I'm all about sharing nice Irish tunes to keep them alive. The tunes I upload are usually ones I'm learning so they're not perfect. But I hope if anyone else likes them they'll learn them as well.
For, me the great thing about Irish music is that it evolves and changes. People have their own styles and tunes can change depending on where they're being played and by whom!
I'll do my best to tell ya'll where I found the tunes from so you can go check it out. Feel free to message me about anything to do with the music.

The blackbird / Dinny O'Briens Hornpipe
Both the name and the tunes come from two different De Danann UA-cam videos. I absolutely love both tunes, particularly the second one.

Portarlington Jig / McKenna's

Two jigs from Patrick Street. They didn't play them together but I like the change from the first two the second. I've videoed these before but felt like doing them again!

Got this from Aly Bain and the Boys of the Lough. In G, beautiful tune. Did it before but thought it was good enough to try again

First is pretty well known, not sure about the second. Got them from Stockton's wing, will find the names later!
Rambles of Kitty - Gillian's Apples

I got the first one from Liam O'Flynn, lovely slip jig (I think) and the second was apparently made famous by the Dartry céilí band. They play both of these together. I'm still a bit raw on the second one but it's getting there.
Portarlington Jig - John McKenna's

Both of these come from Patrick Street, I think via Kevin Burke. He had tonnes of great tunes. I put them together because I had nothing else with them and I think the transition is ok but not great. I really like the run at the end of the first one.
Liverpool Hornpipe / Bob McQuillen's (Maybe)

Two lovely hornpipes, especially the second. If anyone knows the name please enlighten me. I messed up the end but I'm often imperfect so I left it in!
The Green Island / Byrne's Hornpipe

Two hornpipes in D. The first is on the Comhaltas website and I got from Liam O'Flynn (although he plays it slightly differently). The second is from De Danann's jigs, reels and songs album after the song "Love will you marry me."

First one is very common (if you know what the name is, comment!). I got it from the Chieftains actually on their Down the Old Plank Road album (or maybe the second album of that). Second tune is Boys of the Lough and is on youtube, link below. Nice tune that. 3rd tune ua-cam.com/video/qundc1CmV5M/v-deo.html

From Aly Bain and the Boys of the Lough. Very lovely tune. Love playing it. Might sound better in a lower key. This is G with the second part being slightly strange and unruly. I might try it on a C or Bb whistle soon and upload that. Enjoy! I really love this tune.
Polkas: Magic Slipper / O'Keeffe's
Переглядів 73610 років тому
The Magic Slipper (Little Diamond Polka) and O'Keeffe's. I'm not sure if it was called O'Keeffe's but the second tune I got from a CD of Johnny O'Leary who I think got it from O'Keeffe. First one was Seamus Begley I think.
Green Island Hornpipe

From Liam O'Flynn. Been meaning to learn this for ages. Hornpipe in G. The high A in the second part gets a bit squeaky but try and ignore it!

Bravissimo! ❤
Thanks for this. I'm trying to work out the backing chords for this tune. 👍
Hip! Ye boy ya.
Nailed it
Very nice set, Fionnán.
You did a great job in these tunes Mhaith thú!
We need the sheet please!!!
YOU'RE SO GREAT DUDE
Yes, a lovely tune. Enjoyed other video as well, thanks!
Do you have the tabs? Ive neen trying to learn it myself but im stuck
You promised your fans the names!
What are the names??
Hey lad, I know it's been 6 years but do you have the sheet music of this by any chance?
No but these guys do! (Great website) thesession.org/tunes/2236
Bloody awesome!
brilliant playing, thanks. but isn't that second number 'harvest home'?
ah, i see now. 'cork hornpipe' = 'harvest home'. learn something new everyday. thanks for the tunes, man!
Not "Catherine Hehir's", it's called "Arthur Darley's" or "The Swedish Jig" - 2 completely different tunes, and the 3rd part should have the notes "F-natural" and "B-flat" in it. Quite difficult to do on a whistle.
Well done !!!! What a breath !!!
Very Nice, well done!! Nice playing.
I know another polka with name "The Magic Slipper"...
Amazing
fuckin' ace
Hi the link is not working anymore !! searching notes for Young Ned Of The Hill
TipTop!
Lovely playing please let us hear some more
Cheers for that tune! Excellent!
Thank you so much for transcribing it! I've been after this tune forever
great job sounds great
can you right down the notes for both of these songs so i can learn them please? woukd really appreciate it, thabks
Ok I've included a link in the video description. Hope it makes sense!
Very true!
No I didn't. Nobody else ever asked! I could do an ABC thing to give you the gist of it maybe but I don't know the proper notation for it.
*that's great info :D
cheer man that's info ;)
I find breathing a problem with many tunes as well. Especially reels where there are as many gaps in the tune do you can inhale! It helps if you're relaxed and have something to drink ;)
thanks ya'll. An asian girl on holidays in Ireland to learn English played this for us in a pub in Dublin during the summer. I feel the tune has travelled well! ha
great music thanks! LAPD was an unfortunate choice of name for them - almost impossible to find amongst the code 3's, and Police Academies etc etc -
I learned how to play Young Ned of the Hill a while back but still can't find a single thing that would give tin whistle notes/sheet music. In fact, other than Spider Stacy, I havent heard anyone else play Bitey's theme on the tin whistle. I cant play by ear, unfortunately :/ Did you ever get around to transcribing it?
My O'neill mother in Belfast would love this.
Brilliant! How do you play for so long without getting an itchy throat, saliva dripping down the whistle, a sneeze coming on, or just running out of breath? All these things happen to me i'm embarrassed to say, i got to stick to short tunes :D If i could one day get to your level of proficiency i'd be very happy.
I know it from somewhere else than the Chieftans (queue a big YT search). Thanks!
try thesession. Great website. Bitey's theme won't be there but I might have a go at transcribing it in a little while.
He certainly did "write" it in some sense but I do wonder how that came to pass. As in, did he collaborate with someone or did it arise from a session somewhere of a few musicians. I find it equally perplexing that he would write a tune like this and never attempt to do so again, despite all the chances he would have had to explore that talent with little instrumentals in the songs he wrote.
You're talking crazy here, settle down.
@@FlyingFish747 ?
thank you!
It's a dixon polymer in D. You can find them on the tonydixonmusic website. I wouldn't really recommend them. They can sound flat sometimes.
Then how come Finer and Woods get writing credit on some songs but not others? Why would they say, for example, that Finer wrote A Pistol for Paddy Garcia or Planxty Noel Hill by himself then say Shane wrote Shanne Bradley by himself if it wasn't true?
Thanks! These are my two favorite songs played on the tin whistle (convenient that they're in the same place, again thanks! Wonderful rendition, by the way.) but I've been unable to find sheet music for either. Would you mind posting the notes or a link to where I could find them?
nice technique, cheers
D. can sound a bit flat sometimes though.
just by ear. check thesession website for tabs maybe
what key is your whistle?
