Building a chicken coop | Our DIY chicken coop time-lapse
In this video, Bryce builds a chicken coop from plans we found on Etsy. He said they were easy to follow; however, he did not follow the plans to a T. He made adjustments where he wanted/needed to. Keep in mind that he does have a lot of experience building things in his profession. This video is more of a time-lapse-type video rather than a how-to. Links to the plans (coop only) and some other things we use in our coop/run are below. Thank you for watching!

Our Experience with Livestock Guarding Dogs + a Small Farm Update
Переглядів 93Рік тому
Today I'm talking about our personal experience with livestock guardian dogs and how we are trying a different method of raising/training them. I am not an expert at LGDs, and I am not a professional dog trainer. Again, this is our experience. I also give a small farm update.
Month 3 Lavender Update | Farm Goals

We are about halfway through our third month on our second attempt to grow lavender. Here's an update on our plugs and what our goal for the lavender farm is.
Preparing for (and getting) goats
Переглядів 1412 роки тому
We've been in our house almost two years, and we're still cleaning up our property (it was a HUGE mess). In this video, we clear a fence line and get some goats.
House Tour | Renovation Before and After
Переглядів 4312 роки тому
Here is a before and after of our home renovation. In August 2020, we bought a 1972 ranch house that needed a lot of work. We completely renovated the whole interior. In this video, I'll walk you through the house before and after the renovation. Exterior video coming soon!
Making a Hydrangea Bed
Переглядів 2,6 тис.2 роки тому
In this video, we make a flower bed for our hydrangeas. We bought half of them last spring and the other half this summer, but we've been putting off making a bed for them until now. I also share tips about caring for hydrangeas.
Planting lavender plugs | Starting a lavender farm
Переглядів 14 тис.2 роки тому
We are starting a lavender farm! This is our second attempt to grow lavender here in Northeast Oklahoma. In this video, we prepare our field and plant our lavender. Music by Bensound.com
How did you attach the large bottom board to the tiller? Is it bolted on?
I believe a possible reason why your lavenders could have died its because they were planted too soon , when they are so little the roots are not properly developed yet to be planted directly under direct sunlight. I would love to know how is your farm doing today , thanks for sharing your journey!!!!!
Wow! Good F’n job Bryce!
What are the two different weed blockers? Why did you do two layers?
How much was material for coop itself ?
Maybe either smooth hydrangea or panicle hydrangea varieties might suit the area better
Tremendous work 🙏👍💪♥️
The door to the nesting box should be in the front not on top Opening the lid like that scares the crap out of them because of flying predators
I saw that you nailed the top of the shingle does it have installed the same way you do on a house or different
will you try the same variety of lavender this year? or try for a different one?
Hi, can you tell me what tool you were using to cut the siding to shape once you had it screwed in place on the coop?
Wondering where you guys are located and how many acres are you dedicating to lavender?
I’m planning on doing exactly the same thing. I love the modification to your tiller!
Thanks for sharing how you started your lavender farm! My husband and I are looking into starting our own here in Southern Idaho 👏🏼 How has your field held up a year later?
Did you do it?
I planted Vera, grosso & Provence memorial day weekend in Oklahoma. That week it began to rain and rained every few days until August 1. That's right, 2 months of rain. Had 300 because the suppliers were having trouble making more. Now have 190. They've grown and filled out but haven't created anything.
Looks nice! I wouldn't put the shingles on like that but it'll do !
aluminium windows? those are some spoiled hens right there lol.
Mine are even more spoiled. We turned a small attached shed that the previous owners of the house used for stray cat shelters (???) and now our chickens have ac, power and heat. It's saved our pullets during an abysmally hot and humid year (105 with 80% humidity).
Awesome ❤
looks awesome, just clearing the space to build a coop and run. I will have to follow the directions to a tee, my first build
Good luck!
Where are you getting your plugs
뷰
What plywood and thickness did you go with on the walls and boxes. I just finished building the floor of my 8x6 and finding this video was perfect timing.
I just spent $550 on materials on a smaller coop and pen/run area. It ain't cheap to build one that's for sure.
this was awesome, you will need the gutters, and a spot for shade for the birds, it's the reason they all were in one side, maybe an umbrella for now to help them have a place to retreat to when it's hot.
Thank you! Half of the run is covered with corrugated metal. Since filming, we have covered the other half with shade cloth. Heat index has gotten up to 117° here. It's hot!!!
It is better to plant small plants of some 4/6months with good rooting system, than bigger of 12 months. Both young or 12 month, in such a hot weather as Oklahoma, specially in the summer, you need to irrigate daily, daily is daily during the summer. Some drip irrigation would have been decent, to easen the irrigation. For 100% survival, better to plant in autumn, let them pass the winter with the root system under the soil, and by the spring time they are gonna do it better…listen every time you are sweeting and you need to drink, the same happens to the plant, they need to be irrigated, moreover if they are smaller than a year. Congrats and keep the hard job
Looks really good.
Thank you!
What is the total length?
The coop is 8x6. I believe the run is 10x16.
?? No sound
I hear sound
is there sound?
Yes, there is some low background music. At the end, I talk about it a little. I'm sorry some of you can't hear. I'm going to look into why that is.
@@creekviewhomestead I'm also partially deaf so it might be me dear. I wasn't sure if it was the video or me
Nice. Where is the farm? By any chance, do you reside in Washington state?
We are in the Midwest.
Which zoone you live
We are in zone 7a.
Hi!! Glad to see you re still going on!!
Are you all just selling it at your local farmers market? Will be attempting to grow lavender in missouri this year, Fingers crossed!
We aren't growing enough to sell yet. Hopefully soon. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing. We have a problem with moles too, I’m trying milky spores this spring and fall so hopefully that’ll help. I have lavender plugs coming this spring, can’t wait! We’ll see how it goes lol 🙏😅
Any recent updates? I want to start a small lavender hobby farm in SW Missouri and videos like this help. Thanks!
No update yet. We are waiting to see if any of them survived winter. I will say I don't have a good feeling about it, but we will see!
Hi guys! I love your farm already! Keep posting please! 🥰😘
How did your lavender do? I’m part of the Colorado Lavender Association. We love to hear that people are planting.
Unfortunately, they did not make it through the winter. We had a really weird winter this past year. But we aren't giving up. Trying again!
@@creekviewhomesteadI'm here in TN so you guys had to re sow the whole farm?
Ma'am your video is wonderful ! Could you guide in the whole process of planting to harvesting for home gardens. I'm in semi arid are of Rajasthan in India. We are known os the Sun City of India.
Since we are beginners, I hesitate to share our process because we honestly don't know how it will turn out. As we learn with experience, we will share. Thank you for watching!
Good luck👍👍
Don't worry, you ll find the différence in 10 years...😅
First of all, dont buy lavender plugs in the summer, plant them in the fall, they have a much rate of succes, thats my experience in 8 years since i started the farm! If you have any questions i can offer my help! Have a beautifull day ! :)
They killed 250 plants , so it's safe to Say they NEED help...
@@chocomojo9552 i killed some, i learnd, then i became better, but when i started planting lavender there was nobody to teach me, so it was a lot of time spent in the process!
@@chocomojo9552 Lavender is a difficult plant to grow, especially in Oklahoma and especially for beginners. There's nothing wrong with failing, learning from mistakes, and trying again. We learned from our mistakes last year and are doing better!
@@CasaLavandei we don't know anyone who grows lavender either. We were warned against it because it's so difficult. But we're stubborn and are trying it anyway. 😆
@@creekviewhomestead Dont worry, you Will do IT better next Time, thats why gardening is fun! If you need any Information about growing lavender Feel Free to ask, i Will gladly help! 😄
Just found you and now following! Please keep the videos coming. I've recently gotten some lavender and love to see others journey.
Thank you for following. We plan on making a lot more videos!
I love all of these dreams! Keep going for them! You and Bryce can do anything you set your mind to! And I love the you pick idea! Have you seen the one in Mustang? So nice!! I’d love to have a flower farm!
I haven't seen that one. We'll have to check it out. Thank you for the encouragement!
@@creekviewhomestead I think she has an instagram and I know that she did a video a year or 2 ago with Linda Vater. She is from Oklahoma and has an awesome channel for gardening.
@@OurBarndoFarmhouse do you know what their farm is called. I want to look it up!
@@creekviewhomestead it’s Simple Acre Farm, they are an adorable family
@@OurBarndoFarmhouse thank you! I found them!
You house is beautiful Kari! You guys worked your tails off! ❤️
Thank you 😊
Those built ins are perfect 😍
Thank you! Bryce built them.
Are these rooted? You may need to baby them by potting them up first, then put in the field. Check to see if they have roots. Some nurseries sell them for the next step to be establishing roots.
Yes, they are rooted. This is actually our second attempt at growing lavender. We tried potting them first last year and they all died. All 200 of them. It's going better this year. We're trying until we get it right.
@@creekviewhomestead I hear ya! We bought some plants at the end of last season on clearance. We discovered there were 3 plants in the pots so we separated them & planted. They came back beautifully in the spring, but since then are struggling. Trying to figure out whether to water or wait with the lack of rain has been the question. The ones planted around the house, no special attention have been amazing now going on three years.
@@mimi27513 Same here! We have one in the flower bed in front of our house that we planted last spring (bought from Lowe's), and it's huge! I hardly ever water it. Crazy how that happens!
Impressed with your ingenuity and your determination! We started a small lavender farm this year too. Good luck to you!
Hey any update to how it's going ?
The LR built ins really make it look fancy!
Thanks! It really brings everything together, I think.
