Setting up and testing my new to me 30 year old Flail Mower - a John Deere 25A. It's old, and well used, but in pretty darn good shape for as old as it is... But it was a booger-bear to get attached to the tractor - which is why the previous owner sold it to me! He felt he was getting too old to wrestle with this beast. And I can totally relate! Yeah, but I don't want them taking away my precious wildflower seed! I got this mower to help me spread that seed where it needs to be... This place used to be a hay field and had ZERO wildflowers. After carefully nurturing the wildflower population we now have a CARPET of wildflowers in the spring and one heck of a variety of butterflies, bugs and various pollinators visiting.

Hi again, I posted a comment 5 months ago mentioning that the website you bought your exhaust from no longer carried the OBX axel back system. I recently found it listed in eBay and after delivery on Memorial Day Weekend, I installed the unit on my NC. I just drove my car normally for the week to let it sort of break in. Every Saturday morning I drive up and down my local mountain road. Today was no different, this is roughly 30 miles of manual shifting with average engine speeds of 4K. It appears that the muffler gets louder over time. What you hear on a cold start after the initial install is different in a week. I heard from others that it gets louder after a few months. Since you installed this axel back a long time ago, have you experienced this change? When you finally do get your headers and mid pipe I can imagine how much louder it’s going to be. I think for me it’s loud enough. BTW, this Miata is a dude magnet. I’ve had do many young guys talking to me about the Miata and my mods. When my wife drives it she really gets a lot of attention.

@possumfarms thanks for the reply! I ended up getting this same exhaust, paired with a Goodwin racing 1.8" max power catless header and the Stock midpipe. The drone at 2400-3000 RPM is bad especially on decel, but butt dyno feels like I picked up another 3-5 HP up top in RPMs compared to stock muffler with the header and tune already installed 👍 It's a smidgen too loud for my taste but it was cheap, I'll probably get the Cobalt Muffler in the future to quiet it down some more

That video was a compilation of over 40 years of our lives... We live in a world that I was seemingly not brought up for now. You can never foretell your future, but you can try... I went back to where I grew up and EVERYTHING has changed! Fields I used to go hunting in and riding motorcycles in are all now "insta-neighborhoods" with strip centers, gas stations and lots and lots of tract homes... It was depressing. It makes me glad I dragged my family out in the boondocks and built a farm on what used to be nothing more than a hay field. It's "The retirement farmlet in the middle of nowhere". :)

I don't fault the original builder all that much... A father and son team that were NOT mechanics... Much like many Cobra builds. I would NEVER EVER use this in the house... EVER! For a drafty barn with a HIGH ceiling, sure, in a house - oh hell no! When the barn is all closed up and the top ridge vent is open, and running this thing for hours - you WILL notice yourself getting a headache. Which means it is time to open a door and go outside for a while! Because it is the first signs of carbon monoxide/dioxide poisoning... As someone without the means to build or buy one, I was always very judgemental on how one of these 'should' be built (427 Ford--I wouldn't mind the 427 Windsor-based small block crate engine that Ford sells/4 or 5 speed manual). Several months ago, I saw a few videos featuring West Coast Cobra replicas (a now defunct replica manufacturer). Their cars were not as 'authentic' in the looks department, but the more videos I saw, the more I opened up to the idea of this alternative brand of replicas. The cars featured 460 crate engines from Ford Motorsports, and buyers had the option of 4-speed (it might have been a 5 speed) manual or 3 speed auto. With 500 or so horsepower on tap when Ford offered the 460s as a crate engine, I actually started to like the idea of the 3-speed autos as many of the videos showed West Coast cars that featured the auto. Just a few weeks ago, I found a video of another Shell Valley car which looked fairly authentic, and that one featured a 427 Chevy small-block and 5 speed manual. As well, there is a video short on yet another Shell Valley Cobra with a 427 Chevy ZL1 big-block (a newer released, limited edition crate engine offered by Chevy a few years back based on the orignal 427 ZL1). For some reason, Shell Valley kits seem to end up with Chevy engines. So, making a complete circle, here we are with this Shell Valley replica with yet another Chevy engine and also featuring an auto.

Carroll Shelby's first choice wasn't Ford, it was Chevy, but they turned him down! They didn't want to support competition for their Corvette. So he approached Ford. And they took the bait! :) As to the auto - Shelby himself had a 260cid Ford with a C4 auto as his own personal car, one of the first ones built before they stuck in 289's. He had it until he passed away in his own collection. He used it for years, driving all over California. And as he put it, You just get in and "drive"! In traffic and in the hills, all you had to do was drive and enjoy the drive and not worry about shifting... It wasn't a racer - it was to go out and just enjoy driving. Which is exactly what I am intending to do. I didn't buy this Cobra to race, I just wanted something nice to take my wife out to dinner in and go enjoy the twisty turny back country roads in the rural Texas county that I live in. It has "street manners"! I don't need a 500hp fire breathing monster to take my wife out to the local wine bar for a flat bread pizza and vino... :) A 355hp monster will do just fine... Thanks for your comment...

Whoever you bought this car from, sure didn’t know what he was doing! This thing is gonna run wild when you get it sorted out. How about some details, like what motor is in this, horsepower, transmission, etc.etc..

Thanks for your comment! I think it was more along the lines of a couple of different owners (The dealer who purchased it from the builder and the "second owner") were more used to computerized cars and NOT 1960's style technology. I'm sorta old school, and an ex-drag racer that is used to carbs and analog stuff - because it worked! IF YOU KNOW HOW. One of the reasons I took this project on, is it had an engine and transmission I KNEW quite well. And an engine I had spent many many years working on for the drag strip. One that I could damn near tear down and reassemble blindfolded... One that I already had spares sitting on the shelf from my old drag racing days! LOL To some, it is blasphemous. To me, it was slipping on an old shoe, well worn and familiar. A Chevy ZZ4 crate motor and a TH350 automatic transmission. 350 CID and a pretty bone stock TH350 transmission that I had parts on the shelf for - and even a 800HP rated full drag race prepped trans to replace it if the need arose. I KNEW for an absolute fact that this wasn't running right when I first heard it - but I knew it was a simple fix! The trans works perfectly... Nothing fancy, nothing earth shattering, nothing that was too powerful for a fun weekend cruiser - which is exactly what I wanted! Honestly, I did NOT want a 500+ HP big block track monster with a manual transmission. I wanted something I could hand the keys to someone else and not worry about them wrapping it around a tree! It has a modest 355 HP with about 418lb-ft. of torque that is easy to drive. A little twitchy because it weighs less than a Miata! But still manageable. It will still plant you back in the seat like a jet fighter... And yeah, it may be a lot more fun with a manual transmission - but after sitting in several cobras, I quickly figured out that my fat, wide feet covered more than one pedal at a time! The footwell is TINY! Making driving it with even the skinniest shoes I own, downright dangerous! So the auto trans made sense and really fell in line with what I WANTED out of this car, a simple to drive, fun weekend cruiser I could take my lovely wife out to dinner in. But as you will see, in upcoming videos - it is STILL one hell of a handfull to drive and one hell of a scary beast to try to hold onto. You can't take your hands off of the wheel for a second! It's kind of like trying to hold onto a feral hog by the tail when someone else has a blow torch up its butt.... :)

My barn is about 1150 sq. ft and the one head on LOW works quite well... No need for anything larger. It takes a while to get up to temp but it keeps it there with a big 40 lb bottle of gas.

Looking forward to future videos of this car. What are you going to name her? She sounds like she's been cammed.

His name is "Chupa Cobra"... (Chupie for short) That sound was a bit tattle-tale to me when I first looked at it. The previous owner LOVED how it sounded and that "lowered look" to the front end. I, on the other hand, was sorta pissed about it. First, the "lowered look" was because of BROKEN SPRINGS! The front end required a complete rebuild. New shocks, springs, bushings, tie rods, ball joints, the works! And that "Hot Cam Sound" was due to it running on only 6 cylinders, the timing was so far off that it was astonishing it even ran at all and the carb was so maladjusted it was almost criminal. AND both headers were crumbling in my hands and had holes so big I could stick my thumb in them and wiggle it around! New headers, new side pipes, the right kind of plugs, wires, cap and rotor, a BIG timing adjustment and some time diddling the carb settings make it sound like a normal, decent running engine - NO MORE LOPE, no more backfiring and it runs so smooth now you can balance a nickle on the valve cover... :) It sounds totally different now. Just in time to send it off to my mechanic for a long laundry list of items that I just can't do in my barn - like a front end alignment, etc... It took 5 months to get it back from the mechanic - it needed that much love... :)
