You know, it's GREAT that a quarter of HIV care in Africa is delivered by Catholic organizations. But... it's hard for that to truly count for as much as it could when you START OUT by commanding them not to use condoms. Just removing that one, absolutely RIDICULOUS rule would probably do MORE to combat HIV than the other stuff. And it would do so by PREVENTING IT rather than just treating the symptoms. So, nice as it is, that argument is something of a fail.

RIP Hitch. Such naivety about Iraq though, and he had the audacity to complain that the Church opposed the invasion. I don't think Blair was very strong here but honestly it would take longer than a two hour debate to unravel the ways in which Hitchens misrepresents religious arguments and positions. I will say we've gone even further down the road since his death, of sawing off the (Christian) branch we are sitting on, and it hasn’t been good. Religion is a bulwark against moral degeneration. As such it is a force for good, even apart from the tremendous source of inspiration for individuals to do good. Humanism lacks the transcendent power of faith.

Don't give me "true" religious, Blair. By that logic, there are no "true" religious people, or any religious belief or action is that of a "true" religious person. As for the religiosity in America, it's been the plan since November 30, 1956, when in anticipation of the auspicious year 2000, Eisenhower installed the opposite of the American Way as out National Motto. When our people refused to give our nation up to the christian church (exclusively), our religious extremists promised to destroy it.

Tony Blair goes from a politician who made a living lying to the masses, making promises that he knew he could never keep, to another career, based on religion that does the exact same thing. That being said, religion is a necessary evil, it’s required to control the ignorant masses, otherwise we would have chaos. Christianity, with a few tweaks would be one of the better religions to follow, unlike Islam which would a kin to an infection causing mind virus that needs to be eradicated by all means necessary. The fact is that there is no verifiable evidence that confirms the existence of “any” God. All believers have is faith that their God exists, unfortunately, faith in one’s belief, is evidence of nothing.

Where does religion come from??.It comes papers written by people from the past and yet no proof of god or otherwise has appeared on this earth state its existence.

Hitch performed beautifully but it broke my heart to see him in such bad health. The world was truly a better place when he was in it to help the rest of us see the truth. I miss him dearly 😢
