Hi! I'm actually using my husband's phone now, so different name ... but I have been spending time whenever I can trying to find a study Bible in a translation without the God-awful "brothers and sisters" replacing "brothers." I purchased a super cheap NIV somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 or so years ago (I think I paid $4.99 or $5.99 for it at the time) and I wanted to replace it with a nice premium copy, but horror of horrors, there is was ..."brothers and sisters." I started researching. It appears that the majority of Bibles have gone this sad route. I stumbled across the BSB in my recent searches, and this video of yours tonight. Do you still like this Bible? It looks like it's maybe had a second printing and some new leather colors since you did this video (yes, I hanker for premium leather), so do you still like this Bible and is there anything I should know that was unknown to you in this video? Thank you in advance 🙂

The Berean Study Bible updated to the name Berean Standard Bible, because the "Study" was throwing people off. If you purchase one all you get is a translation with a few footnotes for translation notations but no study notes like an old NIV Study Bible. If you want something close to an NIV84 that has traditional pronouns, the only translation I know of that fits that and has a study Bible is an EHV Lutheran Study Bible, available at NPH.net. The Lutheran organization that puts it out is conservative, and won't have super off notes. An eBay purchase of either an HCSB Study Bible or NIV Study Bible 1984 might run you just as high for a good copy. If you've never checked out the ESV Study Bible its really good, and though the ESV might be a slightly harder read than the NIV84, it's still got traditional pronouns and it's not impossible to read. Hope this helps you on your journey!

Another linux user and recently acquired a physical BSB. The "GNU Bible". Just the humble blue "cloth over board" hardback from their first printing. I'm enjoying reading it. I like it's traditional sound yet smooth and engaging reading experience. Truly a "premium bible translation", as you state. "Good English prose" is important to me in a bible translation. The BSB does seem to strike an interesting balance between readability and accuracy, much like the CSB. Yet it takes a more formal approach by capitalizing pronouns possibly referring to God and by translating "adelphoi" as "brothers" instead of "brothers and sisters" as found in the CSB. In some ways, the BSB seems to combine good aspects of the CSB, NIV84, and the NKJV. There us much to like here. I do have one area of concern, however: It appears that the BSB may occasionally simply leave out a few words that the translators apparently felt were unnecessary. Note that this is not a majority text vs critical text issue, but it seems to be an effort to improve readability. One of the first few verses that I looked at to compare the BSB to both the Greek and the CSB was 2 Thess 1:3. The second half of this verse is shown here: BSB: ...because your faith is growing more and more, and your love for one another is increasing. CSB: ...since your faith is flourishing and the love each one of you has for one another is increasing. Greek: ...ὅτι ὑπεραυξάνει ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν καὶ πλεονάζει ἡ ἀγάπη ἑνὸς ἑκάστου πάντων _ὑμῶν_ εἰς ἀλλήλους The Greek "ἑκάστου πάντων ὑμῶν " would literally read something like "all of each of you", or more simply "each and every one of you". The original words are referring to the love shown by each individual in the church at Thessalonica, not just the overall efforts of the group. This is not a major theological error, but it still seemed to be a case where a bit of meaning was lost in the translation process. It seems in this instance that the BSB may have overly smoothed out the wording in this verse, and the result is loss of a bit of the original meaning. It appears that they may have been driven by the goal of using fewer words for smoother reading. I have not had time to look for more instances to determine whether this is a pattern or a single occurance. I hope this is not a recurring pattern, and that this verse might be more fully translated in future revisions.

BSB has 2 editions out now, and the first edition is easily a 9 or 10. The second edition, I believe 8.5-9. Both are on their website.

WHAT the world are you on about? YOU sound like a Govt. agent talking about other gov.t agencies- CIA, FBI, NAS... etc. BEST for me NKJV--- same as the original without the "thee's and Thous" but the rest is the same-- NO "OLD ENGLISH" garbage which , as it turns out- the ENGLISH never talked that way either-- just the actors like Shakespeare and those IDIOTS.. Why the bible ever got printed wtih that- is beyond me. NKJV is all ACCURATE translations- male pronouns are CORRECT- and everythnng else is simple modern CORRECT english not the modern trash most speak now-- without all the "THOU HAST" or " WE DIDST" or whatever.. SIMPLE plain english- pronouns correct- and NO tect althered from KJ except in the method of speech.

I love this Bible! I have it black and indexed. It fits so well in the hand. They are actually going to do a personal size single column in a calf skin - I think it’s set to release next spring (2024) according to their website. I have their compact single column and I think it’s going to be an awesome pairing in the personal size. Great review! God bless!

I've got the bonded leather wide margin reference CSB. I've yet to start using it. It's in its box on the shelf looking at me. Im way into my NASB2020 atm.

Im waiting for them to do a wide margin print. Those NIV84 Student Bibles were all the rage back in the the day. NIV reads so beautifully but they are a tad too dynamic for me now. I love the CSB, NASB2020 and just got a blue hardcover BSB.

I agree, NIV'84 is really dynamic. When I pick it up, it's mostly for nostalgia's sake. I like it for sentimental reasons, simple study and logic reveal that easier-to-read, but more literal versions are out there (BSB, CSB, HCSB, etc.).

A detriment, it is not. For me, the tendency to sound like Yoda is a perk of the ESV, it is. Where the NRSV-89 employs gender neutral language it breaks with the KJV but not the source manuscripts, correct? Unlike the new updated version which just whole hog crams modern sensibilities everywhere from what I've seen in line-by-line comparisons with the 1989 edition.

I've read the NRSV89 a lot more since I've made this video, and I would be willing to admit that NRSV'89 is a lot more literal than I've let on. In fact, NRSV'89 was my one and only for awhile. I agree with your assessment of the ue, too.

Late to the game here, but you said much that resonates with me. You also brought up the very passages (Heb. 2:6 & Ps. 8:4) that the NIV11 (and others [CSB, NLT...] to varying degrees) utterly butchered by neutering them. They turned a solid line to Christ in these passages into a dotted line at best, and had no good reason to do so other other than to consistently be gender inclusive no matter what. The build up to Christ's supremacy over all in Hebrews had the wind taken out of its sails by the gender accommodation. Anyway, I'm enjoying the NAS20 even though I've been an ESV Yoda kinda guy since 2006.

May have to pick up one of these BSB physical copies. The smaller updated one, particularly.

I’m a victim of the NIV update. The NIV 1984 was my main Bible for 20 years. I’ve been on a hard-core translation search myself I tried moving over to the NIV, 2011. But I just can’t. I basically settled on the Christian standard Bible I love that they use an optimal equivalency Trying to be word for word until it’s beneficial not to Makes a whole lot of sense to me. The gender neutral language isn’t like that and I have a 2011 They hold strong to mail only teachers, and when it’s clearly stating a particular gender, they go with it But I’m going to check out berean study Bible. Sounds like it might wind up being perfect. Thank you very much

I think the CSB single column is a home run as far as font size, line spacing, line length, font type.
