Can AI and tech really replace networking? Adventures In Networking EP08.
Once you realise that meeting in person is no longer a pre-requisite to doing business with people, the opportunities for national and global networking are endless and simply not accessible via in-person networking. Technology can open the doors to so many networking opportunities - but can AI and tech really replace networking?
In this episode, James and Kelly will discuss the benefits of using technology with networking but also how there is a limit to how far this can take you. Once the connection is made, tech is not much use. We already have an example of the limitations of tech to connect: dating apps. They might get you closer to a good match using strong algorithmic principles. But it’s only EVER an ice-breaker - the relationship part is down to the two individuals. And the same is true for networking.

    A post or a like is only the first part of the sales funnel... Getting attention. Once that happens, as Daniel says, it's about being proactive and ask for some better connection.

    That was great! My biggest takeaway was the little hand washing ritual. I've found myself being aware that I do this. Hadn't really been conscious of any reason why but Lisa enabled me to become aware of why something like this helps your mid move and settle into different activities rather than rushing from one to another. Obviously lots of other great points in the discussion too. Really enjoyed it. Thank you 😊

    Happy Birthday, James! 🥳🎁🎈 I think that, done wisely, online can offer the best of both worlds. For example, the platform (e.g. ONLE) provides the online experience and then the attendees have the responsibility to arrange face to face side of things (such as 1-2-1s) themselves.

    There are lots of valuable tips here. I particularly liked the recurring point that we can be the most qualified, most experienced people imaginable, but that doesn’t mean that we know everything about everyone.

      Thank you Richard. It is bizarre when you analyse the fact that at networking, people make a judgement about someone's usefulness based on their name and job title! So narrow minded!

    Such a good point about the trust building in networking. We are all so used to being sold to all of the time that we go into every conversation expecting that, and not learning more about each other first

    Great job guys. And "seeing the same people is not only a good thing but it could actually be part of the point. In other words, if you were to break down your networking into two main groups: people you don't know and people you do know. A lot of people spend a lot of time in the former category but actually they should be spending more of it in the latter. Personally I think the problem is they're not really sure what to do with those folks that they do know and therefore almost automatically gravitate towards the people that they don't. But when you start having a conversation around "business meetings" like we talk about during our ONLE education, and the concept that myself and a friend of mine came up with called warm market prospecting. Suddenly you have yourself a much different picture of your overall networking game. Yes you want to be networking with people that you don't know initially, but that's a means to an end to get to the group that you DO.

    • @jameswest1839
      @jameswest1839 9 місяців тому

      GREAT points Brian! You're right, I think networkers are naturally drawn to the new. Firstly, because it's human nature and secondly, because of the perception that a new person may equate to a sale. And as we've discussed before, this is the wrong approach. Trying to speak to people at volume to sell is prospecting. Networking is about building mutually beneficial relationships to help find ideal clients. And these only develop over time by speaking to people multiple times. Great observation!

    "If you're an introvert get some help" 😅 I don't think introversion is a thing to be cured. Imagine the reverse, "If you're someone who needs to broadcast their face to other people during a call, like extroverts for example, get some help."

    I really agree with a lot of what you both point out when it comes to online/in-person. I think we go back to the "good old days" from a nostalgic point of view. However, something that many businesses don't think about or consider is the change in economic conditions, as well as purchasing psychology that has changed over convid but also as social media and the world become more and more interconnected ALL of the time. Great show as always friends!

    Love this point about a minimum baseline outcome! Engagement as an absolute first step at a minimum. And then as far as I'm concerned it would go up in the following (ascending) way: 1 to 1 to Legit Discovery call / Referral generating call to Paying Client. And if that progression isn't a plausible sequence of events on each and every post...then I don't know what we're doing. Great job guys. Really appreciate it.

  • @MyClientBuilder

    James I love this and do the EXACT SAME THING! And you're exactly right...it seems time consuming (and might actually be a little bit), but if we think of social media as a prelude to engagement, and engagement as a prelude to having a serious discussion with a potential client or referral partner, then in my mind, why wouldn't we want to get that ball rolling with EVERYONE who liked, shared or commented? Great point and really appreciate it.
