Jezo5 Spaying your cat is a really good idea, not just because your cat will no longer have a chance to add to the overpopulation problem. As you can see from the video, being in heat is a real disruption from a female cat's day-to-day life. Not only that, but if you get your cat fixed before she even has a chance to come into heat, her chances for mammary cancer later on in life has gone down exponentially. Also, it prevents your cat from ever having a chance to get pyometra, which is a serious, life-threatening uterine infection. If a person isn't financially able to get a kitten spayed or neutered, there are shelters and organizations who will do it at a discounted price. When I got my kitten, it only cost me 120 dollars for being fixed, and having all of her shots. That's not a bad deal.

But she did die..the owner said so in another comment. Lucy had to be put down in 2011 due to seizures that couldn't be controlled. Also, if your cat isn't spayed..she should be. Our local shelter puts down about 100 cats a week because the shelter is overcrowded. The pregnant ones or ones with babies get killed first. Cruel..but the way of the world. Plus, the rescues are overcrowded. I'm currently fostering 7 because there's no space for them elsewhere...so until they get adopted, they're at my house. You can help by not letting yours breed.

***** Fifteen years, 4 cities in 3 states and I've worked with 6 shelters and 2 rescues...and all of them are overpopulated. And I have 2 close vet friends in different cities in different states who have the same problem with their shelters. I'd say that's a fair representation of the population overall. Nationwide, we kill 4 MILLION shelter animals a year...and you're telling me not to advise people to fix their pets? Stop being ignorant and become educated on how serious the situation is.

It's best to get them spayed before a female cat goes into a heat cycle. Too much blood in the sex organs for the surgery. (a Vet should tell you that. They will charge you an extra arm and a leg for doing it when the cat is in a heat cycle, male cats can get neutered anytime really. But female cats before or after a heat cycle is best and safer for the animal.)

Then stop killing them. Using killing them as a justification for violating their bodies is not a good enough reason.

Ok first of all it's a SHE not a HE and she is in heat, which means if she goes outside a male cat will get a hold of her and get her pregnant!! The world has too many homeless cats already, don't need to let her out. This is not being cruel!

In fact what they need to do is GET HER FIXED so she doesn't suffer anymore!
