There are ebbs and flows in the luxury sector. Some of these fashion houses date back to the 19th century. They’ll likely figure it out, so all the handwringing and super reactionary videos claiming ‘LUXURY IS DEAD!1!1!!’ is kinda silly.

Omg you have this down 100% all these things I have experienced it’s super annoying to be stuck with an SA. Sometimes they are just talking talking talking way tooooooo much sharing personal crap I don’t want to hear !

I find it interesting on how different luxury boutioperate so differently. For example, if I see something on the website and want my local SA to have the commission and text her to order it for me, I am charged shipping. If I order it from another SA I've started working with in another part of the country, it is shipped to me free of charge. I started shopping at this other boutique in my frustration with the constant lack of merchandise in my local boutique. I miss going in just to look around. Now I feel I must have a specific item in mind to purchase when I make my appointment with my local SA or I'm wasting her time if I just want to browse and see items in person. A very good video!! 💕💖 Thank you! I agree with you on so many levels! I believe that many of the brands are lying. I don’t believe that they don’t have inventory. Many ex Sale Associates have turned into whistle blowers and have admitted that for example, at Hermès stores, the basements are full with Birkins, Kellys etc, in different colors and sizes. I guess that they all just want to create this illusion of scarcity and exclusivity. 🤷‍♀️

I’m a last minute shopper! 😂 I hate making appointments with my SA’s. Personally the fun was to just wake up and decide to go shopping, I also ended up finding my best pieces that way. Now, it’s not fun, the perks don’t even make it for me, I’m still stuck in a system that doesn’t work for my shopping style. And quite frankly the rtw is the most frustrating part, no wonder I barely buy it. I prefer to shop online now, I don’t need the non experience that luxury boutiques are offering now. I have more fun with the contemporary brands for my clothes.

Luxury brands are for broke people. I agree with the annoying sales associate concept but luxury brands are a scam. It’s also not safe to carry a Chanel or Birkin anymore. Robberies are running rampant. I’d rather have my 10k in investments than on a bag. I’ve sold almost all my luxury designer bags with the exception of 2 classic flaps.

I appreciate your perspective as a customer. Luxury fashion companies prefer to cut spendng on operations. The budget is more flexible for marketing, merchandising, and shows, but they are always looking to save on operations. The understaffing and limited resources and options available to operations personnel is a problem and contracting/outsourcing usually creates larger issues (the explanation would be an essay haha). Unfortunately, as essential as supply chain is to any luxury fashion company, it is not a source of revenue but one of the largest costs and they want to spend as little as possible. Also sustainability initiatives are an ever increasing factor as many companies are reorganizing to do their part.

Totally agree! Love the rant!! Such a different experience now and for the worst :( I miss the spontaneity of a luxury "drop in" day. Now my luxury purchases are more planned and not as fun. I think most luxury houses make it much harder to purchase and inventory is bad. I love my luxury shopping but it's not the same!

This was a very informative video. I can relate to trying on clothes and they want you to buy what you tried on instead of getting a new item from the back. Also, don’t get me started about shoes - I do not buy what I tried on, that’s always a no for me.

I am not ever going to prioritize purchasing luxury (although I love watching videos of those who do), and what I do purchase tends to mostly be preloved. I do agree that as an infrequent buyer, I feel intimidated going in store. I am very much a browse, go home and think about it, then go back and buy later person so it is not an ideal shopping experience for me. Having said that, I do occasionally buy. Having someone assigned doesn't feel luxurious to me. It just feels like a sales tactic to get me to buy more than I want. I get that some people love the personal attention, but as a fellow introvert, I like to do my own thing but have sales associates available when I do want to ask questions.

You are such a good observer and literally took the words of out my mouth. I lament my SAs do not know my 'style' well. I still prefer shopping in person so that I know what I take home and not have to reject imperfections. If SAs can't understand the basics by knowing their clients' preference, their income can only rise and fall with the economy.

It's too dangerous to wear it. Now that Trump has been elected, we may be able to return to what it used to be.

I got my 1st Birkin in 2010 as a walk in with no pre-spend, I got my 2nd in 2019 also as a walkin, I had purchased things at this point but not with a a specific SA. Now I have been spending with one SA (dishes, scarves, ready to wear, shoes, etc) and it seems like I won’t be getting another. Lol Unfortunately there is no store where I live so I’m tasked with just trying to ask for one when I travel to a place. If anyone wants to share their SA please do with me. 😅

Do you know if non-quota bags provide the SAs with commissions? Or how does accepting a non-quota bag impact receiving a quota bag?

I’m interested in a path that doesn’t involve working w the same SA over a long amount of time. I just don’t click well w most of them maybe because I take it personally when they don’t have the bag I want (not quotas so far but I did mention I wanted a birkin eventually and my assigned SA said she “didn’t know about that” without even hearing out the kind, only to never even allocate a mini evie for me). Never met one who I felt liked me and would go out of their way to make the visit fun and fruitful. I met one on vacation out of town and She was lovely (surprised me a a Pegase to go with my non quota bag in the colors I asked for) but I can’t imagine traveling just to hopefully maybe buy a bag. I’d be so bummed for it not to work out. Thanks for being honest about the last point, people online who get birkins act like bought a $700 pair of sandals or a scarf or something and they didn’t have to visit over and over again to prove themselves. well yeah I’d feel loved too if I didn’t have to troll a boutique to get the bags I want. I just get the vibe they don’t really care about my business except the gal in Vegas. my h says I should make Vegas my home store but we aren’t going to go 4 times a year to shop lol

I really thought the flamenco was ugly until I saw it on Zendaya in challengers which led me to try it on instore. I was absolutely shocked how much I loved it. The leather speaks for itself especially if you try a yummy color. The mini is the absolute perfect easy reach. I highly recommend you try it before making a final decision! 💖

My Chanel 22 is my absolute favorite from Chanel, and I have a big collection. 🙊That bag holds up so well, I throw it around and there’s not a sign of wear and tear on it! It’s unbelievable. But I’m the type that doesn’t like very structured bags. I would never get a Birkin in sellier, heck I don’t even like the Kelly in sellier. My most used is my Kelly25 retourne. I’m in peace with my preferences now, I made my mistakes ( many of them😂) now I go for the slouchy, smoochy bags! 🩷
