Native American Students Respond to American Education
Native Youth are told that they are future leaders of our Nations, yet they often feel unsupported in their communities and within the American education system. We feel honored to share this message from #Kumeyaay youth, as they bluntly tell their reality, truth, hopes and dreams.

Frybread and Survival
Переглядів 2 тис.6 років тому
Let’s talk about frybread. It can be found at almost every gathering and celebration, certainly at every powwow. Songs pay homage to it, t-shirts are emblazoned with “frybread power”, Rez kids argue over whose grandma makes the best frybread. Frybread is a cultural phenomenon linking generation after generation, but it’s complicated. The invention of frybread is synonymous with the introduction...
Largest Two Spirit Pow Wow In The Nation
Переглядів 13 тис.6 років тому

The Bay Area American Indian Two Spirits Pow Wow is held annually in San Francisco to restore and recover the role of Two-Spirit people within the American Indian/First Nations community by creating a forum for the spiritual, cultural and artistic expression of Two-Spirit peop...

Our Indigenous Connections Reach Beyond Borders

Day 8. Canoes left this morning from the Lower Elwha Klallam Nation to paddle across the Straight Of Juan De Fuca to land in Esquimalt, Canada. Some folks chose not to continue on the journey, as the invisible border between The United States and Canada makes it difficult for indigenous people to travel their ancestral highways. Tribal Chairwoman Francis Charles acknowledges that the kinship of...

Thank you for creating this video and thank you to the dancer and singer. My 5 year old son was so awed, and was excited to say what animals he saw created by the movements and the hoops. Even though his Indigenous roots are from another culture, seeing your videos and photos makes him proud and happy. That is a beautiful gift, thanks!

When the Russians went back to Russia their Aleut families happily went too. The Aleuts are still in Russia and remember Aleut languages, stories and dances and families. i believe there more Aleuts in Russia now than are in Alaska. They are still the same.

This is the message I was hearing from Native Americans, so I use my platform and sphere of influence as a white middle teacher, I am doing my best to directly make room for the voices from LIVING Native Americans, especially those from teens whom my students can relate to & disrupts their stereotypes about Native Americans. Also, I grew up in Alaska, so my teaching work also includes demystifying Alaska & the lives of the indigenous people who live there today.

I’m half Aleut (father’s side) and this made me cry. I don’t know my history because he died when I was a kid and my family doesn’t speak of what happened to my grandmother and the losses my family suffered through. I longed so much to learn my history and it’s videos like this that help.

There are so many indeginious people in New York City from Mexico, Central and South America. It's weird how you never invited and ignored them. But that's not surprising, there seems to be some sort of willful denial of the massive amount of non mainstream native peoples that are very traditional, speak their own languages first, are basically unmixed and recognizably pre conquest, and not from the USA. Why is this so? If folks want to see native peoples that are not as assimilated as to be imperceptible and ethnically vague, there are many vlogging on UA-cam directly from the Amazon, Mexico, Peru , the Navajo Nation and many other nations to start a true enlightening journey with. If this wasn't too meet them in person go to Spanish Harlem, Queens and Brooklyn in NYC and take a look at the future of Native America.

you bring back the pride I had when my baby girl now 41 worked for the Seattle Times and Indian country today. Her name is Nancy Kelsey-Carroll. She used to for amusement rate the movies coming out of holly wood as to a scale she created, as 1 FRYBREAD for not so good to a 5 FRYBREAD rating for superior work. She and Tetona Dunlap of the Kansas city star both graduates of Omaha's Creighton University worked in print news.... before the floor fell out of print journalism. Happy to see here this documentation of a very important topic..us Indians
