started back in 2016... I lead an FC but kinda losing hype for this title because the story was poor and they refuse to fix the housing situation lottery system seems to just refuse to let me get a house and it would be fine if they had more homes but there is constant shortage 200 people bidding on the one open plot and on top of that it takes a whole week for a house to be bid on and then another week for results before a new lotto period atop all of that they allow FCs to multi bid. During interviews Yoshi P is just so apathetic to the issues of the game; expecting mixed reception, shrugging off player questions.
I love FFXIV. The one MMO I played for 10+ years. Started in 1.0 and played all the way to the end of the initial patch of Endwalker. I took a break because I felt just...exhausted. It felt like after that bookend of Endwalker, I just didn't have the energy to keep playing. I purchased Dawntrail and was going to go ahead and start playing through the rest of Endwalker to catch up, but after getting Reaper and Pictomancer caught up...I just quit.

The Hog Rider card is unlocked from the Spell Valley (Arena 5). He is a quick building-targeting, melee troop with moderately high hitpoints and damage. He appears just like his Clash of Clans counterpart; a man with brown eyebrows, a beard, a mohawk, and a golden body piercing in his left ear who is riding a hog. A Hog Rider card costs 4 Elixir to deploy. Strategy When he is jumping over the river, he cannot be targeted by any ground attacking units. The Log and Earthquake will fail to damage a Hog Rider while he is jumping. Air troops can still attack him though, and the Inferno Tower and Inferno Dragon will continue to ramp up their damage. When countering Hog Riders, obviously use buildings. But be wary as it the offender would usually play around it with cards such as Earthquake. Air swarms such as Minion Horde can help due to the Hog's usual support tools not countering them. On the offender's side, a powerful move is to accompany him with an Earthquake, obilerating almost every building, and also grounded swarms. To a lesser extent, Lightning could also be used, retaining the same point of almost destroying every building while also crippling troops such as the Wizard or the Hunter. The Log could also be an effective first play as a cycle, but it only kills swarms and sometimes a non-center-placed Tombstone. The Hog Rider can be paired with the Lumberjack as both a swarm bait and damage combo. It is a very fast combo with an extremely high damage output potential, so the defender will likely try to counter it with a swarm. If this happens, the offender should use a spell like Arrows to render the defender poetically defenseless. If they manage to defeat the Lumberjack, the dropped Rage will make the Hog Rider even more dangerous than it normally is. A fast and deadly combination is the Hog Rider and Mini P.E.K.K.A. combo. Both units are fast but the Mini P.E.K.K.A. does much more damage and does not attack only buildings so the Mini P.E.K.K.A. can deal with troops like the Executioner and Musketeer. However, this combo can be defeated with swarms like Skeleton Army, which will defeat both of them since neither of them can deal area damage. They are also unable to target air troops, so the Minion Horde can stop this easily. A Hog Rider combined with a Goblin Barrel can be awkward for the opponent to defend against. Timing it so that the Hog Rider is tanking the tower shots for the Goblins is the most effective way to deal damage. A Barbarian Barrel can shut this down with minimal Tower damage for a positive Elixir trade, as long as the Goblin Barrel was placed directly on the Tower. Use another card to counter the Hog Rider if it is necessary. His fast move speed can boost forward mini tanks like an Ice Golem in a push. At the same time, he can also function as a tank for lower hitpoint troops such as Goblins as he still has a fair amount of health. However, the Hog Rider struggles with swarms, as they can damage him down and defeat him quickly while obstructing his path. Barbarians in particular can fully counter him without very strict timing on the defender's part, though they are vulnerable to spells. Swarm cards like Skeleton Army, Goblin Gang, and Minion Horde can also very easily counter him. Use this to your advantage by placing a bulky swarm dealer in front of the Hog Rider (eg. Ice Golem, Valkyrie) so that the Hog Rider can transport it to the tower faster and also get protection from swarms. Most cheap swarms complement the Hog Rider well, as they are nearly as fast as him and usually force more than one card out of the opponent's hand. The Hog Rider in conjunction with the Freeze can surprise the opponent and allow the Hog Rider to deal much more damage than anticipated, especially if the opponent's go-to counter is a swarm, or swarms are their only effective counter to him. Skeletons and Bats will immediately be defeated by the spell, while Spear Goblins, Goblins, and Minions will be at low enough health to be defeated by a follow up small spell. Against non-swarm troops, it can deal a lot of damage during the freeze time, but this can allow the opponent to set up a massive counterpush. For this reason, players should either only go for a Hog Rider + Freeze when they have other units backing it up from a counterattack, or if the match is about to end and they need to deal as much damage as possible. The exception to this is an Elixir Collector placed in front of the King's Tower. If a Hog Rider placed at the bridge, he can destroy the Collector for a positive Elixir trade, though the damage from both Princess Towers will usually mean he does not survive to deal any damage to them. However, if the opponent sends in defending troops, it can be an opportunity to gain spell damage value. It is obviously not a good idea to send in a Hog Rider simply to destroy a building, especially if it is the only building targeting unit available, as defeating Crown Towers becomes substantially more difficult. Spells or simply waiting out the lifetime of the building are more effective. When there are buildings placed in the middle to counter the Hog Rider, understanding the placement of the Hog Rider and the type of building placed can help the Hog Rider to bypass certain buildings. Passive buildings such as spawners have a larger hitbox than defensive buildings; which means that if a passive building was placed 3 tiles away from the river in the middle of the opponent's side, then it is impossible for the Hog Rider to bypass that placement as the Hog Rider will get pulled to that building. The Hog Rider can kite Very Fast non-building targeting troops due to his own Very Fast speed and building only targeting if he is placed on the fourth tile from the bridge, slightly into the opposite lane. He can also stall grounded units when placed right at the bridge. He will pull them towards him while deploying, and then be untargetable by them when he jumps over the bridge. After landing, he will pull them back. This can be useful when the player needs to deal damage in the same lane they are defending. It will also help separate troops behind a tank in a large push. A very powerful combo is the Hog Rider, the Musketeer, and the Valkyrie, typically referred to as the Trifecta. The Musketeer will defend against most troops, while the Valkyrie can protect her and the Hog Rider from swarms or high damage units. The Hog Rider is used to deal damage to the tower. However, this is for a whopping 12 Elixir. This can be effectively countered by Lightning, one-shotting the Musketeer and severely damaging both the Valkyrie and Hog Rider. The Minion Horde is also effective, but the enemy can Zap them and the Musketeer will one-shot them all. Even if the Musketeer is defeated, the Hog Rider and Valkyrie will have enough time to severely damage the Tower. P.E.K.K.A. can hard counter this strategy allowing relatively low damage and being able to start a counterpush for a 5 elixir advantage. The Hog Rider should be placed behind the Valkyrie to give it a boost so that it stays in front of the Hog Rider, protecting it. Pairing the Hog Rider with the Balloon can deal devastating damage. If executed properly, the Hog Rider will act as a tank while the Balloon threatens to deal massive damage. The Hog Rider can also destroy any buildings attempting to slow down the combo. However, this combo is very vulnerable to swarms and anti-air cards as neither of the troops target anything but buildings. Additionally, they are easy to separate, due to the disparity in move speeds. Alternatively, the Hog Rider and the Balloon can be played in different lanes to spread the opponent's defenses thin. However, a building or Tornado can bring them back together for an easier defense. A solid play is to deploy the Hog Rider at the bridge as soon as the match starts or when you reach 10 elixir which is safer. If the opponent does not react fast enough or has a bad starting hand, the Hog Rider will deal a significant amount of damage to the Princess Tower. This can also allow the player to quickly scout the opponent's deck if they happen to react to him fast enough. A Hunter can kill the Hog Rider in 2 hits if placed right on top of it. However, if the opponent places something in front of the Hog Rider, the Hunter's splash will transfer overkill damage to said card

As someone who has been playing FFXIV for 4 years and still thinks it's the most fun game out right now, even I wouldn't tell you to just wait until 8.0. Not just because you've already waited so long, but because the comment they made about 8.0 was incredibly vague and even if they change a lot it could still amount to being the same thing just a different way. Glad you're able to and are doing what feels right for you, stal!
I started end of HW, retired BRD main, moved onto other Jobs. I'm also unhappy with how the Phys Range Role has been going down the drain for the past three expacs and I'm in the same boat you're in. I want the Job to be better, but it feels like SE doesn't care, and if they do care, they just keep pushing everything back. AST and DRG were supposed to get reworks going into Dawntrail but they half-assed it and are pushing stuff back until 8.0. I don't want to wait two, maybe even three years for SE to make BRD fun again, and the way Jobs have changed even this expac means I don't have faith in them to deliver it. You pointed out stuff like Flamethrower on MCH or the Nastrond changes on DRG and you're right, the changes suck, they don't fix the problems with the Job or make it feel worse, and we're told to suck it up until next expac. I just want my Job to feel fun again, to be engaged when I do content, but I just can't see XIV being the game ever again with the changes that have been happening since ShB. I hope variety content works out for you, Stal. Hopefully I can catch your streams sometime, I had a lot of fun watching your prog way back in DSR, and it helped me a lot when I was progging the fight on BRD. Best of luck!

the way i put it is that sqex loves planting flowers but hates watering them. there's always new stuff but it often doesn't feel properly interconnected, and they're happy to do the bare minimum to upkeep a lot of things. i started in stormblood. i ran with scholar and dark knight. i had the time of my life. today both jobs feel completely unrecognizable and not in a good way! and i try to be positive! there's still elements of those jobs I enjoy! i can talk at length about all the things i like about 7.0 jobs because there's genuinely a lot of things i do like about these jobs! but something about the players that drives me mad is how dishonest they can be with this relentless positivity they want you to have. if you don't like a job change or fight design or rewards or fight structure or dislike how healers feel or get frustrated that a pct outdamages any phys ranged despite having worse uptime and gear, etc etc they claim you're "out of touch" with casuals or something and nothing you say can change their mind. no matter how many hours you have on PF, no matter how much you do rouls with players who can't do rotations, no matter how much you play with your friends who don't raid- if you aren't smiling and agreeing you're always "out of touch". it makes talking about the game real frustrating sometimes.
I left the game too. I can see myself coming back maybe when the exploration zone is released but overall, I'm not interested anymore. Endgame is lacking a lot for what the subscription costs. I love the game but it is lacking something.

While I haven't yet reached the unsub part, I so feel the sentiment of "the more you pull away the longer you stay away." Since a few weeks into the Savage tier I've basically raid logged unless someone's asked if I wanted to do anything. I started playing BG3 since I never finished it and I'm more excited to play it all over again than much of anything in XIV right now. It's such a strange feeling too because I don't hate XIV, and I do have fun with it when I play. At the same time, there's just a sense of indifference? If I don't play, I don't miss it whatsoever but if I do, I'm still enjoying myself somewhat. I want to say I've just been playing for a long time (10 years almost) but it really feels likes the direction they're going just isn't for me. And I don't have much faith 8.0 will see some massive overhaul. Suffice it to say, I'm approaching that same feeling Stal. Even if I don't my role (tank) lmao
I'm similar right now. I'm gonna play again but just don't really want to right now. With what they've done to BLM I really just don't care anymore. I'm also rather dissapointed with Picto, it's just not that fun if you ask me. I might play again during 7.x but it could very well be that I'll wait for 8.0.
Lol, the bard/phys ranged rant is so me right now with dragoon changes no one asked for (give me back my Nast stacks SE!). Someone will be like be like 'what's the big deal, caster main btw' and I'm like Bro, I've been main-ing DRG for ages watching them slowly guts what makes the job fun. I wanna press my buttons and I'm going to have some feelings when I think they make changes that are bad for the job as a whole.

Found you during the TEA era, when I was a (sort of) sprout finding footing. You influenced me into the phys range role when I was deciding on what to settle on as I entered the raid scene. I'm in the same boat, sub ended this weekend, I'll be back for chaotic since I got a group, then off again, then on again for exploration, then off again and I'll just be like that going forward until the boat either sinks or it steers clear of the iceberg or it crashes but becomes a cool ghost ship instead and my analogy is kinda breaking now but taking a break is good! Been enjoying your Xenoblade streams, so I'm excited to see what else you'll be playing!
I think I'm personally coming up on my one year mark of being unsubbed. I get what you're talking about here. My first "unsub" lasted a week or two before I came back, then my second lasted about 2 months, then I came back for EW, which I played the story and such.. Then I unsubbed again and just missed like 8 whole months. Then I came back for DT, beat the story, stayed for a bit, and unsubbed yet again. I haven't subbed again since the launch of DT. I love and I mean LOVE this game, and the people, and the story, and the time that I've had in the game. I've been playing since HW. Something is keeping me from enjoying the game when I get into it, like I used to. Maybe it's because I don't have full expansions worth of content to catch up on, or maybe it's because I no longer do extreme content anymore, I haven't raided seriously since EW. Yoshi P needs to take some notes from Valve I think. Just look at valves "unreleased" game called "Deadlock" it's a moba/hero shooter combination. It gets updates like every 5 minutes (sometimes literally). They updated the game yet again as I'm typing this. I hope the best for you in the future. I hope you're able to find your niche.
That line about waiting 3 expansions for a job to get better hits me as a healer main. Quit the game because of the same reason

I guess most of player got disappointed about the expansion. As a SCH main, I'm really suffering from the fairy skill lock in Dawntrail, and I have no idea how can it be
Your bard rant is exactly why I ended up dropping my old main (RDM). I played RDM since it came out in Stormblood and every goddamn expansion SE just gave us yet another melee finisher. For a job that's supposed to be a "jack of all trades", the lack of versatility kills the fantasy really fast. I kept hoping we'd get something more interesting to iterate on and Magick Barrier gave me hope that we'd get something interesting again in DT, but nope, more melee finishers and 2 minute burst buttons! The fight design has also evolved to kill the caster fantasy. Why make fights revolve around making specific caster mechanics to give them uptime in a more engaging way (like taking advantage of their range, which is something I'd like for the Ranged Physicals too) when you can just slap more instant casts and ignore EVERYTHING that makes the role even remotely interesting to make the bosses constantly force you to move? At this point we're not casters anymore, just glorified HW-era physical ranged. I should've seen the writing on the wall with the SMN rework, but I still loved RDM too much to see it. But enough is enough. I'm a DRK main now, just like back in Heavensward and I'm enjoying the game a lot more.

I played the game since release and played everyday till stormblood had everything maxed out all jobs gathering crafting everything even platinum trophy on ps5 and it’s had the same stuff since back then to much of the same stuff I have not played since to much pointless shit

Bro I have been very vocal about Machinist since the beginning of Shadowbringers. How long ago was that now? 6 years? I'm supposed to stay quiet and be patient? For how long? Nah i've had enough man. And then they give us a Flamethrower buff because clearly that is the problem with Machinist

hey i agree with your feelings on phys ranged i feel like they are doing the same with caster as they add more and more movement options for the casters they are removing what makes caster fun . I left for almost the entire endwalker expansion because i felt they ruined the fun and complexity of RDM ive recently came back and noticed they have only just kept making the caster situation worse IMO. I hope you find enjoyment there are a lot of excellent games out there

The 7.1 (and 7.05) job changes don't really inspire confidence that the supposed 8.0 job changes will be of any quality. Especially when Yoshi P mentioned that they would not simplify the jobs anymore during this expansion (which they then did in those 2 patches). I really want the game to be the best it can but it's just insane that after the Endwalker and its job discussion they then told us to wait another 3 years before doing any substantial changes to bring back job identity.
I have always had something to do in FF14 and it's been a game I play between over a dozen other activities and games so it's been fairly evergreen to me I can complain pretty much endlessly about FFXIV, which I think is because I like the game a lot and wish the flaws weren't so fundamental or ignored; it's riddled with both objective issues and personal gripes
As you said, phys range issue. No job design, boring to play, feels impactless (oh hello Summoner, worst rework ever). I switched from Bard to SAM at Stormblood, they removed Kaiten, I switched to healer. Here, I play Viper, and it again feels wrong. I love XIV, I play it a lot and find different type of content to entertain me, but the gameplay starts to feel so wrong. I have high hopes for 8.0, but as you are, I don't want to be too hopeful. Enjoy variety content and come back to XIV content streaming when you enjoy it more. Even if it's a risk to change content as a content creator, your health first.
This can not be stressed enough, the jobs are the main vehicle for interacting with the game, and making them fun to play and making people happy with their mains is the most encompassing way to make as much content in the game as possible **enjoyable.** Also "just play another job" is ridiculous... We're playing an rpg, if the job/class fantasy that attracted you to it at the onset is no longer enjoyable for you that's a big, **big** problem to have. I can bring myself to enjoy DRK still in spite of myself, particularly in current content, but more and more lower level content, or grindier content is getting less enjoyable on my main job, and on others that I can tell are languishing with bad job action level scaling.

Hey... We completely understand... I take pauses from the game, both planned and unplanned - Then I just do stuff that relaxes me in it when I come back. I think doing it like this is a much healthier approach to MMO's ----- You also seem to follow the patterns of many other FFXIV content creators, and diversifying. So I guess we're all following Yoshi-P's advice, no? 😉
It's crazy how they refuse for this long to see the issue in phys. ranged being simply a +1% role. They need more personal damage or reasons to exist like big fights requiring multiple interrupts or distant baits. Machinist is in an even more baffling state of having to suffer ranged tax and phys. ranged tax despite being a selfish dps without party dmg buffs.
Started watching your videos and stream because you are one of the most hardcore raider that is from SEA, thank you for all these years of xiv content. I myself have been feeling the same with xiv, no longer raid, just playing it very casually nowadays.
In all these years of playing this game, I had a job, then opened my own store, failed and got ill for 1 years, then found another job until now making baby steps in my career…still playing ff14 and other genres of games when they are good
I also unsubbed back in September and currently enjoying all the JRPGs on my backlog, currently working on the Trails (now on Erebonia arc) with Atelier on the side for palate cleansing.
