Very interesting! Domestic rabbits that go wild (lots of examples of this around the world. Australia and The Kerguelen Islands are just two examples). And these rabbits do very well (too well in fact). But I suspect there might have been a higher mortality in the beginning, as the rabbits are getting used to their new wild diet. In other words the populations get rid of bad genetics, and the genetics more suitable for a wild diet is past on to the next generations. So perhaps in a colony setting with only wild foods available, the mortally will be higher in the beginning, and then as the rabbits get hardier it will go down? Just a thought.
