      @@TheThrillOfBecoming I hope you love it! Ok. Overly complicated explanation incoming. Sometimes I don't know how to express my feelings for a book via a rating. Nonfiction can be tricky to find a rating for because it may be super interesting or impactful, but for some reason it doesn't feel like it belongs in a one to five rating. Long story short, vibes that are indecipherable to anyone but myself lol.

    I refuse to read Hidden Pictures after seeing Beautifully Bookish Bethany;s review. I have not read the Wendy books because I saw horrible reviews BUT Richard Chizmar did write a good book, Chasing the Boogeyman, which I enjoyed. I DNF'd Remains of the Day, boring. Books I didn't care for include Howl's Moving Castle, Colorado Kid, Live Wire, A Wrinkle in Time, Doll Bones, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, My Best Friend's Exorcism, The Wizard of Earthsea, Edgar and the Flyboys, The Boatmore Butcher and Every Heart a Doorway.

  • @lauragillis4684
    @lauragillis4684 Рік тому

    I just finished Every Heart a Doorway and I was not impressed. Don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't read it but the premise, lack of therapy and blatant disregard for how the world works put this in the never going to continue with the series category. Really did not like The Boatmore Butcher, what killer sits in a bathroom watching his next victim sleep for hours and then kills him at a gonna scare you moment. Stoopid. In a previous video you mentioned your dislike for Amazon, I have my own, but I'm interested in your thoughts.

    • @idontkwhatimdoing
      @idontkwhatimdoing Рік тому

      I haven't read Every Heart a Doorway, but I'll keep your thoughts in mind the next time I'm tempted! In general any mega corporation I try to avoid when possible, but they're everywhere and make themselves the most convenient so it's hard. But I also hate how Amazon prices books so low that it drives a lot of business away from small retailers. It's shady capitalism and while expected, it still impacts most book retailers negatively.

    The "they are related" trope done well was in a book we read for school (Nathan der Weise - by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing). It brought all characters nicely together and helped them reunite as a "found family"

      @@idontkwhatimdoing I have a fondness for the book, because it was good, compared to other stuff we had to read for school, but I don't know if I would recommend it. It was written in like the seventeenhundreds or earlier and is set around the crusades around Israel and people of different beliefs

    I am so glad that I came across your channel when I was looking for lists of the best books people read from last year and why you do not have more subscribers is beyond me! I am happy to be your 5th and you deserve many more! I loved that you did a 10-1 countdown of your favorite books that you read this year and I really admired how you made your way through this list and made ALL of these books sound so engaging. I did not read any of these, but I have heard amazing things about Kindred and American Psycho, as well as My Heart is a Chainsaw. At some point, I will need to at least read Kindred and American Psycho. Gory Details brings up an interesting point, because then we can develop a naturalist argument and talk about "what defines something being gross and disgusting?" and "to whom?" Many of these books I have not heard about, but after you spoke about them, I want to look into them some more and perhaps read them myself. Funny enough, all of the best books that I read last year were nonfiction. Thank you for sharing! -Josh
