Phew 😢 glad you stayed safe 😀
Me too ... Developing good visual scanning for other traffic (See and Avoid) is important. Of course, Alerted See and Avoid is better where radio calls or ADSB alerts can direct you to scan a given sector is even better. I use XC-Guide as my primary flight instrument and it displays traffic from www.safesky.app/ but for some reason this did not show this heli. Perhaps the time between the heli being visible on ADSB and me was too short. Over the last year there have been about 10 occasions where XC-Guide and SafeSky have highlighted traffic many minutes before I would have seen it even with the most dilligent visual scan. Knowing where to scan greatly increases my situational awarness. Have fun, fly safe
Yes that must help enormously. It was so weird hearing the helicopter on the camera knowing there is no way you could have heard its approach. 🙃
Insta360's X4 model can be reframed and zoomed without the pixelation.
I was using a Insta360 x4 but I had zoomed in a huge amount. It is an amazing camera. Have fun, Fly safe, Peter
Yeah, pretty scary. Was there a call out? Bet not. Same thing over here at YLTV.They just come roaring in or passing nearby. No warning.
No call from them or from I. The CANBERRA APPROACH EAST area frequency (124.5) is quite busy as it is also used by all area traffic as well as all controlled traffic approaching Canberra. The FlightRadar24 track shows they were much lower earlier in flight and they were climbing when I saw them. FR24 does not show their track when crossing the mountains on the way from Nowra to Canberra and when returning to Nowra. Either they were too low for any FR24 listener to receive them or they had turned their ADSB off. I had a similar experience about 5 years ago with a low flying heli and after a long series of eamails I managed to get AirServices Australia to add an ULTRALIGHT symbol to the map. Have fun, Fly safe. Peter
Hi Peter, my name is Darren and I live just outside Jindabyne. I'm looking to start paramotoring in Spring and have done some research into straight through paramotor courses (Im a qualified AFF Parachutist- ex British Army) There looks to be 3 companies that provide the training. Jave you had any experience with them. Where did you learn? Any assistance appreciated. Thanks for the videos of snowy Kosciuszko!
Hi Darren, @EveryWhichWayButLost Sorry it has taken so long to reply ... I would rather be out there doing life rather than making videos about it. Glad to hear that you are looking at the PPG course. Several of instructors have recently closed and when we talk I might be able to save you some time. Feel free to contact me via email and then phone. You can see my email address by looking at my Channel at www.youtube.com/@DrPeteParamotor/videos then clicking MORE and follow the prompts. The following page has a heap of information that might be useful to you. tiny.cc/pe-ppg Have fun, Fly safe, Peter
Looks like you are having fun there Pete.
I was ... And I get immense satisfaction practicing circuits. Have fun, Fly safe

Whoa - hope you're alright Pete?
Not a scratch on me ... but some good lessons have been learnt. One is that our harness clips are designed to not be able to be opened when there is load on them (this is good for paragliding) ... but if I am half hanging on them (e.g. in the frame of a trike), they are impossible to open (this is very very bad). I have just order a single point quick release. Another is to add a 1 way valve (air in but no fuel out) to my fuel breather hose. Have fun. Fly safe.
Great control!!
Having a stable wing (left-right and forward-back) is REALLY important in a trike. Have fun. Fly safe.
Glad all your planning, preparation and precautions resulted in a good outcome Pete
The more you can prepare for before the flight the less you need to think about in the air (where things can unravel at the speed of gravity). Have fun. Fly safe.
Looks like you landed close to my place :-) Next time give me a call and I'll come and get you 🙂
Well done, Dr. Pete.👏👏👏
Thanks ... it was a team effort.
Another great video Pete Just remember you LOSE height, it doesnt get loose. 😂
Thanks. Spelling is not one of my strong points ... and a spell checker does not help with things like this. Oh well. Where do you fly? Feel free to contact me if you are going to be near Canberra. Have fun, Fly safe.
@@DrPeteParamotor , hey Pete, your video abilities make up for any lack of grammatical skills. I've spoken to you a few times over the last few years, E first met at Gloucester airfield for that mini Icarus event. I'll be down from Dubbo one day to have a fly with you,
Great overview of an “exciting” flight Peter! At least you didn’t have any collapses. I try to stay well away from those sorts of situations… yeah, once bitten!
I am SO impressed with modern wings ... never a hint of a frontal or collapse, even when I was under the inversion. BUT there is a bit of cranky air out there that can dismantle even the strongest aircraft.
@@DrPeteParamotor Oh what wing do you fly Peter? Must be a solid one.
Thanks very much for all your hard work and big effort ,Peter.
And thanks for all your help as well, Kaz. It was a BIG effort for all the team, especially Naoh.
Awesome
If you ever get down towards Canberra, feel free to contact me.
Thats awesome. Getting that app. The only problem I have is how to get the audio from my phone to the headset. I could simply use a pair of Bluetooth earbuds, which I have used before for music but they changed my area into a radio mandatory zone, so I have to monitor the radio now and have to leave the music ;( Would be optimal if you could route everything through my BT earbuds since they have noise canceling too. So in the even of radio activity, or traffic alerts I'd get the info and also be able to listen to music.
I've started using the XC-Guide (Android) app as it displays ADSB traffic (from ADSBexchange) on my moving map display. This makes it a little easier as I don't need to use Android popup windows to display multiple apps at the same time. Good to hear that you are monitoring the mandatory traffic. I use an aviation coms box to mix VHF, UHF, Phone audio ... anytime there is audio from the VHF everything is automatically muted. This is one reason why some of the motor cycle oriented systems are not suitable if you are using VHF radio. Have fun, Fly safe.
Dear Dr.Pete My name is Hidetaka Tezuka and I am a participant in Naohiro Yamamoto's 7 Summit Project. I am looking forward to your flight next month. I hope to see you again at the upcoming online meeting.
Hi Hide, I only just saw your comment ... it was an honour to fly with you and Naoh in August on the Mt Kosciuszko leg of the Above the Seven Summits project. We all did well! Have fun, Fly safe.
Looked a lovely day to go flying.
Hi Giles 🖐 Pete's video "From Bungendore towards..." Shows my feet filming his engine out landing and starting an unnecessary pickup, that ended in pies for lunch 😁🥧.
@@blue_beephang-glider5417 Hi Blue, spotted you..and I hope the pies were good afterwards :)
Looks good, I could tell the pilot is experienced by the way he avoided the prop-wash but only just. 😎👍
He is VERY experienced ... the next weekend we got some excellent footage flying near fog showing wingtip vortices.
A great day for me. My flight was smoothish all the way, having landed an hour plus earlier. Your motor out just added interest to the flight and has prompted me to put together a tool-kit! Which hopefully I'll never use... I'll also have to work out better camera mounts. Still fun day 😎👍
Hi Blue, It DID add interest. And it is always good to think about these things before they happen. Below is my little tool kit and spares: * 2 spare spark plugs (gapped and tested) * Spark Plug spanner * Flat and star head screwdriver (to open and adjust carb) * 2 cable ties * Light String (net repair, line repair, to hold the world together) * Heavier string (tow trike in case I outland a long way from the road) * Insulation tape * Small multitool (pliers, knife) * Light weight wing bag to control wing if I outland. A very light wing bag can be made out of a $2 sun dome you can buy from the Green Shed and then ripping out the bottom and sewing in a draw string. And a prewritten note (to clip to frame in case I have to leave it) and pen to add other information or cross out the NOTs Hello, My name is Peter Evans (<my phone number snipped out>). I landed here because of motor problems. There is no need to call Men-in-Black or Border Force. I am NOT injured and DO NOT require assistance. Search&Rescue information is available at tiny.cc/pe-sar-info I will return to retrieve my equipment and I thank you for your understanding. Kind regards, Peter Evans members.safa.asn.au/member_lookup.php?member_number=33992
Thanks Pete, nice one! Love the comment at 5:50, I think a lot of us can relate.
Dave Gonssalves ... yepe, the flight back at noon was a lottle bit of a grunt. In addition to the noon thermals, I think there was a bit of a battle and wind shear between a lower easterly and an upper westerly. Staying higher gave me more options in case of another motor out. Have fun, Fly safe, Peter
Love the clarity of the voice over/music. 😎👍
I recorded the voice at home using my video editor (Kdenlive). It makes it really easy to change the volume of the music when there is a voice-over. And Kdenlive is free (Mac, Win, and Unix). Have fun, Fly safe Peter
Hey Pete, really liked the video, I lived in Canberra for over 30 years so it was interesting to see it from the air.
@stephenfrost5228, glad you liked it. Canberra is a fantastic place to fly 'cos there are lots of interesting things to see and also because it is in a big valley so early morning the winds are calmer. You might be interested in some of the other flights in the Canberra playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLeaNjD6ZQXtnBUkehRUjvJNopPgxF523g.html
Fantastic footage.
It is fantastic to see how "solid" the wing looks ... I was very confident in the drone pilot but I imagine that flying with someone who was less skilled would be a lottle concerning. Have fun, Fly safe
Hah! I saw you fly over and now there's a vid of the flight! Magic! I'm in the valley.
A Vlop, It is a BIG valley and a lottle intimidating when flying into it for the first time. I hope to fly a little further next time ... perhaps to Moruya next time and the 10km of trees down the Deua River Valley is the next hurdle. Do you fly? or are interested in aviation... we are always looking for interesting places to land. Have fun, Peter
Could have spiralled down to 1000 feet and then head home repeating as necessary on the way
Yepe, using different descent techniques would work ... but at that stage of my flying career I was DEFINITELY not confident to do Big Ears or spirals on full throttle ... actually I am not sure that I would be confident to do these now ... another thing to add to the list of things to talk to people and try in a safe environment. At this stage I was using a carb that the throttle butterfly would bind up and put strain on the throttle arm (I broke 2 in exactly the same place). Glad to say that I have changed motors and I no longer have this problem. Have fun, Fly safe
Do you have a video of the easitune and the carb adjuster working on your moster185? I would love to see how well all of this works together!
cool man want a join too!! ^^
N.C. Why don't you? Do you fly? If not we are always looking for people to drive a jerry can. In 2019 we flew 3000km from Bendigo in Victoria to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Have fun, Peter
its fantastic to see lake george with water up to the highway
Yes, the cycles of dry and wet are pretty amazing. In the 60's foam would blow onto the highway in a strong easterly. The highwater is a problem for people who use the lake bed e.g. for grazing or as a fantastic place for various recreations e.g. paramotoring or land yacht... but our time will come. Do you have a theory about the different colours of the lake at 26:20 ?
@@DrPeteParamotor it amazes me that the first fishing trawler in australia operated on lake george. it was brought out from england and people thought lake george was going to be full forever
@@DrPeteParamotor i just assumed it was inflow of dirty flood water but i do not really know.
Great flight! had the same thermals on landing yesterday, wondering if it's the large amount of drying grass? I flew for an hour and used 8 liters of fuel, does that seem right? The manual says 4 liters an hour. The treed area before the Quakers would have you hearing every beat of the engine, I imagine. Liked the train 🙂👍
Hi, Yes, you should be getting more like 4lph but it depends on what RPM you are doing in flight. Lets talk next time at the paddock. I have been flying more to the west past the tip as it is class G to 5500 and there are plenty of landing options (near the road). Have fun. Fly safe. Peter
Nicely done in challenging conditions 😎👍 Bit of an edge of the seat effort. And I see the oval has been mowed hooray. I fitted the big fuel tank to the V-Lite and need to flight test my work. Love to start flying with you after that.
Hi Beep_Beep, As pilots we operate in a dynamic world of many, many variables, some of which we can control and others we can't. Choosing my own time to land was critical ... if I didn't things would have quickly gotten away from me. I look forward to doing some XCs with you. The full video is available at: ua-cam.com/video/o-SQ04psLlY/v-deo.html Have fun. Fly Safe. Peter
Wonder if that was the day before my flying was stopped by long grass at Bungendore ? I am looking at investing in a syethe 🤔? Also volunteered to help Chris do mowing but he says we need two weeks of dry whether. So 2029 with luck 🙂🤞
Yepe, the limit on mowing is the ride-on getting bogged! I bought a reasonably priced $200 whipper-snipper (line trimmer) from a German supermarket and I can clear an airstrip for me in an hour or two. Have fun. Fly safe. Peter
Where would one by the Have- A -Chat system? Didn’t see anything online. Is there a link available?

Is dynasteel like jb weld?
Jon, I imagine they are similar ... dynasteel comes as a 2 part putty. See www.dyna-grip.com.au/epoxy-products Have fun, fly safe, Peter
Magic flight! Yes I'd like to come along, summer and or winter. Just have to get a bigger fuel tank and more experience/confidence. Which will happen, either that or we all start building an arc? 👳♂ ⛴ 🐘🐘 🦘🦘 🐅🐅 🐪🐪 🦏🦏 🐃🐃 🌧🌩🌨🌩⛈🌨🌩🌊🌊🌊
Hi Blue, Remember the tank does not maketh the man ... but it sure helps on a long flight. Last night I dreamt of jumping over the range and landing at Khancoban. Have fun, Fly safe. Peter
Call in for a coffee next time.
Would love to ... several people have said they want to do the flight in summer so it might be before next winter. Do you fly? Peter

Awesome flight dude!!
Thanks. And Moruya airport is less than 40km down the valley (over more trees) and only 104km from Bungendore. The flight from Bungendore to Araluen was about 130km return. The Have-A-Chat (HAC) helmet UHF/VHF/smart phone communications system worked brilliantly. Have fun. Fly safe. Peter
Nice flight 😎👍
Thanks. We were both very pleased with it. Looking forward to doing similar flights with you. I have permission to land in a field near Araluen and already found someone who can supply ULP98 in jerry cans.
What's your setup? What wing etc.

Is this the *Official Channel* for the _"Across Australia 🇦🇺 Paramotor Record Flight"_ 🤔 ???
It turns out that there are TWO across Australia by paramotor trips flying across the country in July/August 2022. And I am not flying with either of them for various reasons. I am VERY ENVIOUS. Tim Rowlinson's trip has a private FB group at facebook.com/groups/286337120057031 Richard Dolan's trip has a web site at www.ppg-aus.com/ and UA-cam playlist at ua-cam.com/play/PLiFoOLXgYJMq7Ue95w7QmlvzHjXUSt7dq.html And did I mention that I am VERY ENVIOUS of not flying with either group! Have fun, Fly safe. Peter
@@DrPeteParamotor Thanks for your very informative reply DrPete, its always difficult when circumstances fail to align properly 🤔. But in retrospect, there's usually a jolly good reason (in my experience of things throughout life). Here's hoping another opportunity will present itself to you to make a special journey for the history books.
Small but interesting video. I remembered I could not stand firmly on my foot during first landing. But my motor was very heavy about 37 kgs with fuel
Modern gear is soooo much lighter. Practice is really important ... one takeoff and one landing every couple of weeks is not enough to build and maintain skills. Have fun. Fly safe, Peter
30 plus year gap since I've done radio calls so that part of all your videos is very helpful. 😊👍
Even if I do not have a radio and I am landing in the middle of a paddock I generally do a circuit with all the calls. Have fun, Fly safe. Peter
If that farmer was actually concerned about erosion, he'd plant that hill with trees.
My first meeting with you I nearly went into lake George... A bit of a bounce only you notice, different if you have 300 passengers!!! That paramotor has yet to be made 😄
Yepe, every landing is an opportunity to reflect and learn something. Have fun, Fly safe Peter
When do you start? When will we see any posts ? The best of luck however it goes, Blue
