Joan Tower's Concerto for Orchestra, an adventure in color, illusion, and rhythm! (an audio podcast)
I’m currently playing mahler 1 in orchestra and this really helped me understand this symphony so much more!
7:18 the "Black Key"! My favorite.
Wow, this changed my perspective. Great job! 💡
So Sad Some Stupid Mind Didn’t Value Someone Sp Special ….. 😂And Who And Who’s Creation Is Living and Giving Joy To Humanity ……He - The Composers…….🌞
Beautiful To Learn Music Literature ……..🌞
Love the enthusiasm for this wonderful composer ... a very well- blanced introduction, thank you both!
Cool. ᓚᘏᗢ
Thanks for the breakdown! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
This content is gold. Thank you for putting this out here!
I did not know that Bach wrote music for Vivaldi. Learn something new every day.
"...I was spared the floundering that so many musicians have suffered through incompetent teaching." TRUE .
The quintessential sound of America. 🦅🇺🇸
Why don't you 2 shut up? Blah, blah, at the end...oh wait, only your grandma wants to hear you musplain...😊😅😎
I love your podcast. It’s so informative and interesting. Thank you!🎉❤
Thank you for a wonderful, perceptive discussion!
Some people argue, Cello is more like Human voix, other say, the Viola is 🤷♂️, so always the Diskussion All the best, Kind regards from a Classical Tenor Singer-Violist-Panflutist Collègue, from Black Forest 🇪🇺🇩🇪 to the US 🇺🇸🙋
I’m a conservatoire student from China and I’m currently working on these genius women composers. Germaine Tailleferre is definitely one of the most talented one and largely overlooked, thank you for this broadcast it’s really helpful ❤
God damn! I love Strauss,, thanks for this unique Video.
I have been a Brahms aficionado for years, and this podcast has been so informative for me! Your work has been packed with info about him that I didn't realize until now. Thanks for an excellent timeline of how his works coincided with events in his life. I also loved how you dissected the entrance in the D Minor Concerto (I still think of Gould on that piece, but that's for another day....)
Beep Bop 😄😁👍🏻
The early Beethoven violin sonatas were actually published "For violin or flute".
Thank you so much for this!! I am not a musician, simply a lifelong listener. You brought out so much that I had not noticed or realized before.
These are so good for aspiring composers that want to get to kn ow the instrumentd
I love Patricia Kopatchinskaja's interpretation of this concerto. Especially putting part of the cadenza in the orchestra
Can you Still do an Episode on The Prince of Denmark March, that is my favorite Music Piece by Jeremiah Clark.
I like his 5th most
This these are good very, company when alone!
Why does everything have to relate the Star Wars? Such a degenerate discussion, especially from the lady… “stormtroopers…. Yuck yuck yuck “
I have never heard of any of these Composers or Study their music.
The ear can be pulled in two different directions as it is here. We have a person speaking and in the background,we hear music. Especially when the music is something we are familiar with, the ear focuses on it to the detriment of the speaker’s message. Perhaps some speaking then some music. But not both at the same time.
oh a podcast , i thought--
Speaking about Unfinished music, when I was a child I got my grandmother into loving classical music and my Grandmother and I study about classical music. I learned from my grandmother that Sir Edward Elgar wrote an Unfinished Symphony, his Symphony No. 3 did you know that.
I’m glad this Podcast is back for another great season.
I saw a book on String Quartets and started reading it. Very dense and hard to read. I was always, “who is that composer,” or “what instrument is that?” Not baroque but still baroque-ish. Music to play at home, amateur and/or professional. Fun to play or listen to OR quite professional.
Love from Georgia (country). Hope you"ll never stop making podcasts ❤❤
This version of Florence Price Symphony 1 is my favorite so far. At least my most played. Well besides the Chinekei Orchestra.
It definitely is a superb recording!! It's our favorite as well!
Thank you for this!
The love theme is my Favortie part of the overture.
It may be that the most frequent performances of her music now are those written in conjunction with Desire Dondeyne for wind band (Marche, Suite/Divertimento) as well as a number of excellent transcriptions of her works for band. She is known to have remarked, "If I had known of this ensemble earlier I would have written for nothing else!"
Fabulous, as always, and thank you for mentioning Rachmaninoff, because the first 6 notes of the second theme of the finale (the "big tune" as it were) are almost identical to the first 6 notes of the second theme of the finale (the "Full Moon and Empty Arms" melody) of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto!
I am looking forward at what you have planed for Season Six.
This is great - thank you. 🏆
My Favorite, thanks for explaining....the powerful up-swelling part sounds Russian to my untrained ear's.
Boulanger (analyzing an orchestral score): This is very good, but... where is Piazzola? Piazzola plays a tango. Boulanger: There is Piazzola! ua-cam.com/video/noLazDrdxj0/v-deo.htmlsi=RPUWsZwdkaYJTIGA

thank you for this very interesting podcast!
Love this episode
I loved listening to this. I love Mahler to pieces. Am preparing to perform this, and am diving as deep as I can to understand the music. I loved hearing your perspectives on this. Mahler truly is magnificent.
