Please Note - The Portland Hotel - Now a Weatherspoons pub was built in 1899 to serve the new Market Place Railway Station (Great Central Railway). The railway line ran through the estate of the Duke of Portland, after whom the hotel was named.

Great video Pedro. You aught to go and visit Lambley Dumbles which is a very beautiful place to visit with its gorge stream and waterfalls and you can walk up towards the farm shop and find the source of the water
If you return to the dumbles again walk all the way through towards pinxton,to find a railway cutting that to the right ran under the A38, to left ran behind laburnum Ave on into the quarries

Building at the top of Edward's street that is now a nursery originally was a co op before becoming a gas fittings supplier.
Great Video.
Looking Forward To Bestwood to Papplewick (Calverton Pit Extension) Walk in 2025.
Sutton central station was at the side of sutton lawn at top of the A38 road next to the traffic lights on station road where a factory is now. The big house at the traffic lights on the corner was the station masters house. Also if you go on google maps street view you can get round the back of sutton lawn mill and see some of the back wall and old cottages. Also if you look on i think its archi uk your location of the old Hall on sutton lawn just before you went for a coffee is correct.
Mint 👌
Just subbed mate
Blackboy hotel where primark is now

My neck off woods
Thanks for this video and it brings back many memories as that area is where my childhood was (mis?)spent as I am a Kirkby lad through and through even though I no longer live there. I went to both Church St. School and then Chapel Street School before going to Jeffries School. I walked past Butlers Bros every day when at Jeffries and often went through Gladstone Terrace on the way home. At the top of The Hill I remember an off-licence and I actually have the beer hand pumps from it. It is no longer there and even difficult to see where it was now. I was in the cubs, scouts and rang the bells at St. Wilfreds and I was in the scout band and did many church parades from the Bentinck Miners welfare to the church. My mums ashes are in the graveyard with my dads funeral service being held there earlier this year. I have been to the Quarries many times down the path at the end of your video. They were good times. The word Kirkby can be broken in two - 'kirk' which is Swedish/Danish for church and 'by' which means village. I now live in Sweden and know a number of villages called Kyrkby. So... Kirkby-in-Ashfield means 'a village with a church in a clearing in an ash forest' which is exactly as it was described in the doomsday book I hear. As a late teenager I drank in both the Duke and the Wagon and still have family living there. Too many memories to recite here unfortunately...... Long Live Kirkby.
Sutton Central. was where, B R C are now,. Located at the Station Road/ A38 4 way junction.
@@1946apps thanks
Newstead Village was created for the miners after the shafts were sunk in 1874. The old village was built in 1874, and the new village houses were built in 1920. Newstead Village did not exist before the colliery was sunk The buildings on the left you though were a church were actually 2 chapels. They were built that close as they are on the Newstead Annesley boundary line. The terraced houses were for Newstead miners only, Annesley has its own terraced housing and the pits were owned by 2 different mining companies. Newstead has not had anymore than 1 train station since the 1960s. The graffiti wall is the approx location of the number 1 shaft and headstocks from Newstead colliery
