Welcome to OregonFishingLife with Nick & Brandon! We both grew up fishing, clamming, and crabbing on the Oregon coast as kids. We try and get on the ocean as much as possible fishing from our kayaks. As we get more comfortable with the video part of things we will be putting out some how to videos and showing more of our set ups that help us when we are out on the water. Be sure to subscribe to the channel so you dont miss any of the adventures!

Ocean fishing on Hobie kayaks out of sunset bay Oregon
Awesomeness!!
Rough day when a 15min video is the same retrievals filmed from 2 different boats 😂
@@thisisntgood71 good eyes
Typical off the dock lots of female dungeness crab, you have to get out in deep water to get the big males.
What kayak
Hobie outback.
Opening scene looks like sunset Beach out Cape arago. Used to fish just off of Simpsons Reef just a little downhill from sunset Beach when I lived in Coos Bay and had a boat. Lots of yelloweye and lings there. Tons of Black Rocks. Landed a 75 lb halibut out from the glass house in about 70 ft of water once. That was a treat! There was an area about halfway to Bandon in 200 or 210 ft of water. Color machine showed about 60 ft of fish that stretched a quarter mile. Can't remember the numbers but I think it was down towards the 600 line. I used to fish for bottom fish commercially there. Nothing black or green just huge Canary rocks, yelloweye, ling and some of the funner red orange stuff like China Rock, tiger rock, quilbacks, etc. Caught a fairly large Boccaccio there. There was one time that I thought I had hooked into a halibut because of the head shakes. All of a sudden it came flying out of the water about 50 ft port side of the boat and kept on flying and pulling drag until it got about 50 ft in the air. I had a severe flashback! It was some sort of bird that fed by diving after bait. What a rush it was. That was back in the early nineties before my 22-year marriage ended and the world as I knew it, ended. I haven't been able to afford a boat since. I guess that's what they call WHITE MALE PRIVILEGE. 🫤
Did the same thing this morning. Always a good time.
I have the same kayak. Super heavy and hard to move. But it's nice to fish.
It sure is!
That means the ocean is healthy when you pull a live starfish out. Think of a starfish as the canary of the coal mine.
We catch a lot of starfish. Just usually don't include them in the video. Thanks for watching!
What model kayak do you use or recommend for going offshore? I’m interested in trying kayak fishing on the WA coast and Puget sound.
@@jimbo97330 hobie outback is a good one, oldtown also has a few good yaks. I would definately go with a pedal drive if you can afford it and stick with 12ft or longer. I do not recomend brooklyn kayaks or similar, seat is way too far back and its not stable in rough water. There are a bunch of companies that brand that kayak but they are all the same yak made in china
@@OregonFishingLife Appreciate your insight!
I saw you guys out there. Glad you were successful
It was a good day of fishing. Were you on a kayak?
Mother catches ling
I launch out of sunset! Glad to see more anglers on yaks!
Awesome, hope to see you out there!
Nice job😊🎉❤
Thanks 😄
It was sad to see you killed the octopus, they are very smart creatures.
Also, very tasty if that helps ease your sadness.........
Great videos where are you fishing
We fish out of Charleston Oregon. Launch out of Sunset Bay, just on the outside of Charleston.
Hard to watch someone that has No clue!
I can see how you would think that. Caught a lot of fish that day. If you need reference, the video titled "13 lingcod & 50ish rockfish caught on kayaks" on this channel was filmed the same day. Thanks for watching!
Can you please explain the sand shrimp gun functions , how does it get the gaper clam out? Thanks , I am learning
The Sand shrimp gun fluffs up the mud and sand with the water into a thick soup consistency and you reach down into the hole following your marker (anything like a stick or arrow that you stick down the siphon hole to save it's location) to pull up the gaper. I hope this answerers your question. Thanks.
@@OregonFishingLife thank you I appreciate your response, keep on fishing , I enjoy your videos
Pretty good catch 👍
Thanks!
Sick video man keep it up!
Thank you for watching!
I’m new to fishing and never seen some lip grippers😭😭😂
They are incredibly handy when dealing with very toothy fish!
Just moved out to Coos Bay, i need some honey holes!!
Coos Bay in general is full of honey holes from surf fishing to fishing in a boat or kayak. It's just getting out, and having fun.
Blue neck-"gaper" big clams but mostly all neck and a mess to clean compared to the much better qouhog imo, but great-job...!!!
God dang bro your rod tip was in the water
Occasionally you get the tough fish!
nice catch
Thank you very much!
Less reeling. More fish.
Do you guys encounter sharks? Newporter here.
We have not yet encountered sharks. We have encountered whales, dolphins and of course sea lions.
Must be nice. I was always shore bound
great find
What brand kayak is that?
Hobie PA12
Gonna half to charge you for this video
Congrats on a great day of fishing. Did you launch out at sunset bay? Also where do you get all your forecast info. Thanks!!
Yes, we launch out of sunset. We get our forecast from mostly National weather service marine forecast, and a weather app called windy.
That is awesome! Tight lines!
Yes it was!
Where were you in Oregon
Charleston, Oregon.
Triples baby, gotta love that !!!
Always exciting!
Wow
I commercial fish and I used bacon grease one time. It tainted the trap for the rest of the season. I do not recommend. raw bacon looks better.
And to think, only 3 Summers of videotaping for that shot! 😂
I did that once
Nice bro have a good day keep up the good work
Thanks, you too!
Cool
Thanks!
what's your set up?
Nick is on a Hobie outback, and Brandon has a Hobie Pro angler. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching!
