Hello everyone! I am Patrick (AKA Active travels) and welcome to my UA-cam channel. Growing up in Oregon and going camping several times a year as well as going up to Washington (State) I developed a passion for the outdoors and travel. As I have gotten older I have done more and more travel. In about 2021 I started recording my travel and outdoor activities. Some quick stats about my travels: I have been to 27 States and 11 Countries. The longest hike I have done is 100 miles on the Appalachian trail and the highest mountain I have hiked to is Mt. Aix in the Cascade mountain Range.

Road Trip Update | Los Angeles Wildfires | Quartzsite, Az
In this video I gave an update on my road trip to Arizona. Talked about volunteering on the LA wildfires and explored some of the camping areas near Quartzsite, Arizona.

Exploring Forest Park | Portland, Oregon

I checked out Forest Park in Portland, Oregon. There are 80 miles of trails and I did a bunch of hiking on them. I also checked out the Pittock Mansion.

In this video I check out the Chuckanut drive area of Washington which is just south of Bellingham, Wa. I started out on the Samish Island and then I checked out the Blanchard State Forest and the Larrabee State Park.

In this video I explored the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington (state). I started out by crossing the Tacoma Narrows bridge and then going into Gig Harbor. From there I went to Kopachuck State Park and Manchester State Park. The final place that I stopped at was in the town of Manchester.

Ships in Anacortes, Washington

This video is a collections of ships in Anacortes. There a bunch of Marinas, a couple of oil refineries that receive tanker ships and a ferry terminal in the area.

On my way to Anacortes, Washington I passed by Camano Island. I have never been to the Island. I stopped at Camano Island State Park, Cama State Park and several county parks.

In this video I got to experience the first bit of winter in Washington (state). I was up in the Crystal Mountain Ski Resort and then went up to the Chinook Pass. At both Locations I did some hiking.

Do you see many snakes when you are hiking in the desert? Is there a water source at the Quartzsite campgrounds?

Even though I lived close to Forest Park and spent a lot of time there, this video made me realize how big it is and how little of it I've seen.

Where's all the people ? Seems a little on the deserted side.
This was filmed in October so it was the off season. In the summer months this place is packed. Also I try to avoid filming other people so there were more people there than it appears.

I am glad I went but Its not an area of Washington that I would normally go. This was recorded back in July and its probably going to be at least as long before I get back out there. I am planing on heading south next month ending up in Arizona. Ill be on the road for at least six weeks.
@@activetravels9172 It will be interesting to see what route you take!
From Seattle I am thinking of cutting across to Salt Lake City and then going down to Phoenix. This route is heavily weather dependent and may not do a lot of filming. On the way back Ill stop in the Quartzsite area and then probably head towards the Mojave Desert and Death Valley. After that Ill head out to the coast to Big Sur and head north to the Lost Coast. After that I don't really have a set route getting back to Washington. Though I do want to stop at the hot springs near Eugene, Oregon. So I might just take Interstate 5 after leaving the Lost Coast.
@@activetravels9172 Going back through Crescent City, Brookings, Gold Beach and Coos Bay might also be an interesting route, if you have time.
What a beautiful forest
I have a bunch of family thwre i dont know. Run or ran a large fishing outfit running up to alaska and back. My parents went for 2 weeks once. Said it was incredible with incredible weather.
I enjoyed this, I grew up there.

Seeing this video made me realize how different Montana and Washington forests are...and makes me miss the Cascades.

Funny story: one of the first times I was in Missoula, over 20 years ago, I told my mom that if I got separated I would just climb up to the "M" and wave so she would know where I was. I thought it was six feet tall and I would be easily visible! It is obviously a lot bigger.
I like this video because it covers places I've been (and even have a video of!) And yes, that trail system is extensive, so impressive that you did so much of it.
Of all the US cities that I have been to that are about the size of Missoula they have most extensive trail system I have seen. I estimated that just one of the days I walked about 8 miles.
@@activetravels9172 It is also relatively new...I mean, the trails have been here for a while, but I don't remember them being as connected as they are now.
Well, our new controlled government we now have .. We have to pay $600 for 7 months ! That will thin out the campers and make it a better place to spent the winter.

I also liked the different camera angles, the inclusion of time lapse, and the lack of narration...it made it feel much more mysterious! (Not that I don't like your narration or anything, but for this video it worked).
I like doing these videos because there much easier to edit though its not often that I get to do them. The last one was the Big Four Ice Caves video.

Vegetation looks very dry. Is this how it usually looks?
I am not to sure but it was the end of August.
Also, I understand about getting lost on a trail, or finding a trail that isn't what it is supposed to be. I try to be careful, but a couple times I head out on a trail that looks nice to start, and then I turn around and realize that a) the trail doesn't even exist and b) it has led me into difficult terrain.
It wasn't so much that I lost the trail but that fact that if I went back down the trail there was a real possibility that I could have lost my footing because of all the loose gravel and slide 100's of feet down the mountain.
@@activetravels9172 It looks like that trail maybe isn't maintained anymore? I've seen some rough trails, but that thing looks like it is barely there anymore.

Thanks. I have had a lot of issues on this trip that is why the videos have been sporadic. But the next videos are: Canyon Ferry Reservoir and then Hauser Lake/Helena National Forest. I am not sure where my video after those two are going to be but all this smoke from the fires that we have been having in Western Montana is not helping the situation.

I think I did watch the entire series! One thing I liked about these videos is they were really well-paced, I think you showed just enough from each section to give viewers an idea of what a place was like. Of course, if you really wanted to, you could probably make an hour long video just about Mosier, for example! :)
Yea! There was a lot of stuff that I didn't end up filming because it started to feel redundant. This was especially true for all the water falls and state parks between Portland and Hood River.
@@activetravels9172 Recently, I've been doing a lot of videos of me hiking on Forest Service trails around where I live---there are dozens of different trails. And for me, each one is fascinating and different, and so I am making 20-30 minute videos of each trail---but for most viewers, that is probably a bit of overkill, since these different trails are only a few miles apart and often look the same.
There are no more oysters and clams due to homes developed onto the beach of Hood Canal with septic tanks drain field emptying into the Sound.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 The fuck are you even saying? Lay off the Methamphetamines, buddy! Because you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Septic systems emptying into the sound? Ya, post a link to THAT happening? But do it AFTER you get into rehab.

I also really liked this video! Even though I am an Oregonian and visit lots of places in Oregon, I've actually only been on Highway 30 north of Sauvie Island a few times, so it is good to see those places.
I grew up in Salem and I had never been to the Lower Columbia. There are some really cool spots along the Lower Columbia!
Interesting thing about having a "clothing optional" beach on Sauvie Island...in Oregon, unless there is a specific city law against it, nudity is not illegal (as long as it isn't done to harass someone). So basically all beaches in Oregon are nude beaches, if you want them to be! But I think some it is more customary.

This has been my backyard playground for over a decade. Those territorial birds were swallows. By walking, you were scaring up bugs for them to eat. They were happy you were walking...
They might have been happy but it was not fun IMO. Do they migrate or are they there year around?

To be clear “once you get east of Portland” you have almost 100 miles of rainforest before it changes to high desert.
Right, I was mistaken about the area I have only ever driven this part of Columbia twice before going on this trip down the Columbia. Both times were many years ago and both times we/I didn't stop until at least the Dalles. My memory is a little off so I have to eat my words about that area.
