Greetings to you and your wife 🌈 Just 2 quick pointers before you continue your Jamaican cooking journey Ackee from the tin is safe to eat ( if you can find it. Its pretty hard to find if your not living near a big city with supermarkets of various cultures) Also. The ingredient your reading as Coco means Coconut which is "a must" ingredient in Red Peas Soup.. You can get a tin of coconut from most supermarkets.. Hope this helps 🙏 Enjoy

Thanks so much for the helpful information! I did find recipes online after I made the video that called for canned Ackee fruit, but I have not found it around here. We do have a couple of African grocery stores (a number of African immigrants and refugees in this area, but not so much Jamaican), but I didn't find it in the one near me. Wow! It didn't occur to me that "cocoa" in the recipe could really mean coconut. The ingredient guide in the front of this cookbook listed "coco" as "a small tuber that is a must in boiled beef soup", so I assumed that is what it must have been referring to. They list coconut separately. I'm not too excited about the cookbook overall--in the history section it for example glosses over slavery and just says, "Celebrations were a frequent part of the planters' lifestyle, and many feasts were held, at which owners and slaves showed their best." I also found out that over 600,000 slaves were brought to Jamaica from Africa, especially for the sugar plantations, whereas the information I have seen says only 400,000 were brought to the whole US over time! Obviously there were many more slaves in the US overall after multiple generations born here. Let me know if you have a cookbook or recipe blog site to recommend for Jamaican cooking!

Make the point to always listen and obey your mother; stop rebellious behaviour against your mother. Also literally showing you the reason your mother wanted you to stay home. After that incident, did you always listen to your mother ever since, until you moved out? Curious.

Weirdness from San Antonio TX- There is an old bar on the West Side of San Antonio. Some say it's Crespo's Bar and Grill, some say its a biker bar called Jake's. There's this old vintage Wurlitzer Juke box, playing a tejano dance tune. So one night, out of a heavy rain, a man walks in and puts money in the Juke box. He commences to dance, really DANCE.He whirls and twirls and leaps to the fascination of all there. Finally somebody realizes he is not only wearing a mask, he has huge chicken feet. He dances out the door, never to be seen again.

Many decades ago, I worked in a JCPenney Coffee Shop. I was there for several years, mostly as a waitress or supervisor, but pitching in in the kitchen when necessary. There were a lot of good dishes made from scratch, in addition to the food that was frozen. One time I noticed that the recipes for some homemade soups were being thrown away, including my favorite potato corn chowder. You can bet that I grabbed those 3-4 recipes and kept them. Wonderful with their hot rolls or handmade biscuits. I am still looking for the rum sauce recipe; the sauce was served on top of the hot apple pie. Sooo good.

For all I care your name can be fake, I don't give a shit. All I care - or don't - is what you say, not who you are. And Joe Hill wouldn't be a bestseller author, hell it's very likely he couldn't have published a single novel weren't his Dad the great Stephen King. He may be talented, but his whole career exists because of his family name and his famous father. And he hasn't written ONE novel that comes even close to being as good as Stephen's novels. By the current age of Joe Hill Stephen King wrote classic masterpieces like The Stand, IT, The Shining, Misery, Carrie, Different Seasons, Pet Sematary, The Dead Zone, etc. What has Joe written? A few good and so-so novels. It's ZERO accomplishment next to his father's. If he hadn't written any books, no one would notice. If he will be remembered at all, it will be because he is the son of legendary author Stephen King.
