What transmission???? I hear 5 gears. I am doing this same engine swap and was going to use a Chevy 4 speed behind it but wouldn't mind a 5 speed if knew what you used.
Good ear! It has an NV3500 from a Dakota. I would keep an eye out for a 5 or 6 speed for sure. You’ll definitely want overdrive with the limited rpm range. My adapter is from Phoenix Castings to go from SAE #4 to small block mopar. Look into QuickDraw adapters. They have many options for most transmissions.
@@moparshark thanks for the info! I was planning on going to a Chevy 4 speed to a 205 transfer case out to some dana 60 axles in an attempt to keep it all GM based.
Pretty awesome man! I’ve been debating on what diesel swap to play with in my 79 CJ . I’ll probably get one of the 304’s running while I figure it out but I sure would love a Detroit 2 stroke in it .
Rae simps The injection pump is mounted to the block and ran off the camshaft so I don’t believe you can change that timing. You can loosen the two penta-lobe bolts and rotate the plunger to balance each injector to one another. I had a no start issue that was caused by the fuel control rack being stuck in the off position. If you pull the shutoff solenoid and look in there with a mirror and that rod should slide freely.
It's mike again I'd love to see pics and I can send you pics on all my stuff as well I pretzeled the model 20 rear instantly in mine that why the dana 60s now just curios on your gearing and tire size I'm running 35s with 456s I can cruze on flat ground 70-75 no prob but up hills I'm in 4th doing 50 :/ not ideal I really need to run the rack and tune it right but I know nothing on how to do it love to talk to ya you can text me or call my number is 425 260 4309
Very cool swap bud I'd like to talk to you about it I swapped a 353 aluminum block in my cj7 with an nv4500 tranny dana 300 4-1 low max twin stick and narrowed dana 60s in it runs great but I still have a few bugs to work out my email is mike8cyl@yahoo so please email me so we can share info thanks :)mike

WHAT TRANSMISSION DO YOU HAVE WITH YOUR DETROIT , ?? THANKS
what transmission did you use behind the Detroit?
For real
What all did you have to do to fit it in? Like trans adapter, ect
gamma goat engine :) 353T is light and can sing 3,500 RPM
1985 jeep cj7's have factory power steering. all of them. not all 3-53's are heavy. lots of them have aluminum blocks.
The Gama goat 353 is aluminum.. still weights 900+lb.... which is pretty heavy.

Absolutely love your rig! One of these days I would love to do a very similar swap.
Took about two months of weekend work, had to fabricate all the mounts but not too bad.
sweet man was it a hard too swamp in the 353?
