilian version wasn't much fun to fly either! Like riding a milk stool with one leg.
The FS aircraft is a great flying airplane. Matter of fact, all the short wing Pipers are great. That's why they are so popular today!!
Id check that wntire plane for enough glue in the joints the ones u can get to anyway.
Hello,i was wondering what retracts you used? Thanks
Motion has a set listed with the plane that drop right in. You have to attach the struts but they work perfect. Link www.motionrc.com/products/nexa-electronic-retract-set-with-struts-type-a-nxa6015-012
Man this is cool as hell! And also, props on the music selection because while I don't intend to do the same livery, this is indeed my muse. My own al37 is scheduled for delivery by FedEx tomorrow, 02-07-24. That will be the livery I'm going with since, as a truck driver, I pull a lot of their freight. To that end, I'm able to get up close and personal and take some pictures all around the aircraft so I can not only get the colors right but also some realistic weathering...
Hope you post a vid or some pics!
Why in the hell didn`t Motion RC buy up ESM before they went out of business ? The scale of all nexas planes are lousy . I have not seen one good review of a Nexas ARF yet . Motion should have dropped this brand long ago . The quality is poor also with cheap ass hardware to boot. I would avoid This brand like a ten cent hotdog .
I just got the nexa fw190. I'll let you know how the build goes buddy. I got a 100 Amp esc and the recommended servos for now. Christmas present to myself lol.
Nice! It flies amazing!
Years ago having built and tested many ARF, RTF, and Kit foam planes i can understand when you are talking about cheap hardware and parts which don't quite fit. Those ratchet type of control horns on plane waiting to crash. I either replaced them or used CA to glue the tab on. I used Z bends or replaced the servo connector. On mounting the wing on, several times the bolts didn't line up with the bolt or were crooked and ended up getting crossed threaded.
So how exactly did you get it custom made?
ua-cam.com/video/k5CSF8eZHPU/v-deo.html
What a hideous paint job , yuck . I`d rather have it delivered in primer . The canopy area is so far out of scale , it`s ridiculous . I agree with the poster of this video , no nexa planes for me .
I am currently building the Wendell Hostetler Third scale model of the Piper tripacer P22. It is a gasser!! 70cc twin. By the time I got all the parts for a scratch belt. My accumulated cost is $3400.00 !! So I find roughly $ 280.00 inexpensive. But I will build it because I can. The bigger planes fly a lot easier. Therefore, I am happy to hear that, You think it flies just great.
That's heck of a large plane. And yes larger planes fly better. Years ago I had a 85 inch ws Tri Pacer powered by a 45 cc no name Chinese motor. Had to admit it worked well and gave the plane realistic and decent aerobatic flight characteristics.
@@covercalls88 Thanks

What an interesting video, I can't wait for the weekly uploads from my new favorite UA-camr!
Another cool video! If you had to choose this or the Hangar 9 PT 19 which would you go for and why ?
Tough question, both are great airplanes and normally I would probably go for the PT 19 cause it is wood vs foam for the T-28, but in this case if I could only have one it would be the T-28. I really like the extra scale details, lights etc but also and more importantly the versatility in the way it flies. The envelope on this plane is just amazing. You can just cruise around and do a nice scale flight or really kick it and fly nice and sporty. And it is just so solid in the air.
@@TheDornado thanks man. Appreciate it !
Great video, thanks for sharing! Am considering swapping my Eflite 1.2m T-28 Trojan for this. What do you think? Some people say this is a 'slow' flyer, but your video suggests its really quite dynamic with power to spare. ITs a pricey model here in the UK (could get an EDF for this price...) so trying to weigh it up.
It is definitely not a 'slow' flyer but not a speed demon either. These flights were on 6S, but I have since switched to 4S. It flies a touch slower but I just like the way it flies on 4S better. It is pricey but not a bad price for an all wood plane. It should fly very similar to your T-28, just a bit less sporty (if you fly on 4S). But overall it is a fantastic everyday plane. I have a smile on my face every time I fly it.
Your slamming of NEXA quality is un called for. Their quality is immaculate!!
it's really their value per dollar that I have issue with. They use cheap hardware and have things like the wonky seat and cheap plastic fairings, yet still charge a premium price.
You've got to be kidding?
I will never buy a NEXA product again. And I will be discouraged from buying from Motion RC because of their dishonesty of NOT posting negative feedback. Losing their credibility.
Nexa makes some real garbage
I have the Sig. TClips 60 , do still have your 70 .
Sweet plane for the price PNP it's worth it, I may get one for Christmas.
I need more commentary your thinking I noticed she is pitchy iether less rate on the elevator or more expo , I see it in your turns especially your using less rudder and your bank and yanking an she will climb. BTW I own two Nexa and a VQ same Co. they fly wonderfully but like you said the quality isn't the same. I fly them on 5s packs cause it fits better. I use 4250 to 4260 size motore with kv in the 600 range. Im a new subscriber because your a balsa guy. 😅
you are correct, I added 10% expo between flights and it also needed 1 ounce of lead cause it was just a bit tail heavy.
Hi… thanks for the great unboxing video. I’m a bit confused. You said that the covering looks “beautiful” and you really like the scheme and the matte finish but you’re “not a fan of the stick on covering”. What is the problem with this covering? I’m not familiar with it. Thanks.
Overall this covering is good, but it has a couple flaws. It is much heavier and thicker than normal covering, which is not a big deal. But the two big issues are the adhesive is NOT heat activated like normal covering. As soon as you take it off the backing, the glue is crazy sticky. And unlike normal covering it is always sticky, even when cool. The adhesive also leaves a nasty residue on the wood if you ever want to recover the plane. But the biggest issue is it is not meant to shrink. Which is why they use it on planes like this with heavy graphic schemes. The design stays exactly the same with no worry of shrinking with heat. The problem is once your plane sits in the sun or in your car you get wrinkles, that you can't shrink out with a heat gun or iron, like you do with normal covering. Usually the covering shrinks back when it cools but eventually you will have permanent wrinkles or loose covering.
Ok. Thanks for your explanation. I really like the plane but now I’m having second thoughts.
@@jeffreyglasser9330 overall I think it is a good plane once you get past a few of the "cheapness" issues. And most importantly, it flies great!
Thanks. I appreciate all your advice.
What size motor, esc and prop? Approximate flying weight of the plane? Thanks.
Motor is an Aerodrive SK3 4250 410KV from HobbyKing. ESC is a 65 amp ZTW Mantis from Motion. Prop is a Master AIrscrew 14x9x3. I am flying on a 3700 MaH 6-cell which puts the plane just over 8 lbs flight ready and I set my timer to 6 minutes and have plenty left on the battery after landing.
Thank you. It seems to fly very well with that set up.
