This is just one more claim that brain activity produce the mind, the mechanistic viewpoint. It does not represent the vitalist viewpoint, that the mind, or consciousness, is primary and actually produces brain activity, or the view of panentheism, which is that consciousness is everywhere throughout Universe, and that everything has consciousness along with matter, energy, space and time, the 5th Element, Quintessence. The problem is that you can't dissect the brain and find experience anywhere. NO ONE, not cognitive scientists, neuroscientists, or neuroanatomists, have a clue HOW brain activity "produces" conscious experience. They can identify, as this book does, that there are correlates between brain and mind, and there are some weak theories, but there is absolutely no certainty about how a bunch of neurons, networks, and glial cells and produce awareness, thought, or direct personal experience.

I wrote a paper on Edward Bernays for a communications class, 50 yrs ago. Worth a look at his accomplishment! We are who we are by his discovery about propaganda. Blessings to all!
