overall weather was good, not a lot of rain and temperatures were cool that far north. The bad part was we could not get used to daylight 24 hours/day for 11 days. We had an ocean view room and couldn't block out sun very well. The ocean was very smooth even out in open waters (I think it is normally rough in the open waters this far north?). The ship was very good and the food was very good with good variety, friendly crew, and good entertainment, easy to get around.

No, you can normally see northern lights when it is dark in winter. We had daylight 24/7.

It was a good trip. I would recommend taking excursions (we only did a couple) it will make the trip more interesting. The areas in Norway were a bit desolate. We had travelled to Antarctica in January and wanted to do upper Norway (Antarctica is much more interesting to us). Iceland is great and you should love it (you need excursions to appreciate and see the beauty). Hope you have a great time.

@@CarlosRodriguez-dw7ot the cruise ship offers excursions but they sell out fast Viator.com sometimes have excursions but make sure you have plenty of time to get back to ship.

I think you will have a great time. Port (left) side will allow views of land as you travel, but either side is ok. If you can you should upgrade to balcony, viewing whales penguins and overall scenery will be great, l know the cost of upgrading will be high for that many days. If you can’t you can find common areas to sit inside and still enjoy. Get a cheap zoom camera and you will appreciate taking pictures. Hope you have a great time.

The price was very good. The communications were not so good, I had trouble knowing the schedule, times and locations to meet. We had one issue with train return at midnight and we had paid extra for the glass dome view, but they did reschedule the return earlier (9:00pm still dark). But overall the schedules worked out very well, and I would use them again. Travel now is kinda overwhelming, it is really busy and crowded and lots of delays and last minute changes... good luck.

After I got home I read about 4 women that were chosen to run the post office there! I’m so excited to see your post!

Yes, it was the resort where we stayed that arranged the tour. They picked us up at our condo.

If you like to see penguins up close, I highly recommend the Bluff Cove Tour on Falkland Islands. Have a good trip, we loved it, better than what we expected.

I loved this video. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll be going on a 22 day South America and Antarctica cruise with Holland America beginning Dec 15, 2024. So excited! I’ll be doing the Bluff Cove excursion as well and I really enjoyed your clips of the penguins there. Loved watching the penguins on the iceberg hopping into the ocean and back up. You managed to get pretty close up. What camera or phone did you use?

It is cool (60 deg F) during the day and can get cold at night (40 deg F). But when I was there, it was very unusually cold, it actually snowed (but that was not normal).

It was like a fairy tale from a story book. You will not believe how we ended up here, I booked a really cheap package from USA to Ireland. The total cost for 7 nights with flights, rental car, bed and breakfast was less than $2000. We had 3 locations already picked for us to stay (1 night included Ashford the other 2 were near Shannon and Dublin airports) and 4 nights we could choose our bed and breakfast stays which allowed us to pick our route as we covered as much of Ireland as we could. Of course our favorite location was Ashford and it had a wonderful buffet breakfast (free with this package). They treated us like Royalty! This was back in 2017. I occasionally see a package that includes a night at Ashford, and I would highly recommend it. We used Aer Lingus for the tour package, but I'm sure it would be a lot more now?

For high altitude we got (acetazolamide) pills from our Dr. before we went, and still had some issues in Cuzco (over 11,000 feet). If you are used to high altitude you shouldn't have a problem. Don't drink water, only bottled water/drinks, no ice. We even used bottled water to brush teeth, and had no sickness. Food is really cheap and good (make sure it is cooked, stay away from fruits and vegs washed with their water). We had to wear 2 masks most everywhere, and on train had to also add a face shield (they have them for about $1.00), but it may be more relaxed now? We had a great time and people are very friendly and area is a great place to visit.

you are correct, back then (6 years ago) I had a $30 toy drone with very limited capabilities. I would love to go back with one of my DJI drones now. Thanks for the comment.
