Renegades are expensive and unreliable. The big guys have their negatraits and their players all have animosity other than linemen. Moreover, if their coach is putting all of their SPP in to the dark elf then none of the other players are getting the skills they need to help prop up that elf. On offense, Renegades use the big guys on their vanguard to push forward and secure the pocket for their ball carrier. They want to keep moving so the defense wants to try to slow them down. That's a lot easier with lizards, orcs, etc. who have access to ST4. Otherwise, it can be easier to just wait for the Renegades to make a mistake on their inherently risky die rolls. On defense, Renegades still have the big guys applying pressure in the center of the line but are then using their other players to screen out the pitch (to keep the offense near those big guys) Then, if the offense tries to avoid the big guys down the wide zones, they'll get stopped by the screen and the big guys will pull toward the ball to apply big time pressure. If the offense is AG/speed based then retreating on the first turn and making the Renegade defend come toward the offense is a great way to safely stall before engagement. It's a bonus if the big guys fail a die roll on trying to move forward. Play solid fundamentals and allow the Renegades coach to make mistakes. Inevitably, a big guy is going to fail a die roll. Those mistakes are your opportunity to start cutting his players away from the ball carrier. The Rat Ogre is an important piece to look at since Animal Savegery means he can always get his action at the cost of his own players. That's a double-edged sword that you should always be mindful of exploiting. If and when you get a block on the dark elf, it might be a good idea to foul him. It's a great piece in and of itself and if all of the Renegade team's TV is tied up in that one player then removing it means they've lost the majority of their team's value. Good luck!
