i like -- the flux mode make it have the "odd syncopation -- off-beat feel" ? -- great for D.J. and mixer with delay or even portamento (bending) parameter -- classic tune.

    • @-VCO-
      @-VCO- Рік тому

The "odd syncopation" is the tempo delay effect of the KP2, set to 1/16 notes: bass panned left and delay panned right (just like the original version). Flux mode is what allows the Volca Keys to play up to eight notes (in sequence) per step, if you slow it down low enough.

    • @-VCO-
      @-VCO- Рік тому

See my other reply. The sequencer bit works as a 1:4 counter/divider by setting the first step to maximum (5v) and the following 3 steps to zero, so for every four incoming pulses it will output one 5v pulse, followed by 3 "empty" 0v intervals. The output then goes through a treshold bit, to provide a clean on (5v) / off (0v) clock signal. If you look at the LEDs on the Littlebits, you'll notice that the white LED only lights up on step 1, which is when the SQ-1 jumps to another random step.

And, there's enough information here that is very helpful, that I can process. Since I have your attention, - ok if I ask one last question? ... ... How were you able to by pass the famous "auto start" issue - with Korg Volcas Bass. You know, where it automatically starts playing an internal sequence, when you send a Midi message? How didi you get around this issue? Most people just keep the first internal sequence blank and then turn the "play" button off. I noticed you didn't have to do that? Thank you again.

    • @-VCO-
      @-VCO- Рік тому

@@bigdebbie6265 Well, that's an easy one: just set the Volca's MIDI clock source to internal, under Global settings (default = auto). Or you can also insert a spare cable (or just a bare 3.5 mm plug) into Sync In - that will completely disable the sequencer. You might notice that I forgot to do that on the Keys, but I already had a blank pattern on that one. :)

This is pretty amazing! I need to reread this 10 more times to wrap my head around it. But can I ask you, how are you splitting the Midi out of SQ 1 to go into two things. Is there a Midi splitter? Also I've never played with Little Bits. Is it just a regular 1/8 " cable? Trying to figure out how to sync Korg Monologue with SQ 1. I'm running into the problem you talk about. Unfortunately, though you clearly explain it, I can't figure out how to by pass the weird sync problem. Do I need some kind of "Little Bits" divider device? Is that it? Thank you.

    • @-VCO-
      @-VCO- Рік тому

Thanks! I'm just using a passive 3.5 mm TRS splitter for the MIDI Out on the SQ-1 (not officially supported, but works fine with just two devices). The Monologue and SQ-1 use standard Korg analog sync. As I needed the SQ-1 to be 16 times slower, it required some kind of clock divider, so I built a 1:8 divider using the Littlebits (being fed by the Monologue's sync out), by using a latch bit (1:2) followed by a mini sequencer bit working as a counter (1:4). The LED bit provides visual feedback. The remaining 1:2 division (1:16 total) is achieved by configuring the Monologue's sync at 2 steps per pulse ("2-step" or 2 PPQ) and the SQ-1 at 1 pulse per step ("1-step" or 4 PPQ, see SQ-1 FAQ over at Korg's SQ-1 downloads page).

Hi, I have a very similar setup, but I have an opposite situation: I have a Volca Sample and a vintage JX-3P, which only has trigger in. Currently the JX-3P is trigger by the Sync Out from the Volca sample and I can do the division by adding rests or ties on the sequence I make on the JX3P. But I would like to have more variety in how I trigger the JX3P and this in realtime. And I was thinking of getting a Korg sq1 for that, but I'm not sure it will be able to do what I want. For example if Volca Sample is the master clock and I want to have instead 1/16 triggering the JX3P, could the SQ-1 make it 1/32 or even better 1/32 T and change them in realtime? I would love to know if you think this is possible?

    • @-VCO-
      @-VCO- Рік тому

I think most of it is doable, one way or another. You can see it as a multiple clock generator, with up to three different outputs: Sync Out (1x), Gate A and Gate B (1/1 up to 1/8 each). By playing with Gate On/Off and the number of active steps you can also generate swing, triplets and polyrhytms. There's even a trick to make the SQ-1 work as a clock doubler (2x). Maybe I should make a video about that. :)

    • @-VCO-
      @-VCO- Рік тому

The microKONTROL is just a controller, which can send MIDI messages over any assigned channel, just like almost any other controller. You can set a channel for the keyboard and each individual pad, knob and slider can also be individually assigned. The settings can then be saved to any of 12 available memory locations, called "scenes". You can program a scene for each individual instrument and just switch between them as needed (like I did on this video for the synth part and the effects). There's no sequencer or arpeggiator like on the Keystep, but there is an internal MIDI clock generator to sync connected devices. It's a 20 year old instrument, but the manual can still be downloaded from Korg and you'll find all the information there.

They can be individually programmed for many things, including MIDI notes (drums), MIDI CC, or commands for your DAW.

Great jam, loved it! May I ask how you get so many steps in your sequencer? The cymbals come like every 128 right

Using Song mode on the Volca Sample, which allows patterns to be played in a pre-programmed sequence.

@@-VCO- Thanks for your answer ! I happen to be looking for a sampler these days, would you recommend the Volca Sample? Seemed to me like a great option for little money

@@valentinsiellet2440 Note that the Volca Sample is not actually a sampler, but a sample player instead. It doesn't do any sampling by itself and the sounds must be loaded via computer. Also the new model (v2) replaced song mode with pattern chaining, while doubling the amount of sample memory and the total number of patterns has increased from 10 to 16. If that works for you, then it is indeed a great deal for the money.

@@-VCO- Love it - Motorik dawless is what I want to focus on now. Are you using the standard samples on the sample v2? I'm looking for a good snare that works well with motorik

I see you answered my question below - sampled from Neu! - I might have a go at that myself! I have to say this is my fave dawless jam on the interweb currently - I messed around a lot with Little bits before too. Do you mind me asking how you sampled it - did you separate out the kick and snare? That seems hard to achieve

Damn fun! If you have the patience to go through the programming the sample is a powerful tool. Personally I prefer it in more of a live set up and rarely even change the samples I have uploaded.

can you also recommend using the midi controller together with a pc?

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but I suppose you can use it whichever way works best for you. In this specific case, both devices can be easily connected to a computer via USB.
