Rural life with lots of birds
Grey Fox and Kit
It was so dark and it happened so quickly that all I could catch was 8 seconds of this interaction on our lawn at dawn.

House Wren parent attempting to coax nestling to fledge. Baby wants nothing to do with the big wide world, tasty bug, or no bug. Watch to the end...
Garter Snake
Переглядів 388Місяць тому
This snake started mock-striking at me long before I was even close. It was really irritated and didn't offer to move away. Garter Snakes are viviparous, and I think this was a female ready to give birth. I skirted wide around her and left her to her business.

Actually on top of a car, but from our view of the bridge you can't see the car

Eastern Chipmunk warning the neighbors about danger in the yard. I don't think he meant me, as it continued after I went indoors.

He never did manage to eat it, though we watched for a long time.

WE live on the hill here so are safe.. it is businesses downtown that sandbagged... water overflowing banks now xxx love x
Thanks, Merri. Hope all goes well for you. Hugs
Great capture Marianne! I kinda share his reluctance about facing some of the uncertainty out here . . . .
Thanks, Cathy. I can't believe it! The wrens just fledged a brood and are feeding them out in the bushes, but they are back on the porch, singing up a storm and fiddling around with the nest box. Never a dull moment.
@@threecollie14 Oh how wonderful! I have no idea how many broods they might hatch in a season. Wow.
Horned Lark is on my wishlist and you found a whole flock of them! So jealous. New subscriber here ✨
Thank you! Horned Larks are a common winter roadside bird here, especially when snow drives them to the edges of the pavement to forage. I guess they also nest in the fields here very early in the year, but I have never seen that myself, alas
How is this alarming
The sound is the alarm call of the Eastern Chipmunk. It is alarming to all the other chipmunks, which may be heard in the background. It is also alarming to the bird feeders, as the chipmunks empty them as fast as they can.
Nice video of American Black Ducks
Thanks, next I want to get one of them floating over the little waterfall. They seem to do it just for fun.
Quá đã👍👍🐦⬛🐦⬛🐦⬛❤❤❤
Nice capture!!!
Thanks! I watched this bird for a long time and it never did get that little catfish eaten.
Alrriiiiiiight!!!!
Thanks!
As this was taken during an Audubon Christmas Bird Count, it is fitting that there are birds in view for part of it.
he's just telling his partner the cars make and model
LOL
They're just going somewhere...its no race.
They were actually having a little brush just before this started, but I was too slow to capture it. We often see them having impromptu races out on the road. I guess people are the same everywhere. lol
Only way to top this, they need to dress like woman!
The Raven seems injured on its left side.
I think it was just the wind kicking up its feathers. It was flying well, and the pair hung around all summer, although they appear to have found someplace else to nest. Thanks
You can hear the crazy bonkers banjo music intensifying in your head
You are not wrong! Upstate NY is different, very different, from that other NY to the south of us!
What a disappointment! I though it was going to be that Amish speed drifter drifting through a left hand turn!
You seen the Amish Horse & Buggy Drifting!! FULL SEND very cool :)
I just saw it earlier today and thought it was awesome. Sparks flying off them wagon wheels was a sight . ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Nice video. Thanks for sharing & Big Like
Thank you! We were delighted to find this bird right next to a handy pull off where we often bird.
🎉😂❤😢😮😅😊😅😅😅😅😅😅9😅😅98
very cute
Thank you! 😊
love how fast he launches directly up
That bit of shoreline is a popular bathing place for the local birds. There were several finches there and the rest of them left. Guess he was in a hurry to catch up. lol
One of my favorite birds. I love their song.
I enjoy them as well. I list on eBird every day and almost every list has goldfinches on it. They are so cheerful!
Amazing skill and endurance in all ... love each pony . and that one of Peg's is so beautifully full and is he 25 years old wow. the girls did beautifully !! Ribbons all and Liz did too. I love all this. Thank you for sending and send again for the next show. i always wanted a pony when I iived in Illinois , in Lombard. Mom took me to the phony rides on Roosevelt road.. alas, my folks were too busy to have one. I am so happy for these girls to have all this fun in their lives.. and that they love animals so much. Blessings all and joy to all and BIG CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed seeing them. We had a lot of fun at the show!
Oh what fun and what a beautiful pony.. love how he trots and love his prance too .. beautiful handling and he backed up and then went forward so well .. YHIPPIE just love this ..thank you for making my day Merri xxxxxx
She is a very sweet little mare. We all like her. Thanks
GREAT JOB PEGGY love your workthere..aamzing love your pony too. Beautiful job!!! Merri in Minnesota your gam's friend and love that a fall did not stop you. WHOOO HOO GIRL !!
She is a trouper for sure!
Why do they have helmets on ponies can't reach their head and they can't fall off?
It is a rule at the fair that anyone under 18 wear a helmet when riding or leading. We don't have a problem with it really, as there are some ponies that kick mightily.
Good to know thank you
Thanks! Handsome little bird
Thank you too!
SO SWEET!!! WONDERFUL CAPTURE!!😍
Thanks, Cathy! He was so cute!
Pesky crows dive bombers
They skirmish here almost every day.
@@threecollie14 have a pair that come to the house, have been for a few years the rest call belfairs woods and golf course there home, had 3 or so golf balls taken by ravens 😂
That is pretty funny. I don't know what is up with the two that visit here. This spring they tried to go into our barns and silos in various spots, looking to nest I think. The local birds really went after them and they moved on. However, they come through every day or so.@@arsenalgunners6314
Fast and Amish
Yep. lol
I was waiting for a headshot :/
U
Wow! That's very interesting!
It was quite a show! Re the silo ladder thing...we noticed one nest on a ladder, then another, and a third. We were surprised
Very cute. Are multiples called grouses or grice?
LOl, multiple grouse are called grouse, just like deer are called deer even in groups.
@@threecollie14 omg good to know, thank you for clearing that up and thanks again for the video! :D
@@mayonnaiseeee Glad it was helpful. I am hoping to see him again this spring, although so far, no luck.
Great capture Marianne!!
Thanks, Cathy!
He looks like a young one.
I am hoping he comes back this summer, although I haven't seen him yet.
I’m in upstate NY too, and in the woods outback there is a ruffed grouse and he eats from my hand like a pet. 😂 Once in a while I’d take him for a ride on the four wheeler too, haha.
That is amazing! I was surprised at this little guy. He hung around for a couple of weeks then I didn't see him again.
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. BIg Like 12
Thanks
WOW!!!
This ppl are crazy to live that way
Not a drop of OPEC oil in those buggies.
No RuPaul either!
The inventor of nylon was suicided right after his discovery because he did not want nylon to replace hemp.
No oil huh ? There are at least nine places on those buggies that need to be lubricated and that requires grease and oil .
Sturdy cows
He WAS "truckin"! Or maybe that's a real truck I'm hearing . .😉
❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
I know adults are small, but nevy saw a baby must be teeny. I've rescued House Wrens and Winter Wrens in NJ except when they migrate thru the city, they hit the glass skyscrapers or fall to the cement, most do not survive. A friend & I rescue songbirds . A recent youtube video shows us in Newark NJ, the video is named ( Volunteers give migrating birds injured in N.J’s biggest city a second chance ) The Raptor trust made an older video when we first started named ( Window Strikes in the Business District ) of us picking up injured Warblers
Go baby go
Great capture Marianne!
Maybe they were just trying to get away from you. 😉
Anything's possible. lol
violent saxophones
I just see 2 open buggies going somewhere. No race here!
Trust me, we were behind them, and they were racing. Happens all the time. lol
I drove a horse and buggy for 20 years and they may have been racing before but they sure as horse manure aren't racing now. And we usually wouldn't do it when there was cars around!!!
They were racing. I was there. We were laughing and so were they.
@@threecollie14 to bad you didn't catch it on video!
@@boomer1049 I actually was trying, but with the car moving and a none too clean windshield I didn't get it. Our local Amish know our car, and know we are careful around stock, so they always wave and are very friendly to us. We often stop and wait if we see a new horse is acting up, so as not to spook it, and they are aware of that. On Fridays and Saturdays they are often out warming up the "Sunday" horses and some of them are straight off the race track or have never been in traffic. Gets pretty western sometimes.
So many geese
