What I learnt from teaching my art workshop | Life of an Artrepreneur - Episode 27
A few weekends ago, I taught my art workshop to a group of 6 people. This is the first workshop I planned and prepped completely by myself.
In this episode I talk about the main things I learnt from putting on an event like this, things I'd do differently next time, whether workshops are a profitable avenue to go down for an artist and whether I'll be putting on anymore.
I hope you enjoy this episode!

i have a cockapoo😊
This has been very helpful!
You are amazing ♥ The layering is incredible. I've learnt so much from this video collection, not least of which is that to make this sort of art you have to be patient, and that every detail is so important. Thank you so much. Look forward to now watching Part 4 !!
@@lynmasterton aw thank you so much!! I’m glad you enjoyed drawing the bumblebee and feel like you’ve learnt something 😊 I hope you enjoy part 4, it’s an opportunity to be a bit looser with the flowers 🥰
@@beccabarronart Yes I absolutely did watch Part 4, and loved every second ♥
Well done Becca.
@@Donalsart thank you 😊
Great work Becca bravo...
Awesome
I love every second of this !
This was useful info thank you! I’m too much of a social recluse to run my own workshop right now haha but I would love to attend one sometime for sure
@@shaymusart thanks for watching! I feel you 😂 I’m the same sometimes, but I just force myself to go for it. I would 100% come to one of your workshops! Your skill is off the charts xx
I absolutely love this video, yes please do more like this ♥
I just love the shine to the fur!! The eyes are so reflective, and the whole drawing is just deep with value!!
@@DaphnesAlaskanArt aw thank you so so much! I loved drawing this one 🥰✍🏼
Your skill with a pencil is beyond impressive. Such a magnificent piece!
@@pinkuarts-2024 thank you so much!! Really appreciate your lovely message 😊✍🏼
My favourite pencils are Derwent lightfast, out of them all,but are expensive.
Will you make a tutorial on this or not? I found your cheetah tutorial very useful

Well done 👏
Lovely video Becca and those booklets are beautiful😍😍
@@florlovestodraw aw thank you so much Flor!! Spent way too long making them look pretty 😂🥰
@@beccabarronart haha all worth your time! And i would too if i were you😂
I think it's really interesting to be honest. I agree with everything you have said and I have said this too for people to use it as a tool instead of being dead set against it. However I do feel for artists that work or have worked for the big companies like animators for example as unfortunately these big companies aren't going to care that it takes away from the human element and will eventually replace people with AI and that is the sad part. I saw a video on this the other day and basically the way of the future will be for most artists to take the plunge into starting their own business, doing their own animation projects, taking commissions etc instead of waiting to be hired in this new AI world they can make their money that way instead. I thought that was interesting to. As no matter what unfortunately AI isn't going to go anywhere if anything it is going to progress it may take years but it will eventually progress and the way artists move forward is to move with the times, be way more creative then anything AI can do as most are and in turn ART as a whole will become much more valuable again as in an AI world people will appreciate handrawn and handmade things a lot more then now.
@@Mysticsfineart that’s so true! Love the last point you made, that art drawn by hand and created my humans will become more valuable. I agree, let’s hope it goes that way! 🥰
@@beccabarronartI hope so too! ❤
Oh this was interesting! I have never even thought to use it in the ways you mentioned. What program did you use for the mock ups? X
Ooooo looking forward to seeing the final workshop - I'm putting on my own workshop and your content has been SO helpful! ❤
@@Anna-MarieTheArtist aw I’m so glad this video has helped! And best of luck with your workshop! I’m sure it’ll go well🥰
@beccabarronart oh thanks! It'll be a Christmas workshop in December drawing a little Robin - a word pleaser, I mean who doesn't love a robin! Just the nervous ticket sale to go! Xx
@@Anna-MarieTheArtist oh that’ll be so cute!! People can’t resist a Christmas Robin, so I’m sure you’ll have no troubles at all selling tickets. It is nerve wracking hoping the tickets will sell when it’s your first workshop, but don’t worry they’ll sell! Keep posting about it and you’ll be fine 🥰 xx
Interesting subject Becca, thank you for the video. A I useful in some ways but cannot replace the human hand, just my humble opinion.
@@Kathy.Thorne totally agree Kathy! Thanks for listening 🥰
AI is going to usher in a grand revolution in scientific research especially physics and biology. However, I do not think that AI can do what an artist does. Artists don't have to represent what they see or read, they can express their craft in a truly unique way that reflects some of how the artists feels about a suject. AI is great for many things but I really don't think it will replace subjective interpretation. For now anyway, I think artists still have a leg up on AI generated art.
@@jamesbentonticer4706 really well said! 👏🏼 Great point and very true
So interesting!! Thanks Becca for sharing.
@@madelinemandy8205 thanks for watching 😊
Hi Becca, I've been using Arches hot pressed WC paper for both graphite and colored pencils, but I always feel like my crisp lines soak into the paper and the drawings get slightly blurry, no matter what I do. I use polychromos, and it just seems like the paper grabs the oil, and even graphite, and spreads it slightly around, so I can never get those really crisp lines. I often have to go back and add more color after a day or two, as well. Is the blurriness normal for 100% cotton WC papers, or should I try a different paper, like Fabriano?
@@yuleassagai1684 hello! I’ve tried the arches hot pressed watercolour paper once, for quite a large commission, and I found the same. I think you’ll find that the extra white hot pressed Fabriano Artistico keeps the vibrancy and it’s a much easier surface to blend on, but still has enough tooth for plenty of layers x
@@beccabarronart thanks for the reply, that's very interesting, and I'm relieved to hear it's not just me. Such a strange effect. You would think pencils like polychromos could not fade and be blurry like that, but I guess the paper is gonna do what the paper wants to do ;) I will try Fabriano. Best wishes!

What a cute subject ❤ hope it all went well. I heard somebody else mention that when you have used up a roll of dog poop bags the little cardboard inner tube works really well as a pencil extender 😂 I tried it and it does work 😝 funny fact x
