Great video I just came across a rod with the wood rod holder tin ?? On each end no cork on rod and no markings whatsoever ? Any idea where I could find more info on this ?? I've been looking for a while now and no one seems to know. Thanks
Thank you for making this video. It was very informative. As a kid I was given an old bamboo fly rod which opened a whole new aspect of fishing that has been a lifelong passion. I don't get out much anymore but gave a lifetime of memories that can relish. Thanks again. God Bless n Fish on!
I just got one of those Japanese fly- spin combo rods ,it came with four top sections , it needs a stripping guide and one guide on the mid section , the joint that inserts into hand grip is seized , any tricks to get it undone? WD 40 ? 🤔. The plan is to just fix it up and fish it since it’s not an expensive rod , I believe the brand is NFT , thanks for posting 👍
@@danatavares2038 haven’t got around to redoing it yet had two old bamboo heavy cane poles that I’ve been working on , one is completely done it came out great hard to believe it’s the same rod the other I’ve got the guides off and I’m scraping the old varnish off it but it should only be a couple days then sand it with 00 steel wool and refinish , just picked up an old 9’ - Shakespeare bamboo rod with two tips at a yard sale for $12 bucks I’m thinking it’s from the 1950’s or 60’s it needs refinishing to , now trying to find old reels 😏
Good afternoon, I have 4 old rods 2 are bamboo hexagonal, and 2 are round I dont kmow what they are made of. None have any threads on the real seat. One has a stamp that says pat. 1873. None have cork handles. None have any names or writing on them. They have a wooden dowel that was fluted like the one you showed in the video. And they have a cloth sock. I was wondering what you think they may be worth wondering how how old.
I have a vintage fly rod and reel withe case and i don't know what its worth or how old ot is. I would like tell sell it at the right price. You interested?
I have a cheaper bamboo pole from my grandmothers brother in law. I worry about it being brittle. I have to replace the guides. You gave me good points for inspecting the fly rod. A friend who builds bamboo fly rods as a hobby told me that it’s in good condition and should be re-done. I also want a spinning bamboo pole. I had one from the same uncle but broke. Any suggestions as to where I can find one. I love the action with trout. I’m thinking of converting a bamboo fly rod blank to a spinning outfit. I did this with graphite 35 years ago. It’s time to move up. Any ideas where you would suggest getting a blank with Ferrells that I could convert? Anyone with information I would appreciate it.
I have 3 vintage bamboo poles , all in great shape, 2 have extra tips, and are 2 pieces, one has three pieces. These were part of an inheritance and so I would like to sell them for a decent price, not a killing. The poles are in Southern California near LA debbieramsey@musicanddance.com
I am new to fly fishing. Will be 80 in two months. I bought a rod on Craig's list. Turned out to be bamboo. It has a South Bend label. Next to that is 4 C H or C Directly behind the South Bend label is 47-9' The first line guide on middle section appears to be missing.. The rest of the guides appear to be in good shape. As a beginner, can I practice with this rod without replacing the line guide, and can you give me a range of it's value.
Very helpful video. I have a South Bend 24 8 1/2 that I believe had never been used. It has a stamp on it saying "obselete" and I'm looking for any information on this rod? Thank you.
My HI "Lucky Ace" 8'6'' throws a 5wt just fine even if the tip isn't perfectly straight. Rod and HI reel cost $25 plus shipping. Almost as good as my Heddons.
love it - thats very ingenious. only suggestion is make sure all things done are shown on screen, a couple operations were off screen... your verbal descriptios were excellent . thanks so much.... Bob
Thank you Bob. Yes, it can be difficult to get it all in, especially with a propped up cell phone taking the video. This was done on my kitchen table, so I hope to make better videos soon since I have a desk now.

Just saw some of these at Fly South in Nashville while on a holiday trip. Can't wait to tie some up for fishing in the Driftless area of Wisconsin.
