The Pioneer — Clawhammer Banjo (original tune)
An original clawhammer banjo tune I wrote, likely to show up on an album of songs I'm working on at the moment. For the banjo nerds, it's in the key of D, double-C tuning. :) #banjo #clawhammerbanjo #originalsong #oldtimemusic

Someone on Propellerhead's UA-cam Channel asked a question: Can you use Players in Reason 9 like the Scales and Chords Player on Neptune to create Imogen Heap style chords on a vocal? The answer is YES! But there's a little trick to doing it that I'm demonstrating here.

    I'm new to this and late to the party, but if i get that right, can we further route that to an instrument and actually play it with our voice? now THAT would be a game changer!

    • @RyanHarlin
      @RyanHarlin Рік тому

      You can do that, though the results aren't quite as precise as you might want. The newer BV-X vocoder also supports this function and does so in a more reliable or predictable way in my experience.

  • @MNYeti
    @MNYeti Рік тому

    I know I am wayyyyy late to this party, but can this be done with live vocal input while monitoring instead of being applied to a pre-recorded vocal? I'd like to be able to be singing live and hit a pedal to trigger harmonies that automatically fit with the song in real time. I figured there had to be a way to do this with the players in Reason. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks for this vid @RyanHarlin, this is the closest I have been able to get.

  • @jetsethome

    ahhhh brilliant. Do you need your own banjo? Maybe Ill do what scares me most and learn to sing.

    • @RyanHarlin
      @RyanHarlin Рік тому

      Haha! Yeah you would need a banjo for this particular class but there are vocal classes there too. One of them is called "delivering the song" and is about working on tone and conveying the intent behind the song's meaning through singing it. That one is taught by Rachel Price (not from Lake Street Dive, different lady) and people say she's great. The other vocal class is a gospel singing class, meaning that it focuses on many of the gospel songs in old time music. Back then people used to gather for big singing events and they'd sing these sacred songs that they'd split up into different parts. So even though today most people singing them do it from a secular frame of mind, the song book still comes from the old repertoire. That class would be more of a group pseudo-choir singalong. Then in the afternoon there's electives on all manner of things. Oh and morning hikes in the Marin headlands... you know, if you're into that kinda thing. ;)

    What do you mean, "I created a little lane here?" I see the square waves. But, I'm not understanding what it has to do with what you are doing with the Chords player! Other than that concern, it was a great video!

    • @RyanHarlin
      @RyanHarlin Рік тому

      Oh that's automation. I just recorded myself turning on and off the Color switch on Scales and Chords for a different chord flavor at certain times. On/Off switch automation only has two values... it's on or off. So the automation looks lke a square wave it's just showing you that when the line is up the Color switch is activated and when it's down the Color switch is deactivated.
