Butterflies of Maine with Dr. Ron Butler
Learn about the butterflies of Maine from expert Dr. Ron Butler, brought to you by Kennebec Estuary Land Trust Virtual Learning Series in March 2024.
As a professor for 35 years in UMaine Farmington’s Division of Natural Sciences, Dr. Ron Butler helped lead three major efforts that rallied community volunteers to gather information about Maine insects - the Maine Damselfly and Dragonfly Survey (1999-2005), the Maine Butterfly Survey (2006-2015), and the Maine Bumble Bee Atlas (2015-2019). He co-authored a book on the butterflies of Maine and the Canadian Maritimes, and is now working on a similar book on damselflies and dragonflies of the region. The book can be purchased here.

Smelt Water Temperature Monitoring Training

This training was led by US Fish and Wildlife Service and KELT on March 9th, 2022 and is intended for KELT smelt volunteers. For our smelt volunteers: at each site, we will be working with you to put in a small metal anchor with a device attached to it that records temperature every 30 minutes. This training shows how to set up the device and how to download data from it.
