Yeah, it most definitely did. Got rid of all of the series core appeal/cool factor to appeal to non fans. Sonic was never supposed to be a lighthearted comedy nor were the characters supposed to be portrayed like that. Gameplay's boring too.

Whenever I hear people complaining about Sonic Colours, I can't help but think about all the things people were complaining about back in the so called dark age of Sonic. It was like Sega were desperately trying to appease the whiniest of complaints. People complained about the more light hearted story? Not that long ago people were complaining about games like 06, Shadow the Hedgehog, Unleashed, heck even the Adventure series, for "taking itself too seriously!" People were constantly complaining about how this series is nothing more than a silly franchise for dumb little kids who are too young to play "more grown up games", and the fact that it stars colourful cartoon animals in white gloves automatically means that you CAN'T have any semblance of seriousness in the story without it coming off as try-hard and cringey. People complain about Sonic being the only playable character. I'm going to show my age hear, but I have heard people complaining about practically every single solitary supporting character in the Sonic series since the introduction of Tails! Even in games where the characters are portrayed well and actually impact the story in a meaningful way, haters and detractors were still always whining "Urgh, Sonic's stinky friends! They're useless and annoying! Don't like 'em! GET RID OF 'EM!" Crap like that is ultimately teaching Sega that there is literally no point in using these characters to their full potential, because people will still hate on them regardless. People complain that it's too much 2D when it should be more 3D! Are you kidding me? Can you think of a single 3D Sonic game that hasn't been nitpicked to death for any and every petty thing that deviates from Sonic's 2D roots? If anything, Colours was Sega's desperate attempt at changing the series purely to appease the most petty and nitpicky of complaints that the series has had over the years. I can understand people not liking these decisions, but seriously people, don't act like this just came out of nowhere! If there's an aspect about the Sonic series that you enjoy but haven't seen for a while; blame all of the haters, detractors and overly critical critics whining "WAAHH, DON'T LIKE IT, GET RID OF IT OR I'M NEVER PLAYING ANOTHER SONIC GAME EVER AGAIN, REEEEEE!" Sega apparently thinks that their opinions are more valid than more positive FANS of this series.

The thing that could break thier arguments is that when you ask them what levels do they replay in sa1 or sa2 it’s 90% the sonic levels with maybe the other characters sometimes but Mostly they replay sonic which proves that he’s basically the better gameplay out of them all and it isn’t wrong to ditch the other characters in favor of working on sonic’s gameplay more ,generations is a universally loved game and it only has two sonics who both play like sonic and the level design in that game are perfected,I doubt they’ve been that successful and perfected if they had other playable characters

Sonic Colors started: -Blocky Level Design -Slower Boost Speed -Too much 2D -Short length stages -Stiff camera movement -Lower Budget -Roger is mid for sonic -Crappy voice direction (Frontiers fixed it) -Reused level (too much green hill chemical zone) The only thing I hate, those still present in the current mainline game

it was a fair take that people are severely overreacting to. saying that the imagery of RE5 can evoke uncomfortable feelings of colonialism in Africa and that the whole story of the ouroboros infection could have been done with more empathy and less stereotypes is something i do agree with and it's not saying the devs or the game is inherently racist or had bad intentions. it's from japanese devs, japan is known to be quite behind the times on social justice issues and can be xenophobic and misogynistic. it's embedded into the culture as it is in many other places *glares at the United States* but things have been changing slowly just as they are all over the world it reflects in a lot of their games especially from the 2000s. this doesn't mean RE5 is a terrible game (far from it, actually) or that the devs are terrible people or anything, it's just how the game made some people feel from how it handled the subject matter, and the people who felt this way aren't all posh white people you can find all sorts of pieces and discussions about this going way far back to the first trailers of RE5. Colonialism is a reality that people still have to live with to this day it's not just in the past and our fictional works of art always reflect something of our real world, Capcom has become acutely aware of this now so I don't have doubts that RE5 remake will handle it's subject matter with more respect instead of playing into stereotypes and unintentionally having some really questionable imagery. it's ok to have uncomfortable imagery that's kinda a mainstay of RE games but when it's hordes of stereotypical Africans dressed witch doctors it becomes kinda a whole different kind of uncomfortable that's not quite the type of horror RE games are going for

Agreed. Its set in Africa so the infected are going to be from Africa. And sure the game could be more racially sensitive, all games could be, but the game didn't go out of its way to be racist. The only thing that could be seen as strange is the blonde lady in the black dress who gets infected and how she's the damsel, but that's still a stretch. The game's lore talks about how they found a parasite virus in Africa, so it's cool that they have an RE is in Africa. If they do have an RE game in Africa I hope that people just enjoy the game for being good.
