Really lovely video. Obviously talented, as he progressed, his nerves settled and it become obvious to me as one with no talent in singing that he forgot about everyone else in the room and it was just the two of them. I hope he continued his singing. Also can never come to terms with the standard of his English. Well done young man, a real pleasure to have watched you.

This video just saved me from quitting training to become a countertenor. I sound just like the guy in this video and with similar problems only that i don't have a Vocal teacher who is as patient and experienced as David Lowe is. I just began singing 7 months ago (I just turned 18 and i use to have a female speaking and singing voice till i was 16 although the female speaking voice kicks in once in a while 😂) and it's really difficult most times to even find my countertenor voice and it most cases it's cracking (because it's weak and I'm scared or unsure of the quality of sound i produce) . Just like the boy in this video most people will say "use your male voice" but then what the voice teacher said in this video touched me deeply he said " you choose the voice that you feel most expressive in" and that's exactly how i feel when i use my falsetto/headvoice. Kudos to the young lad in this video i understand how difficult this was for him and I'm thankful that he had a wonderful teacher who is not only helping him in whichever way he (the young boy) chooses but is also encouraging him.

Alfred Deller notwithstanding, I think that generally male altos and countertenors are more effective when they are naturally high voices rather than baritones singing in their falsetto register. The voices are more natural in timbre and just stronger. By contrast, the baritones seem to be wasting their time...just sing baritone instead. If you look on line and follow their careers, boy sopranos seem to end up as natural countertenors or light tenors in one group, and baritones in the other.

This was recorded a long time ago, and perhaps no one cares any more, but contrasting this singer's fairly weak falsetto countertenor with his resonant bass speaking voice, I would like to hear him sing in his natural bass (bass-baritone?) voice. The strengthening of the head voice that comes from singing as a countertenor would be helpful in the upper register of the bass-baritone voice...sounds like a strong natural voice...

WELL done , that's not an easy song to sing at the best of times. Also English isn't your first language, so that makes it even more special. You have certainly got lots and lots of talent,,so keep singing, you have got a very good voice, you are going to be a very good singer. It does take a lot of hard work, but Inam SURE you will do very well as you study and sing more and more.
