They have a set of these at my gym and I’ve always been so intimidated to use them. I’m 42 and have had lingering shoulder problems since I was a teenager that have only gotten worse over time. The only thing that’s helped is a steady routine of pulling exercises, that is until recently when I started incorporating a warm up routine of rotator cuff exercises prior to any upper body workout and THAT had made a huge difference. The positive impact of the rotator cuff exercises has me thinking that a steel mace routine would also go along away towards correcting muscle imbalances and hopefully would strengthen my shoulder joints without causing pain the way pressing exercises do.
dont go straight into this. work on strict rehab. i recommend lu xiaojun plate raises, rotator cuff work in the three planes and rear delt strengthening. then once your shoulder is ostensibly healed, test its limits SLOWLY. any damage you do at this tentative point will be very disruptive. but you'll get through it. source: injury on 160kg bench

I just got my first steel mace yesterday for Christmas. I could barely do a two handed swing I can’t even FATHOM doing a single. 😅 let’s see how long it’ll take me to progress🤞
Started doing these three years ago. And then stopped for a few months and started again. Massive decreases in stability and shoulder mobility when I stoped
Did you have any prior shoulder problems before you started doing these?
I finally realized I have a skinny bar with some 10 lb plates. Been doing these and these feel amazing on the shoulders

A gada and a macebell are slightly different, a gada involves a stick and concrete, according to the top google search result.
What's the difference?
@@bartimaeu1example: 10kg gada - all the weight is in the concrete at the end of the bamboo stick. 10kg steel mace - the weight is more distributed throughout the steel of the body and the bell. The 10kg gada will feel heavier.

Honestly that's not really great form. He can probably get away with it because he's a **cking beast but for normal people: When the mace/gada is head down behind your back your hands should touch the back of your neck or shirt. His hands are way too high and this puts excessive strain on the elbows. I'm sure he can deal with it. But maybe look at people who have taught mace for much longer like Mark Wildman or Rik Brown (Mr Maceman)
Nearly everything I know about mace I've learned from Wildman (and plenty on other subjects). That man's content is fantastic and then some. Summer Huntington has some great mace material as well.

Start with the mace closer to your body on the front and/or try keeping your head up and back in a tall posture.
