Creating a new NO ACTIVITY project | Android Studio
In this tutorial we create a new Android studio project from the "no activity" template. Thought this might be useful for some people since none of the tutorials I found created a no activity project.
Have a wonderful day!

    Nice video! Probably a follow up would be good to show the advantages to use the generators and the yielding. Also, a small note, from my knowledge, it is good/common practice to use "_" instead a var name (like "i") in a for loop, if the (temporary) variable is not used inside the loop.

    Why would I want to do this instead of defining square_it to be a regular (potentially a local) function? I could just write def square_it(num: float) -> float: return num_to_power(num, 2)

    • @definitelynoah
      @definitelynoah Рік тому

      Doing it using partial functions is simpler when used with larger more complicated functions. It's also less resource expensive when running the program. You could do it your way, but at that point you're just doing partial functions manually instead of it being done automatically.

    • @zachgarwood1012
      @zachgarwood1012 Рік тому

      @Alex Miller There is no problem with writing a function inside a function. But again, this is a simplified example for illustrative purposes. In a more real-world situation, the function might have many different expected arguments with lots of different permutations, so defining a new function for every combination may not be the best course of action.

    • @gaboralmasi1225
      @gaboralmasi1225 Рік тому

      @@zachgarwood1012 This is a great illustration, thanks! If I had to define like 5 of these partial functions, then indeed it is much more readable and concise if I do it inline using partial.

    What are some use cases for this?

    • @angledcoathanger
      @angledcoathanger Рік тому

      It seems like what it's essentially doing is defining default args after the function definition. So a use case would be if you declare a function somewhere that does a lot of different things, but in a certain instance you only want to use it in a limited way. You can already do this by just defining what args you're passing in each instance, but I can imagine this being useful when a function is called by an external API or a component that you don't have control over, or if you just want to make it clear how a specific instance of a function is meant to be used. It seems like a Pythonic attempt at an interface/implementation pattern like in Java, but it's kind of weird. Makes more sense to just define the default args to begin with and then overwrite them as needed. Or maybe you only have access to the correct values of certain params at certain parts of the program and this saves you passing them around. tl;dr I don't know
