Thanks for sharing! Is there an easy way to get the front/back parts off after snapping them into place?
Thanks for watching! Yes, you can gently but firmly loosen them and pull them up. Maybe a few gentle taps are necessary.
Thanks for that!
Just make sure the ambient temp doesn’t drop below 60 degrees, or warm up the parts first if you’re in a cold climate.
I take the 4 Runner
Oh I thought it was 2012
lol. 2010 actually is when it was introduced, so it’s a new 14-year old truck. That’s the charm of it. Worth every penny!
@@MaximumDIYGarage 4 Runner All Day Long baby
@@justinstiff5641 yes sir! 👍

@@jamesharris883 yep, that’s as close to a Lexus GX460 as you can get, minus the sound deadening (double pane glass in the front a a V8 engine). Thanks, James!
You can keep it.
$28k + tax = $31k out the door.
@yardboy3955 I like your math better! 😂 I’m sure you saw the sticker: base price $31.5, after delivery fees, just over $33k+tax, title, license and other fees will be at $35k or a bit more.
Sale manager should be fired for putting that Nissan truck on the lot! Them doors will leak (water) within months!
@@MC-cp2rt lol. I don’t think that’s going to happen. It’s not like the sales people manufacture the truck. They sell whatever is brought to them. I say quality control engineer should get some heat for that I’ll-fitting rubber trim. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@charlesrogers8420 good call! What color is yours? Thank you for watching!

@@austinriggs5206 wow, you’ve got a foot deal on yours! And a V6 to boot!
The turbo is not an issue here. Toyota designed the turbo to be bypassed at light throttle. If you drive easy, the engine is normally-aspirated.
That’s news to me. Are you sure this is how this engine operates?
@@MaximumDIYGarage It's what the Tacoma's lead design engineer stated publicly during interviews.

@@DIY_AUTO_PHOTO thanks for checking it out, Stan!
4Runner all day long even if I had to buy a trailer to haul my motorcycles
👍
Thanks for your support, Justin!
That’s as basic as it gets. Do you recall think the new Toyotas are that bad?
I don’t know, to be honest. One one hand, I think Toyota is not stupid to risk their reputation and release a car/truck that will ruin their reputation. On the other hand, knowing that turbos require more maintenance and are likely not as reliable as n/a counterparts makes me nervous for the future of Toyota reliability. But other car makers are deep into making turbo engines for their cars. The future will show if it was a good call or not.
@@MaximumDIYGarage I think it’s the future to go to smaller turbo engines. Not they I favor it but I don’t think we can change it. On the other hand I owned an Ecoboost F-150 and never had any issues. Sounded bad but the torque made up for it.
@@EnthusiastCarHangar yes, the torque numbers do not lie. These 4-cylinder turbos generate as much torque and more than old n/a V8 engines in some cases. Just change oil every 3-5k miles and maintain it well, it should last a long time. The problem is, most people do not take care of their cars and that will mean “less reliability”. I wouldn’t mind owning a turbo car in the future (Bronco, F150, GX550, Tacoma, Land Cruiser, GR Corolla, whatever).

Eh.. thats sad.. ( I have weathertech mats in my Xterra that were giving to me by a friend when he lost his Xterra.. so I have had them for about maybe 2ish years no.. and before that he had it for few years.. and they still look like new
Yep, a new set of mats from Weathertech is on my wish list! They are grrrreat!
I never heard of that brand. I got Ford brand ones, Tesla brand ones and Lasfit cargo liner. All of them rubber and seem to be an ok quality.
Yes, these were from Amazon, a set of front and rear “you trim” mats for like $30. Never again. 😂
@@MaximumDIYGarage true too cheap sometimes isn’t worth it 😉
Looks good. Under what conditions have you been driving? Have you power washed it?
Just around town and some highway for about 6k miles and 1 winter. I have not power washed it, but did a couple of undercarriage rinses at the car wash (forgot that I treated the bolts with fluid film). I’ll have another update in a month, this will be a 2-year update. Stay tuned my friend!
@@MaximumDIYGarage I wondered if it stays on when you power wash it.
for the money the new land cruisers/mall cruiser is a fail. nothing close to 70's series. unless you just care about looks.
I agree, perhaps GX550 is a better deal as it starts around $70k, but more truck for the money. Interesting fact that 80-series LC in the 1990’s was around $80k in today’s money.
i should probably keep a case of this stuff on hand
Definitely a good idea to keep the undercarriage protected. Makes it easier to do DIY maintenance when you don’t have to cut off or drill the bolts out.
Yep looks like it did it job pretty well ! only only one downside it sticky so all dirt sticks to it.. but oh well better that then rust
Thanks for checking in, Stan! Yes, That was last year. I’ll have another annual update in a month.
Nice and easy upgrade ! for the side panel because of the slop maybe its possible to add more 3m double sided tape on each side of the mount to accommodate for that curve to make it more secure idk.. just and idea 😅
Thanks Stas! I thought about it, but then was afraid it wouldn’t look right. It works as is so far and I like it!
@@MaximumDIYGarage awesome then ! as long as it works and dose it it needs to do ;)
Hi. Thanks for this very helpful video. One question... Did you have any torque specs?
Hi! I’m sorry I do not. With exhaust components, the exact torque is not as critical as, say, engine block, etc. With time and exposure to heat cycles those bolts will melt to the exhaust components anyway and may need to be cut off next time they need to come off. Just use the German torque specs- Good and tight! 😆
@@MaximumDIYGarage ha ha. Yes, I’m familiar with those specs. I just want to avoid stripping or breaking when tightening.
Good deal! Thank you for watching and commenting. Doing this yourself saves you about $1000 in labor! You may get lucky asking your friendly neighborhood Nissan service dept for those torque specs. They sometimes print out a schematic of the system along with torque specs!
@@MaximumDIYGarage According to the dealership, 25-35 ft-lb. I wouldn't go over 25 ft-lb unless it was all new hardware.
Excellent! Thank you for sharing the specs!
Those Tacos are ugly bro
@FrankCambara I don’t disagree, but the Frontier is not exactly a thing of beauty either. 😂
I have been trying to find the black versions of these for a 4th gen Honda CRV for years! They used to exist but nobody sells them anymore. 😢
I would try eBay
You don’t have to jack up the vehicle or support the axle?
No you don’t. That’s the cool part about the rear shocks!
Doing mine now with you alongside !
Are you doing 4600- or 5400-series Bilsteins? Or other brand shocks? Use penetrating oil to make things come off smoother.
@@MaximumDIYGarage 4600s. My passenger side bottom will not break free for the life of me. Driver side done
Got an impact wrench? Heat gun? If all fails, take it to a shop, should be a 2 minute deal for them to remove it and quickly swap out the shock for like $50
I have a 23 Pro 4x . I have only had an issue with the cruise control and towing. Other than that no issues. I have cloth seats and heated everything. I paid $44,300 out the door. I think a way better value than the new Tacoma’s that are having lots of issues. I also get an average of 24-26 mpg in mixed driving.
@@danbelden7354 awesome! Thank you for sharing! What was wrong with cruise control? Got it fixed under warranty?
@@MaximumDIYGarage it wanted to downshift several gears when towing then several quick up shifts. I only ever noticed the shift issues when the cruise control was on.
Good to know. Thanks, Dan! The fuel economy you’re getting is great! You’ve made a right choice buying the Frontier!
@@MaximumDIYGarage I know. I wasn’t going to be a Guinea pig for GM or Toyota, with un proven engines and drive trains.
What’s the difference between permatex 82180 and permatex 59803 ? My box stores only sell the 59803 , and amazon says the 82180 will take over two weeks to get here (too late for when I need it)
@@nobody1322 I am sorry I do not know the difference between the two, it has to be high temperature resistant type of sealant to withstand the heat from the engine block. Try the local Nissan dealership parts department, they may have it on hand.
Man I must of lucked out. I just bought a 2007 FJ 2 wheel drive AUTO with the rear locker and LSD with 225,000 MILES for 6grand from a private owner. The FJ was owned in Texas pretty much its whole life and frame is clean as can be! I am located in Maryland and its been hard to find one in clean shape with good miles and fairly priced. Dealerships are over priced scum bags! lol .. I looked at the same color combo as your video but rust was bad as well. I ended up with the silver titanium color.
Awesome deal! Cool color too! Enjoy your FJ!
You can get a sunroof on an FJ.
Thank you for commenting! I was wondering about that as I’ve never seen one with sunroof. Was it available on all years (07-14), or only certain years or special trims, like Trails Edition?
@@MaximumDIYGarage l have an 07 same color as this one It’s not a base model it’s the second tier before Trail team and it has a sunroof
@richardeyler very cool, Richard! Thanks! You have a rare truck then!
I'd go Toyota...unless you can get the Nissan for a really good price.
Thanks for watching, buddy! As much as I’m a Toyota fan, I think the new Frontier is a more reliable truck at this point. New Tacomas are having problems with transmissions (both manual and auto). If anything, I’d go with a used V6 Tacoma (2nd or 3rd gen) with a manual. But for the price, the Nissans can’t be beat! That’s why I chose an Xterra over the FJ Cruiser.
@@MaximumDIYGarage I could have bought 2 pathfinders for the same year and milage 4 runner.
Yep,Toyota tax. 😂 Unfortunately, with the problem those new Tundras and Tacomas have, that may ruin the reputation. We shall see!

I've been driving tacomas for 18 years straight. Nissan is about to eat Toyotas lunch. Gunmetal is the 'silver' offered by Nissan.
Thank you for watching and commenting! But gunmetal is like a dark grey metallic, so no silver, whereas Toyota has grey metallic, underground and silver. There’s no excuse for Nissan not to offer such a common color as silver. Unless their marketing research team thinks otherwise. What is your favorite gen Tacoma?

TOYOTA IS CRAP!!!@ WHO WOULD BY JUNK
Whoa, take it easy there, Brad. We all know that the new Tacos and Tundras are off to a rough start, but that’s not the end, so I hope at least. If Toyota is crap, then what do you have to say about the three domestic car makers?
@MaximumDIYGarage What can I say Toyota drivers always trash talk us Nissan owners, so I'm sure there a lot a owners out there as happy as I am lol
I hear ya. I’m a fan of both brands’ products, but only certain ones. I like the Xterra (2005-2015)/Frontier (2005-2019)/Pathfinder (2005-2012) family as well as the 4Runner/GX/FJ Cruiser/LX/Land Cruiser (2003-2019), but not new Versa, Sentra/Altima/Rogue or Rav4/Camry/Corolla.
My Nissan 2023 frontier pro 4x has been to the dealership over 9 times. Battery failure twice while running (non diagnosed issue), window motor dying twice, the rear bed door lock mechanism (twice 6 months), rear left door handle broken (never used randomly broke), and now my entire light switch component simply fell from the roof this weekend when I tried turning on the light. Frontier is shit.
@@Ben-we4ej thank you for sharing your experience with your Fronty. Sorry to hear that. At least, mechanically (engine and transmission) it seems solid, no? I’ve had an Xterra with a manual (see my channel) and loved every minute of owning that truck with all the low-rent interior bits, it was unstoppable and started every time!
@@MaximumDIYGarage yes. Other then the fact the battery died while driving twice, this makes me feel something mechanical is going on since the alternator should have stopped that.
Or an electrical issue. Most commonly weak ground wire. Should be covered under warranty hopefully 🤞
You misspoke about no other V6s offered in this class. The Gladiator and the Ridgeline both offer V6s. Some people may claim the Ridgeline isn’t a “truck” - who cares, that isn’t the point - they are still cross shopped with the Frontier, Tacoma, Colorado and Ranger.
@@jackhart99 I stand corrected, Jack. Thank you! I forgot about those. Honestly though, those two are each in sort of sub-class on their own, aren’t they? Not too many guys shopping for a Tacoma and Frontier look at the Gladiator. It’s a Jeep thing. I bet, most people buying a Gladiator may already have or have had a Wrangler or another Jeep (if they’re brand loyal) in their family. The Ridgeline, yes, thats the one honestly I’d buy as I do not need a body on frame truck and only need the bed like 4 times a year, lol. It is a great truck IMHO.
2024 Crew Cab SV is a well designed and finished compact truck. Very smooth 9 speed auto transmission paired with a 6 cylinder motor which gets great mileage, a capable truck for towing and carrying.Everything to like about it.

I found this video after I replaced my spark plugs and i screwed the intake manifold to 11 ft/lbs instead 8….. think it will be ok until i replace the valve cover in few weeks ? runs ok so far
It should be fine, really. Just be prepared to replace the intake manifold gaskets again if they were compressed unevenly to avoid future leaks. Should not need to replace the valve cover gaskets since they are brand new and still pliable, however the RTV will need to be replaced in those corners.
