Sailing to SUWARROW ATOLL in the Cook Islands| Ep 38
With a good weather forecast, we pulled up anchor at Taha’a and headed west to American Samoa.
As we started out, the seas were big and the winds were strong. We were making good time.
The next morning we got some rain squalls and after that the winds were getting lighter. We had a nice sailing at night. It was almost full moon. the sky was clear, full of stars and we had nice wind .Eventually the wind picked up and it was smooth sailing.
The winds died as we were by Suwarrow so we decide to pull in and get some rest. We anchored just before sunset.
The Suwarrow Atoll It’s a Cook Islands National Park and is one of the most isolated and untouched places you can visit. It is only reachable by boat and a dream destination for sailors.
The next morning we put the dinghy in the water and went ashore to explore. There is really nothing here but palm trees, huge numbers of hermit crabs, colonies of sea birds and rich marine life.
The rest of the days we spent some time exploring some of the other motus in the atoll. The motus are populated with thousands of nesting birds who seem to be unafraid of humans.
We could have stayed anchored at Suwarrow for months, but, as usual, it was time to be on the move and continue our voyage to American Samoa.

As the first winter storm with a large north west swell was approaching we decided to leave the Big Island and head to Hale o Lono Harbor on Molokai which is a safe anchorage in most conditions. The mountains of the Big island blocked the trade winds so we had to motor for 8 hours in the lee of the Big Island before we caught the wind. We sailed through the night and the next evening we arrived...

Wow, this has got to be the cutest voiceover of all the sailing channels I’ve subscribed to! I think I’m subscriber number 510? Keep posting. Looking forwards for new video.
Thank you so much!
Good morning from Nz. That is my favourite atoll. Suwarrow or Suvarrow. Different spelling, same pronunciation. I have Tom Neales book. Fantastic reading. Did you not meet Harry and Tina, the wardens/custodians on Anchorage.??. Sadly in later years, Tom was accused of being a squatter by the Cook Islands govt. However at the time of his residency, it was still governed by Nz. And of course, Tom never caused any problem while at the atoll. I see on the signpost, pointing to areas of the world, it has Auckland Nz, but fails to include Timaru, the place of his birth. Auckland has nothing to do with Tom Neale life according to my research. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I am subscribed to your channel.
Suwarrow was amazing and it was so beautiful too. We are glad we made it there. Thank you so much for subscribing we appreciate it!
you must upload 1440hd video for more view from people around the world , this a video just 720hd

That was intense, epic captain.what was the deal with them kicking you out the anchorage.? One day I hope to be like you and your family !!
I always loved this boat.I used to drive to Buzzard Rock just to see it. I came down and talked to you one evening not too long after you bought it. You really did an awesome job on it. I saw where you ended up selling it for the Cat. I hope the Gold Eagle ended up in good hands. The big Cat will be a great fit for you. Good luck and happy adventures.
Heyyyy!! We met at honomalino bay one day and our kids had a great time playing in the sand. Hope you head back to the big island again, hit us up if you do 🙂🌺
❤ I luv that boat epic helm , beautiful bay 🍻🍻🍻 Great video !!
I hope you got a good deal on that boat as much work as it needed they should have paid you.
What's the maximum mast height to get from Kentucky lake to mobile?
Hi, the maximum height is 50’. Which is Gold Eagles mast height. Be careful and go slow as the water levels rise. We bent the wind indicator off on one bridge.
What kind of a catamaran is that?
It’s a Norman Cross Trimaran
Nice bong
Did you get a new camera? The picture seems improved, more realistic and beautiful Hawaii.
Thank you !! 😊 This was film on my iPhone, the phone camera is so good but I just ordered all new gear so the next episodes going to South Pacific will be wat better quality. Slowly getting better at this but is so fun !
