During the 1958's version of the confession scene literally the whole room froze! While in the first film, the other girls didn't take her that seriously, maybe because she was just drunk. The 1958 version of Manuela went on full steam ahead with confessing her love for EvB! Although both movies were superb, in my opinion most of the scenes were by far the best in the 1931 version. The only thing the 1958 version does better is the looks the two give, they have more scenes together and they are way more sensual and erotic with one another. And for the 1958 version of the kiss, the looks on the face of EvB and the way Manuela closes her eyes, opens her mouth and goes slightly forward to kiss EvB lips! And she accepts it, mainly because it was just acting for the play but deep down she clearly wanted it to happen! It's a shame really (as Frau Oberin puts it herself) that the 1958's version of EvB is way more reserved, anxious about the whole thing and doesn't really fight with passion for Manuela's well-being compared to the 1931 version.

Beide Verfilmungen haben ihre Stärken aber ich mag die von 1958 lieber. Überzeugender, besser gespielt und auch deutlich authentischer in der Darstellung der Epoche. Lilli und Romy passen gut zusammen.

Mir gefällt die Verfilmung von 1958, mit Romy und Lilli, so viel schöner, besser und authentischer. Lilli Palmer ist viel anmutiger und Romy und Lilli haben doch das bessere großartigste schauspielerische Talent.

Sehr schöner Zusammenschnitt. Ich habe beide Filme gesehen und das Buch gelesen und gestern auch die mexikanische Verfilmung von 1951 angeschaut, auch sehr interessante Umsetzung und mit dem Schluss, dem Buch sehr nahe.
