    Churchill and his economic advisors, especially Lord Keynes, lost everything to the Americans at the Bretton Woods conference in 1944 that established the post-war economic order. He, not Atlee's Labour Party, agreed to bankrupt England. The common British soldier voted overwhelmingly for Labour, having been fed up with the upper-class officers who lorded it over them during the war. Yet despite Britain's bankrupt treasury after the war, Labour bravely passed the National Health Care Act that is the most revered legislation in all British history, and they began the winding down of empire that Churchill so stupidly wanted to maintain. The simple fact was, England couldn't possibly afford to maintain that empire. About the only thing Churchill was actually good at was language, and his highly biased 6 volume account of the Second World War won him the Nobel Prize for literature.

    "We must make Ireland Hell for the IRA to operate in!!! Churchill on the creation of the 'Black-and-Tans', and The 'Auxies' former soldiers and officers, respectively employed under Police, and direct Government control discipline. Any Irish living in the period would describe their making "Ireland Hell" for Irish people to LIVE IN! Even their commanders found it impossible to dismiss the worst elements! Their recommendations were always overruled by Dublin Castle bureaucrats!

    Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya was a true heroine, she beat Meningitis at 17 and became a Soviet Heroine at 18. Her younger brother Alexander was a tank commander and it was he who avenged her death and he did it in style breaking through the Nazi defences which lead to the Nazi unit being wiped out. One of the (few) prisoners they took was found to be carrying photos of Zoya on his person so I imagine he didn't live very long! Zoya said alot of things something along the lines of "There's 250 million of us you can't hang us all!" and when she told her mother that she was going behind enemy lines her mother asked why she was doing this, Zoya replied "If they come here I won't be able to live" She inspired so many people with what she did.

    The Mensur still exists in Germany Austria and Switzerland. But please be noted that the Mensur was strictly forbidden in the third Reich. Even fraternities were forbidden in that time because their structures were purely democratic. So yes the officers had them but got those prior of the Third Reich.

    • @know4ever
      @know4ever 4 місяці тому

      It is a little more complex than that. The Nazis had a problem with universities as a whole, but the sport was actually promoted within the Nazi hierarchy by Reinhard Heydrich (a high-ranker of the SS), and actively recruited accomplished fencers into the SS.

  • @asek911
    @asek911 4 місяці тому

    You gotta make a difference between different kinds of “Verbindung” / fraternities. Most of the German fraternities don’t do that and there actually is a Law against that kind of “mensur”. So they cover it up by declaring it as a kind of sport. Check your facts first

    • @daniellaubinger6309
      @daniellaubinger6309 4 місяці тому

      There is no strict law against the mensur. Please check your facts first. The law that exists only prohibits so called “honor duels”. Since the Mensur is not meant to fight for honor, the Mensur is allowed.

    • @know4ever
      @know4ever 4 місяці тому

      Your engagement is apreciated! The video tells a short story of students of "the 19th and early 20th-century" universities, when Mensur was legal. Nowadays, from my knowledge, it still exists in different forms: "Pflichtschlagend", "Nichtschlagend", and "Fakultativ schlagend", with some poiting some distinctions between "Fakultativ schlangend" and "Freischlagend", form which I will cover in a longer video. Even though the "honor codex" has probably (I imagine) changed drastically, there are some fraternities that still practice fencing to this day.

  • @know4ever
    @know4ever 4 місяці тому

    Did you know about those practices or did you think they were all battle scars? ⚔

  • @dizzi3272
    @dizzi3272 4 місяці тому

    These trations are still partially practiced and performed. Not with the intention to preserve the scars or to get one in the first place anymore, but the Mensur still exists and is being practiced in Verbindungen, like for example Burschenschaften or Corps, which are fraternity like groups of students that still keep and teach these traditions of learning how to fence and have to fight at least one Bestimmungsmensur if you want to be a full on member in it. If there are further questions towards this topic, I can try answering them with my knowledge about them. I am currently in one of these Verbindungen and have myself experience towards this exact topic. I haven't fought my first mensur yet, but I still know how it works and have seen one with my own eyes.

      Thank you for the adonation. That is so cool that you're part of a "fraternity" with such a history. I know about the "Deutsche Burschenschaft" and actually thinking to go more in-depth about the subject with a longer video. In which city is the Verbindung that you are part of?
