This simulation is very flawed and unrealistic. This battle was just a melee clash, with no tactics or diversity in soldiers. If we assume that the Roman army was the stereotypical style of the late republic and early principate, the army would have included auxiliaries and cavalry. Furthermore, the army would have utilized javelins. If we take in consideration these factors, the Romans would have easily won. Though the Spartans may have been stronger physically, Romans soldiers had better equipment and a tactical advantage over the Greek phalanx. Here's how the battle would have realistically turned out: The Romans start by throwing javelins at the Spartans, which would leave wholes in the Spartan phalanx (phalanxes are easily destroyed by projectiles). Furthermore, the auxiliaries would most likely include archers and slingers, which would also contribute to the destabilization of the Spartan formation. Then, the main Roman army would go into a massive shield formation to counter the Spartan spears. The army would slowly advance. While this happens, the Roman cavalry would flank the phalanx and harass the Spartans. The nimble Roman cavalry would perform hit and run attacks on the back of the phalanx and slowly wear it down. When the main Roman infantry reached the phalanx, they would easily mow through the Spartans, as their long spears were unsuited to close melee combat. It would be a total slaughter, and would be a decisive victory for the Romans.

Romans have about a millenium in technology on their side (depending on the period from which the Romans were taken). Sparta was relevant for 2 centuries and dominant for 3 decades. They just benefited a lot from existing in a time were history wasn't a science but the art of storytelling with a propagandist twist to it. This answers the question "Where does UEBS get the stats for their units from?" with "From their arses."

Unfortunately, this simulation program is flawed on multiple levels. This battle was an absolute melee with no tactics whatsoever. The Spartans would have used the phalanx and the Romans would have used the Maniple. Both armies would have also primarily used spears. The Romans would have employed other kinds of units as well, such as Triarii and Calvary. If we would design a simulation with these factors in mind, it would be awesome.

The problem with this particular simulation, which was definitely awesome. The primary weapon of the Roman army was not the short sword. The primary weapon of the Roman army was the spear. They had their own version of the spear. I believe may have been deadlier than a spartan version. So spirits versus swords are going to lose. So in my opinion, assimilation is flawed along that level. Also, I believe the Romans had a lot of different types of units and were more mobile. The Spartans created this form of fighting. But the Romans took it and progressed upon it. So I think Id have to go with the Romans superior strategies.

The Roman armies primary weapon was the Gladius and spatha they also used the pilum The legions of time did not have spears after the Marian reforms every man carried the Gladius and the only spear men would be auxiliary’s
