Yamaha Vstar 1100 Rigid Bobber

Progress so far on my Yamaha Vstar, welded on the rear fender a couple days ago so I thought I would make an update video.
2003 Hardtail Vstar 1100 (First ever?) pt.1
Переглядів 2,2 тис.3 роки тому
*PLEASE READ FIRST * I have always wanted to do this so I finally grew a pair and got it done lol. So all the cutting is pretty standard, I cut off the tube at the front just after it bends about 4 inches so that I can fit a tube in there and get a nice plug weld, after that I cut in the back just before the hole where the (driveshaft?) connects to, everything I cut in between here was just to ...

I have always been inspired by old documentaries and videos, they were the main reason that made me want to get a bike and make it like this. This video is made as an ode to the past. If yall like videos like this then let me know and I can post more.

MaxAir Predator Pro kit for Yamaha Vstar 1100
Переглядів 26 тис.3 роки тому
Unboxing and first impressions of the max air kit for the vstar 1100 Seat is from bobbercycle.com Leather fart @2:21
Where did you get your rear fender?
Twisted choppers
What kind of metal pipes did you use?
The stock frame is 1.25" OD and 1" ID. I'm currently doing a hardtail on my vstar 1100 as well
It’s DOM steel I had bent at a pipe factory, I forget the wall thickness but it was definitely thick
Great job buddy!!! I bet the mounting plate also strengthens the frame a bit right at the bend & cross member hump area.
Yes I’m sure it does! I’m thinking about upgrading this in the future as I’m looking for longer shocks
what kind of helmet was that?
Biltwell gringo I believe
Man, Joe, this video is right on time. Just had rear right shock mount rust through on my 3rd Gen. Typical, but I can't stomach the idea of patching it back and just repeating a bad design. Your video inspired me to just do it the right way and outboard the damn things like they should've been originally. Looking forward to more build episodes. Keep it up brother.
Thanks for the comment man i really appreciate it
@@joebaker5586 You earned it. Most straight forward video on the subject I've found on the Tube. I picked up welding several months ago & I think I'm ready to tackle something like this. I also have a 2000 sr5, but what I don't have is the cash for some of the fancier outboarding kits out there plus I like the idea of fabricating my own solution.., or rather, just stealing your solution & fabricating that:) That Lincoln you used, is that a MIG or flux-cored welder? You ever think about maybe doing a 'walk-around' video of your rig? Thanks for all your time and energy making the vid Joe. You definitely helped me out on this one. Heading down to the shop right now to start this project.
I don't get why anyone would do this. I love my V star soft tail.
Wasn’t there a time when you were young and experimental?
@@joebaker5586 Sure, and I'm still young and I still experiment, but I'm not going to put square wheels on my bike. This is just erasing technology.
@@LeeHill66 well what’s cool for some isn’t cool for others I suppose, all the old Harley’s were hard tails and those were cool
I built my own, total cost 70$.
This will probably be the same but I liked being able to have some nice made parts from a company with good customer support in case I had any tuning questions
Ermmmmm
Awesome video! Did you use the same shocks for the outboard mount?
no i ended up using 5th gen sr5 shocks because they have more travel but the valving feels off so I might go to 3rd gen extended length shocks
gonna have pull the carburetors in order to put in your larger jets
if you haven't done it already, you should delete or disable your fuel cut of solenoids. max air makes a product for that or if you don't want to spend the 75 bucks you can modify the existing solenoids by cutting of the pin that shuts of the fuel when the engine gets close to red line.
Looks alot like the woodlands, tx.....
yessir
What pipes you got on it
Do you have the part number of those extended screws an did they ever cause issues falling out or backing out
They came with the kit from max air I’m sure you could find it on their website and no but I’m sure if you backed it out too far then maybe but you could put some loctite on there to prevent it.
Show the tune'n
Why does it sound like only one cylinder works?
would've been easier to just take off the rear shock an bolt a rod there. but idk im gonna be getting a 2000 vstar 1100 tomorrow. looks great man
What bars are those and where did you get them
Hello, everything is fine. But I want to know all the measurements. How many centimeters did you cut from the back of the piece where the axle is? What welding did you use on that piece that you joined to the tube? That piece where the axle is is made of steel carbon or what is it?
Not the first one ever. Plenty of em done
Nice job man. Uptown customs did the 650s. Dude acted like how he made it rigid was top secret. Did you narrow the frame to meet the rear swing arm? Or dud you widen the swing arm and added spacers on the Axle? Looks clean bro.
DOM steel cut and bent to perfectly meet with swing arm and then mig welded, the only hard thing was figuring out a shop that can bend dom and also getting good measurements
Whats the air filter part number
Hello would you know if it fits a BT 1100 yamaha, same engine? thx JL
I would ask maxair, they are pretty good at responding to emails
Any chance you can do a video on how cleaned up the handle bars, relocated the start button and choke level?
I took off the horn controls and high beam switches completed which I have a video on the headlight switch, the starter you just pull apart the wires and buy a switch to attach to, the choke does not have a cable and is done by hand from on top of the carb, i sold the bike or else I would make a video of it!
What throttle cables are you running? I have pretty much the exact bike
Where did you get the forward controls. I'm having trouble finding any.
They have discontinued these I believe, I ended up fabricating my own mid controls anyway cause these were too far forward for me
damn, engine breather for K&N like a tube from ass to nose. Could you tell me jet's sizes from this set?)
What size DOM did you use?
Nice looking bike. Is your exhaust "chirping" when you let off the throttle? Only asking because it sounds a bit like it and my v star does the same thing.
Lol yeah it does I read that it does this because of ais removal
Im looking forward to pt 2
Ive been enjoying my 1100 but for now, i wont be doing much ait intake as i think im running too much air right now. I havent measured it yet but ill let you know... maybe. If i remember.
If you're running too much air then that would be a surprise, the stock vstar air box is very restrictive
Haven’t watched it yet but yes!
Hey brother, where did you get the solo seat set up? It looks great! I'd like to get 1 for my 01 Vstar1100...
bobbercycle
Hey were did you get that bobber seat from man
bobbercycle
Never heard the motor in either video.. bummer..
You are right, it really looks cool. So, I also have a V-star 1100. How can I get this kit for mine?
Just do a google search
Nice bike!! I have a 01 vstar 1100, i want to put ape hangers on it where can i get the cables for it? Thanks!!
I've got a 02 1100. I will have this kits by March! Thanks.
Shawn Kelley Thoughts from the barn you’ll love it man!
Great video. Love the bars! Hey we provide tech support. Not sure what this “gurgling” is but it is likely some resonance/harmonics thing that can be worked out. Get on our tech support forum and we’ll get it worked out......
Hi Maxair here. I am confused. The carbs should have come completely off for this job. Did you ever install our jet kit and needles? Without our jet kit it won’t run correctly. Nice looking bike man!
MaxairEngineering yes I installed them I just didn’t record it.
@@joebaker5586 Sweet ! Great work!
@@MaxairEngineering are u guys still selling this kit?
@@mattblyther5426 We sure are : www.maxairengineering.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ME&Product_Code=MK-YVS1-P&Category_Code=VSTAR1100
@@mattblyther5426 they still sell it. I just got mine this month. June 2023. Huge improvement on the asthmatic 1100!
Love this kit, Not sure about the gurgle, might be your bike.....what pipes are you running?? mine doesn't that sound...did you remove AIS
Michael DeMeo did AIS reroute and have cobra pipes with baffles
@@joebaker5586 weird.... check your mixture screws didn't loosen?? I run the same cobra long pipe, bobbercycle seat pan??
Michael DeMeo I haven’t fully tuned them yet but I made them as close as possible with a handmade tool. Will need to buy a mercury setup in the future.
What exhaust setup I need it
