Prisoner Cell Block H: The Musical part 1. Recorded live at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre in 1996. Recorded on an old Dictaphone so the sound isn't great but its the only recording that I know of the whole show that exists.(Unfortunately the musical was never released on video/dvd) Starring Maggie Kirkpatrick, Lily Savage, Linda Nolan and Bella Emberg. Part 1 features the opening song The Wild...

There dead
It's 'They're' dead. Neither are dead, I believe Patsy is 94 now.
I am watching all episodes now on MY5 just finished series 3
Loved Prisoner Cell Block H way back in 1980. I was 13.
Fiona Spence attractive female the make up people done a job.
Fantastic show good to see it back on what's tv.
I always enjoy Australian television. I am always very pleased with an Australian import.
I loved prisoner and i was so upset when Bea got shipped to barnshurst and it cut me to the bone when Lizzie called out to Bea and Bea couldn't even say goodbye to her that was so heartbreaking val you will always be our top dog even though these shows are no longer on TV now but I want to thank you for bringing bea to life for all of your fans you are a amazing and beautiful lady and to Carol burns may she rest in peace she done such a amazing job playing Frankie Doyle I miss all of the ones who are now gone including our Lizzie birdsworth thank you all for this amazing show 😊
We Irish loved prisoner cell block H
Fiona spence very good attress
Brilliant drama. R.I.P Carol burns you was a great attress ❤
What a patronising arse Eamon Holmes was being! Never seen any sets like it ? Remember 'Crossroads', Eamon! _THOSE_ were gimcrack, wobbly sets!
What we tend to forget is by the time we saw Prisoner (in most ITV regions) it was already 10 years old, so looked dated in comparison.
@@simey1 I wasn't commenting on any 'dated' aspect of the footage, though. My gripe is with the presenters patronising rudeness. Very ill-mannered.😕
more like a radio show total crap
Ask an Australian about Prisoner Cell Blick H and they haven't a clue what you're on about.
I loved watching prisoner cell block h in the early 90s on Central tv it was classic stuff watching in cold English winter nights Vals point was right about uk viewers to a point
I can feel a meeeemo coming on.
I saw this both in London and Brighton, one of the best musicals I've seen :)
Thanks whoever put this up. I wish they could have made an official video of the musical. I've always thought stage plays should be filmed whether it's for DVD, streaming or just for archival purposes. What a waste that so many performers have done their best work onstage and it was never recorded for posterity. That's madness! But thanks for posting this up it's great fun!
You're welcome. Due to copyright issues, Grundy television (who owned the rights to Prisoner) wouldn't give permission for the musical to be released on video/dvd.
Hilda Meg and the governor all together. Fine actress that played amazing characters.
Rita reaction when bongo is shot reminds me of a scene from a show vampire diaries. ua-cam.com/video/xXWb3lwIHvg/v-deo.html
Why was this cut from the DVD release? There was nothing wrong with the footage. They added the scene where Rodney Adams beats up Spider Simpson on the dvd and the footage was of poorer quality. That is why it was cut from TV after the initial screening.
It was cut because it was already cut on the inferior 'master copies' used for the dvd release, incidentally the Spider Simpson bashing was also cut from the master tapes used, not because of poor quality but for violence. FYI, the company responsible for the DVD release used master tapes returned to them from ITV, Channel 5, Channel 10 and TV4 in Sweden, some had tape damage and some had scenes already cut or trimmed. Unfortunately these inferior tapes resulted in many more edits in the dvd release than just the Spider bashing, Bongo shooting and the Ros terrorist escape. My version of the Spider bashing recorded from ITV is far superior to the version which was replaced for the dvd.
@@simey1 do you remember if this scene was shown uncut on channel 5?
@JC Hi, yes I believe it was shown uncut on 5.
They should have left everything uncut on the DVDs. It's an old show, of course we know the master tapes are going to be a little damaged.
this was very good
I love that Fiona is just natural and being herself unlike Val and Carol putting on posh accents and looking down their noses at Australian soaps.
eamon hates the show you can tell lol
Need to update the title - it's Dolly (not Doreen) Burns LOL ;)
You can tell your friend Dolly that I do not respond to scare tactics!!! 😅
I was 10 in 79, the first season. All the kids in my school were enthralled by prisoner.
Such good actresses. It always amazes me to see Carol as herself compared to frankie .
Everyone moaning about Meg's dress and Eamonn's questions, and I'm just sitting here amazed that Hilda Ogden managed to stay quiet through the whole thing! (Love Jean Alexander).
Oh god, wouldn't have realized that if you hadn't said. Hilda Ogden, Meg and Davo on the same sofa! Hilda's probably keeping quiet cos she knows their show is a million times better than hers!!
Episode number? Can you add it to the title or description. Thanks
Episode 667
What an awful interviewer...... And what a shit question to ask? I'm surprised Val didn't leap across and strangle her....lol
Geoff’s wink is too gorgeous!!
The presenter was wrong
About what?
Saw this in Birmingham with two late friends. We all had, a great night I think Linda Nolan was the governor.
She was indeed! 🙂
Saw this in London, did not realise it was so long ago now, depressing! However it was hilarious and a damn good night. Lived in london all my life, 25 minutes walk from theatre land and this is 1 of only 2 musicals I have ever been to and it was fantastic
Me too, I saw this 17 times and also Taboo the Boy George musical. Otherwise I'm not really a musical person. 😃
Always come across the val is a little arrogant with fame.
Bob is a legend.!👍
What a horrible interviewer
Interesting Fiona says that the UK has changed and the first example she mentions is "the Common Market"...
By the time of these interviews, Fiona had a much higher profile in the UK, because Home and Away was new and causing a sensation. Val and Carol were virtually unknown outside of Cell Block H
Thanx Debbie Downer.
Loved Prisoner Cell Block H
Blimey ,can’t believe Lorraine slating soaps when they both come from one, what an absolute tit
She didn't slate the soaps, she asked if there was any quality television in Australia as the soaps we were getting back then were cheaply made and low budget, including Prisoner
I had to check that I didn’t dream this and I did actually go and see this and loved it ( the 90’s were a bit of a daze )
What year was this
90 or 91 i believe
Wow! You would never guess Carol was australian! She sounds so poshe and british nothing like Frankie Doyle!! I know she had elecution lessons at school
People always mention the flimsy sets in Prisoner but the sets weren't flimsy! As Erica Davidson points out (2:43 onwards) the actual TV studios building was used for filming meaning the corridors were real corridors and the rooms were real rooms. No wooden walls. The cell doors do look a bit flimsy considering it's meant to be a prison, but the set never wobbles the way people say it did! Fawlty Towers had the wobbly sets, not Prisoner!
As much as I love Prisoner, the sets did occasionally wobble. You mention the walls being the real walls of the channel 10 studio which is true for the main walls however the cell walls/rec room/governor's office etc were a set so would wobble if someone was thrown against them or when a door was slammed but this was no different to any soap of the same period. There are plenty of videos on UA-cam that show how the set did occasionally wobble but it's part of the charm of the show for me.
@@simey1 I’m 99% sure the walls of the corridors are all flats too... whenever anyone is slammed against them there is a suspiciously hollow sounding thud - not at all like real brick. I think Patsy is exaggerating a bit there. As far as I can tell, the only *real* walls featured are the ones on the exterior of the Channel Ten studio and the ones on the stairwell up to solitary (which was a real staircase in the studio). The rest is all set. That being said - not nearly as bad as many people make out! Although the “exterior” backdrop for Driscoll House was diabolical! 😆
@@LeoVKMusic Yes absolutely, I've seen the set tour with Maggie K cheers
WRONG. YOU ABSOLUTE MORON
@@simey1 it wouldn't be Prisoner Cell Block H without it
It's funny that Eammon remarks on the fashion styles as "yonks ago" in this interview shot only 3 years after Prisoner Ended (it ended in 1986, so that must be around 1989)... Most people today wouldn't look at something from 2013 or so and see it as visibly "dated" but that's what it was like in the 70s, 80s and 90s (not to mention the 50s and 60s!!!). Some people seem to think today's world's moving faster... but in a way it's slowed down massively!! Surely I'm not the only person who thinks this ...?!?
It's probably more like 10 years as the episodes they were watching in 1989 were 1979 episodes of Prisoner
@@simey1 I should have mentioned Wentworth in that answer because series 1 is already 7 years old and it doesn't look the slightest bit dated to my eyes... maybe I'm just really old now. I don't know... I can't tell... Seems to me fashion has really slowed down
@@gledwood9108 Well I'm not sure about that but in regards to Prisoner, the first year 1979 looks very dated compared to later episodes of the show, the flared collars and flared trousers etc. 1980-86 episodes manage to avoid looking too dated on comparison
@@simey1 I was watching episode 120 or so and some of the fashions really brought back memories of my 1970s childhood. I'm guessing episode 120 would have been screened around 1980 so I'm not surprised there.... I also watched the last 2 episodes to see how the Freak got her comeuppance and you're absolutely right. What looked most dated there was the mid-80s hairdos! Even Meg Morris had a feather cut and highlights! What makes it look the most old-fashioned to me, apart from the square picture, is the old style video picture. The street lights and traffic lights when Rita Connors escapes Wentworth and drives through the city have psychedelic trails after them on my TV at least.... this is due to the old style video cameras that got "dazzled" by anything too bright. It gives the picture an "old-fashioned video" look.....
What classy ladies they are! Most of the people on that show go to the reunions and talk with good memories of the show. Really it was so wonderful to find it on UA-cam. the whole show, every season, AMAZING. He talks about the sets, yes I heard they were a bit weak, but I never noticed. It fulfilled the job. The laundry room, I felt like I worked in there all those years really. AMAZING shows and really made me notice Australia more :) Australia and America have always been very good allies. Britain as well :) AND Canada and New Zealand :)
Unfortunately the 1st and 2nd years of Prisoner episodes have now been removed from youtube.
They where some ugly Sheila’s in the block. That’s for sure.
Eamon Holmes is being a bit of a d*ck asking are they embarrassed, wtf? He should be embarrassed with that hair cut.
