      Yes! I pay about $800 for car insurance every 6 months but put $1,200 toward student loans every month. Most of that is to interest so it only drops the balance by $100 a month.

    • @the_caffeinated_hustle

      My original goal was to pay them off my 30 --- I am 27 so that likely won't happen. It's $180k but split between 4 loans with different interest rates. I am working on the highest interest rate now and maybe in two years that one will be paid off and start working on the others? I think by 40 they will be paid off completely.

After I graduate though, my goals are to: pay off my credit card & medical debt, improve my credit score, pay off my student loan debt, invest more in my Fidelity Roth IRA & my employer's 401K, and save up for a down payment for my first house!

I eat almost the same thing for breakfast every day, lunch is my biggest meal, and dinner is normally something simple. I also don't snack much. I totally can relate to the part about student loans. I remember thinking someday I’ll have to pay them back but not really fully understanding it. It hits you when you are starting a family or wanting to buy a house ect. I’m in my early 40’s now just starting repayment and I owe about a salary in loans. It’s scary because I would love to have this gone but at the same time retirement is my priority as no one is going to save me. As long as everything is paid off before retirement is the plan. I think it is especially important to have an emergency fund so job layoffs etc especially when the govt shut down happened and all those who followed the DR plan and only had $1000 saved weren’t able to make it until the next paycheck.

    • @the_caffeinated_hustle
      @the_caffeinated_hustle 5 місяців тому

      1,000% agree with everything, especially that "no one is going to save me". That is my exact thought as well, I don't want to be left with nothing after my loans are gone. I never subscribed to DR plan, I always prioritized a high emergency fund because $1k doesn't cover much these days. He has some good points but most are super unrealistic in this day and age.

    • @jacquelinemorris3581
      @jacquelinemorris3581 5 місяців тому

      @@the_caffeinated_hustleYes, my thoughts exactly that I don’t want to be left without anything once loans paid off. I just want to make sure I am ok for retirement. It’s tough having so many competing goals.

    Have you heard about index target retirement funds? They are super low cost for maintenance fees and take out a lot of the stress and guesswork of figuring out what to invest in. They adjust the risk of the assets over time and become more conservative as you reach retirement. Highly recommend!

    I'm currently saving for a move. I do what I call the Sunday Savings Challenge where every Sunday I transfer the amount of the date to my savings bucket. My bank won't let me transfer less than $5 so that's my minimum. I also round up all of my transactions and transfer the round ups to savings every two weeks. So I save for SF each check and sometimes I end up needing to use that SF and may need more than what I put in for that month. For me, all my sinking funds are held in my high-yeild savings accounts. They are sinking funds for specific savings goals. I am completely cashless and move funds as needed. If you are using money from your sinking funds, you would write the total amount you will be using as an inflow and then whatever expense you use it for as the withdrawl. So you need to have an inflow then the out flow.

    Hello! Long time viewer, first time commenting and subscribing (under new budgeting channel name). Welcome back! We all need a break every once in awhile, especially when balancing so many things; so no need to apologize. I really try to edit as little as possible; we’re all human, so no judgement 😉 I started building my real estate portfolio at 26 and l agree, single family over condo 💯 Keep us posted!
