    • @thenicholasrossacademy

      Yes it is-And you can get a really high mark with the present simple-I recommend my students to use the present simple if the are not confident enough with the past simple. This year, all of my students got very high marks in the writings, so don't worry, using the present simple well can get you a really high mark!

    • @thenicholasrossacademy
      @thenicholasrossacademy 2 місяці тому

      HI, in the B1 article you do not need to write a conclusion. That structure is more suitable for an Essay, but you can write a concluding sentence at the end of your article if you want to. For the article you need to make sure that you answer the exam questions. If you want, you can write an introduction introducing the topics you are going to talk about. Then talk about the two or three topics and finish with a concluding sentence. There is no "correct" structure for an article, maybe look at this video and my other videos on article writing and see what works best for you.

      Yes, this one is also useful. All of the structures are effective, so you need to pick the structure that you think is best for you and your writing. The structure in this video is the same as this: ua-cam.com/video/ZzLddiNbZsU/v-deo.htmlsi=YhIf0sb5E3NZlRvx they both focus on topic sentences.

While I have a lot of experience writing and editing exams for various publishers, I have never worked as a Cambridge examiner correcting writing exams. However, I have worked as a Cambridge speaking examiner, so I am familiar with their marking criteria. I can confidently guess that the sample answer in this video would easily reach a B2 level of writing in the B1 exam.

    Sir, i have to take the test tomorrow. I want to know that do I have to indent the first line of every paragraph? I'd be happy if you reply,sir. Also, if there are two questions, i only have to write two paragraphs,right sir ?

    • @thenicholasrossacademy
      @thenicholasrossacademy 5 місяців тому

      Hi! For the first line of each paragraph you can just answer the exam questions (keep it simple). For example, in the exam questions from this video, for the first question you can just write: I love watching comedy films because they make me laugh a lot. In the second question you could just write: My friends and I have a similiar sense of humour, so I enjoy laughing with them the most! With reference to your last point-sure! If there are only two questions, then just write two paragraphs with more information. Make sure you remember to answers the questions and DON'T include any information that is not related to the questions. Good luck with your exam! Let me know how it went!

    hello sir I had today my exam in B1 preliminary and I wanted to ask you about the writing part. Is it something bad if I wrote more than 100 words? So I wrote my Email abiut like 170 words. I answered all the questions but I just write it like usual how we do it in class. In my class level we are familiar to write long text and in the article part the same thing I wrote also there like 200 words because I liked very much the topic about the article and I just put my opinion and all the things there. Do you think that will make a difference when they correct it? Thank you very much for your response!

      Hi there, Firstly, if I assess your writing skills based on the message you have sent me, I'd like to say congratulations! If you wrote like this in the exam, you will easily achieve a B1 level! There are some improvements that you could make in this message, but I can see that you are progressing well and your writing skills are headed in the right direction! Regarding your questions about the official exam and the word count per activity, this should not be an issue. The word counts are provided as guidelines. The most important thing is to make sure that you answer all of the main points. So, even though you have gone over the word limit, this should not affect your mark. The only time it may affect your mark is if some of the information you have written is not related to the question. In the future, when preparing for B2, maybe try to stick to the word limit a little more and try to be as succinct (say more with less) as possible. Please let me know when you recieve your results, I am sure you'll pass! Summary-you will be ok! All the best, The Nicholas Ross Academy
