A great design. A gargantuan project! It will look great behind your van. Thanks.
The Holden: What American car is it possibly comparable to, if at all?
GM , Holden was originally a General motors assembly plant in Australia. In 1948 They started producing their own cars , beginning with the FX and then the FJ. They started with a 138 6 cylinder, known as the grey motor. This was most likely a Chev copy, was bullet proof , tough as. In 1964 they changed to the red motor, starting with 149, in the EH. In later years the range varied to 161, 179 , 186 , 202 and also a 138 and 173 in the LC and LJ Torana models. The first V8 models came about in 68 and were Chevy , 307 and 350. We produce our first V8 about 1970 , with the 253 and the 308 , which is what I have in my van. My van is a WB produced in 1980, this shape began in 1972 HQ model. The WB is my second favorite Holden . My favorite is the LC and LJ Torana's. Torana is an indegenous word meaning to fly, and fly they did , and absolute fun machine. Ford and Chrysler also made cars in Australia, Ford falcon and Chrysler valiant. Australia produced a lot of exceptional and unique cars, and the testing ground was Bathurst. A 4 mile public road circut, that wet up over a mountain ( Mount Panorama ) and had a mile long straight. Started with a 500 mile race , then became 1000 kilometers. Stay tuned and I will find a video of a decent car show with a range of Australian cars and also some Bathurst footage. There is nothing like Bathurst anywhere in the world and I have attended at least a dozen times.

Does a good job, you'd have have to go through bin to find the small 9"
Putting them back together is a bigger job then most people know and I just about got mine back with out missing parts but still have a instrument light issue and thinking it might be the light switch itself maybe. Might have to buy a new one so to eliminate that side
How did you go getting pitman arm off which is a nightmare
So long ago that I dont remember, however there is some damage to the box just above the arm ,so it looks like it was a strugle
Hope someone can help you with a cap replacement Bruce. I had a issue with my p/s also and went back to a manual box and I put a kit throw it so it back to there it was when a brought the Hq and does bring back memories of wrestling the car around 😅
I did manage to fix the problem and made another video. My biggest issue at the moment is searching through boxes to find parts, I pulled it apart like 4 years ago. And every part needs something done to it before it can be re installed.
first mate
Reminds Me of a "Mullins Red Cap"
@MarilynBell-g8v Wife wants me to paint it red with black spots, ladybug. Not going to happen.
Beautiful . I Love it !!
Very Nice... Great Project
You've put a lot of time and effort into it, probably more than you imagined when you started, I guess we all want to see it finished but if you need a break from it we will just have to wait
I'd like to see it finished too, but I need to attend to other things.
The form of the body is almost all compound curves. That’s a mind torquer. Obviously, you love a challenge.
How about a chrome rack on top?
Yea might be useful for a gas bottle
Coming on well mate alot of work but it will be a one off when done keep at it 👍👍🇬🇧
I ask you , can you re think it ? I do believe you have a great idea and would look great being pulled by a buggy or a trike . My thought was go the pop tent rout by reinforcing the sides to be able to accommodate 2 electric pistons and extend the deck lid 3/4 of the whole build with a lip seal to keep the weather out . As you have the lid completely open , you could have a 3 sided weather proof canvas tent pop out .
Great Idea, but sounds like a lot of expense, and not really suit the purpose we need it for. When the two boys and I go camping / traveling, we already have our tents, airbeds, fire equiptment etc. The issue is being able to fit them in the bug with us. To be honest this is already way more work than I anticipated, I am just about over it and have other jobs that urgently need attention. My WB panel van, will be getting an attachable tent and set up as an overnight camper, for the wife and I. Thats just one of the jobs in the que.
For sure .. Was just throwing ideas for you . Have a Great New Year and God Bless Yall .
Great idea. It makes me feel a little stupid doing it the other way all these years. I'm going to try this on a forklift today!
I had been doing it the hard way for 50+ years, then one day I just figured it out. So simple , I dont know why it took me 50 years to get it
A bit of a conundrum about the crease, maybe end the crease before the bonnet
Yea came to that conclusion also
Wtf
This trailer is an ambitious project. A worthy project.
yea way more involved than I thought it would be
Cool! I'd think it would be a little better the other way with the hood front facing backwards and the engine lid out of the airflow but that's just an idea. keep it up.
Compound curves galore…A real brain torquer…
I’ve just replaced the bush in my 253. It seems the roll pin for the cam sprocket needs a lot of force. How did you go getting it in?
Yes I was also concerned about how tight the pin was in the fitted bush. It appears that the bush compresses when its fitted. Was also concerned about hitting the pin so hard , because its hardened and brittle. It didnt appear to put any extra strain on turning the engine. Have yet to start it, been waiting on finances for other parts. I did use a lot of thick oil on the pin. Have all the parts now to fire it up, but everything that attaches, requires cleaning and painting , also need to re connect all the wiring , so instruments are working for the start up. Should be happening this week, so stay tuned , I will definately make a video of the start up.
Symmetry may exist in man-made forms…But humans are not perfectly symmetrical. Women subconsciously look for symmetry in mates. Maybe that’s why I’m not having any luck…Ha-ha! No worries.
A nice form for a trailer.
Making headway…Looking good mate. Thanks.
👍
Nice one Bruce. My dad always used to strip things down for things. I think I will try my hand at any small electrical items going out the door like a Hoover we need to bin. I’ll tell hubby I’m doing a “Bruce” 😀 The plate rack thingy with the wheels on I would take the wheels off they are very useful. We have some long thin cupboards in the kitchen, hard to see what tins you have, so bought this plastic box on wheels to pull things out easily. I will show you what it’s like, maybe you could make something for the Mrs. I’m sure she will be very happy. Happy New Year to you and yours Bruce, God bless and stay safe.
Uterus.
Reminds me of cutting a spanner in half to do the timing..use to use the oil filter in 6cyl as I thought it had stronger spring? I did snap the cam once not putting the oil pump in correctly, that sux.Hi
Did some chasing of no spark and replaced the distributor with my mates one only to find I had a ignition switch issue which was the last part removed.Just for your info there doesn’t seem to be any rotor buttons for Bosch Dissy any more unless you have anymore info of there to get as repco said no longer available
Mine has a pertronix. rotor button is part of the pertronix . It did fail after about 15 years but was easily and cheaply replaced. The stupid part was that it was failing sporadically and I put the new one in the glove box and went on a 3000 klm trip. It finally gave up at midnight in the pissing down rain in the forrest north east of Tenterfield, mid winter. That was fun , under the bonnet with a torch and a rain coat.
I recently bought an electronic torque wrench and the best thing is you don’t need to worry about backing off the tension before putting it away and you don’t need to always change the torque because it will display where you are at as you put on the pressure. Selecting from nm to ft-lbs etc is a simple press of a button. Best thing I’ve bought in a while. Other wrench failed with the adjuster at the bottom not winding in properly, friggin last time I buy a kinchrome wrench.
hi there, just had the same problem. you re video didn't give me the solution but helped me, thanks
The real solution is to buy a new rubber bushing
Well engineered mate.
thank you
Wow!
It is interesting. Sorting it out to work takes time. You are a problem solver. Thanks.
Have a new year mate😀👌🏼
A creative approach to trailer building…A true noodle torques.Great job.
The rear hinges look like they work ok, the front probably needs the bonnet on to make sure it lines up. You should remove the lights to better see how it's going to look
Bonnet will have to be modified to suit the body. Yea keen to take the lights off now, however its still currently tacked to the frame, not sure if I should move it just yet.
Dishwashing liquid s'posed to be good for your hands
Yes not sure if it was the dish liquid or the hot water
Put an engine in it with another drive shaft to the towing beetle. Now that would be a project.
Wtf is this??
great stuff Bruce, I need to make the pinon nut tool soon ;) Just pulled apart the type 3 box for the beetle.
Thanks for watching, I follow your channel too. Currently building a beetle trailer. ua-cam.com/video/G_Q983ci8z0/v-deo.htmlsi=DN0pbLagHQnRb3l6
Looks good…
I guess it doesn't matter how you do it as long as it looks the same as the other side when you're done
Only if your a hammerhead shark.
@@andyroo3022 😅🤣😂
Hindsight is 20/20…
It’s coming together nicely. The trailer will be seamless when you complete it. Good vision in design concept. Question: What. Is the car situated behind your trailer build? Thanks for sharing, man down under…
Thanks for that, The vehicle behind is a Holden WB panel van, ( Australian made ) . It was my work horse and daily driver for 20+ years. Doing a full resto on it, plenty of vids about it on my channel.
Good shit Bruce, that will get some looks when it gets on the road.
Junk
I wouldnt have cut it up if it wasnt. Re purposing this junk to fulfil a need.
You are a sculptor.
Thank you
Is the control same on the Falcon or is it special Fairlane?
Some , high end falcons , but mostly fairlane.
